DATE: For Immediate Publication

LOCATION: GalNet, or Hart Station (Bast) and Brunel City (Heike).

TITLE: The Buckyball Racing Club salutes the Heroes of Bast

DESCRIPTION: On 30th June 3301 Newton Dock in the BD-02 4304 system was quarantined due to the outbreak of a plague of unknown origin. The Cerberus Plague eventually spread to over 20 systems and claimed 100,000 lives.

Thanks to a massive effort by a group of independent pilots, a cure synthesised from Ceremonial Heike Tea was discovered and used to treat plague victims at Hart Station in the Bast System. This cure was then mass produced and shipped to other infected systems.

On 10th August 3301 the last infected systems were declared to be free of the Cerberus Plague.

In tribute to the heroic efforts of those glorious BAST-erds and Ceremonial Tea Baggers one year ago, the Buckyball Racing Club is hosting a racing event at Hart Station involving a scramble around nearby medicine production facilities and a speed run to Brunel City, Heike.

Freelance Report: Small Worlds Expedition Announced for September 3302

The newly-formed Small Worlds Pilots Association has announced their inaugural event, the Small Worlds Expedition, at a press conference today.

“Our primary goal is to equip novice pilots with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to be successful explorers,” says CMDR LaneAtomic, press secretary of the new organization. He went on to state that the event is open to both novice and veteran pilots, and the Association hopes to provide both with an interesting alternative to traditional big-ship exploration.

The expedition is scheduled to launch on 17 September, 3302, and participants can expect to be away for approximately three weeks.

Can you answer why you disapprove this article?

As noted in the guidelines at the top of this thread, we typically only give feedback if there are small, objective issues with a submission (e.g. mentioning a particular character or organisation that we intend to use in our own story, or neglecting to include a location for publication). Given the finite amount of time at our disposal, it isn’t possible for us to enter into a discussion about more complex or subjective issues.

TITLE: The Pleiades Powder Keg

DESCRIPTION:
With the deployment of Imperial warships to Pleione, and the establishment of multiple Federation military outposts in a corridor between inhabited space and what indie pilots now refer to as the “Pleiades Powder Keg,” people of varying allegiances are preparing for an ignition spark in their own way.

Captain Alexis Corvus issued a warning in a statement to the Imperial Herald, “While the Pilots Federation has lent us great aid in previous isolated incidents, their loyalty and efforts are directly proportional to their paycheck. They owe us no fealty. If diplomacy fails, the Empire must be prepared to stand alone if it is not the highest bidder for the loyalty of these profiteers.”

One respected commander in the Pilots Federation publicly and unabashedly expressed his views on the situation, “Anything that pushes the galaxy towards war, and therefore a bit more excitement, is a good thing in my eyes.”

This “spoiler” contains actual spoilers for the Knights of the Old Republic video game, released in 2003. If you intend to go back and play through that game, I do suggest not opening this spoiler.

Title: Federal Naval Officer Criticizes Ship Design

Not everyone in the Federation Navy is happy with the Designs produced by Federation Navy favorite Core Dynamics. Post Captain Adhock is one of the more vocal critics of the Core Dynamics design. Especially that of the Corvette saying that "While it exceeds expectations of combat prowess" that the Corvette "falls heavily short of mobility and jump endurance benchmarks".

"If I wanted to take command of a stationary gun platform, I'd request posting to a Starport. Not command an Escort Class vessel that fails at the very job of 'Escort' because it's lagging behind it's Battlegroup a hundred light-years desperately looking for a place to refuel while the group it's supporting finds itself undermanned because half it's ships are missing."

"We are in an age of expansion. Everyone is looking to push their boundaries beyond what used to be. That means a Navy needs to be prepared to meet the increased mobility requirements that come with such. Core Dynamics is currently not meeting those requirements. The Federal Navy should be looking elsewhere for a manufacturer that can."

"If [the Federal Corvette] is the benchmark of what constitutes as 'Long Range Patrol', someone in their design department needs to have a talk with Universal Cartographics about how big Civilized space really is."

Post Captain Adhock is due to take command of one of these Long Range Patrols to the edge of Federation Space which may lend some credit to his criticism. Core Dynamics has yet to be reached for Comment.

Title: Plea to Palin

With Unknown artefacts and Barnacles currently being found in greater numbers and featured in many a newsfeed, galactic unease is beginning to spread.

Most of the public are aware of the alien technologies, yet apart from where they are found and other minor details, information is scarce.

These objects have undiscovered origins, yet experts in the field - such as Professor Ishmael Palin - are able to research the objects with no regulations, perhaps performing experiments that could be putting us all at risk.

Palin and his team are dedicated to the study of anything alien, with specific interest in Thargoid related items. They claim to be focused on developing new defensive tech, but are not divulging any details on their progress.

This is a plea for Palin to openly discuss his research and findings with the galactic community, before things escalate. People are worried, do not suppress any information that may put minds at ease.

Commander BluWolve

Note: I was not sure how best to go about writing this submission to do with Professor Palin so any tips would be appreciated. I tried to follow the guidelines and most all the information came from the in-game bio, screenshot below -

Would it be a better idea to run a story idea through with you and getting shot down beforehand with a yes/no before we write them?

Not that I didn't enjoy writing the last few pieces but it may increase our success rate at getting published if we only write the good stories/ideas that would be publishible.

Of course with the added reminder that just because it was said to be a good idea before writing it, doesn't mean it'll be published when it's written.

Plea to Palin

You’ll notice that the last sentence of Palin’s bio says that his research base is “focused on the development of new defence technologies”. He isn’t really looking at non-human ‘technology’ anymore. I realise that might not have been completely clear given that the bio devotes more space to talking about Unknown Artefacts. Sorry about that.

In principle this is fine, but it would be with the caveat that ‘approval’ of a concept wouldn’t constitute approval of the final piece, as you say.

Additionally, concepts would be subject to the same criteria as final submissions, i.e. we wouldn’t be able to enter into a discussion about the merits of specific concepts, given the finite amount of time at our disposal.

I think I can live with that. : ]

Edit: Thanks Ian!

If it can't get published in the universal Galnet, we'd like it to be published in Eravate, LHS 3447, Lave, and Agarla.

Your submission has been published in Eravate, LHS 3447, Lave and Agarla.

Since we usually add the Commander's name to the bottom of the submission, you might want to avoid including your Commander as a source within the submission itself.

It's a minor point (and it doesn't usually influence whether or not a submission is chosen for publication), but to have a Commander appear in a story that has been reported by that same Commander represents a slight immersion break. Just something to keep in mind.

This is a plea for Palin to openly discuss his research and findings with the galactic community, before there is retaliation. People are worried, do not suppress any information that may put minds at ease.
