<snip>... the Corvette "falls heavily short of mobility and jump endurance benchmarks". <snip>
Nice article, it's a long time since we had a "ship review" in the news. I don't have a Corvette so have no direct experience, but I did see one at Beagle Point practicing formation flying...

Hi Ian,

After reading again my submission, I guessed the title was not totaly appropriated for a publication.
So, I resubmit it with a new title.

Title: Federation Task Force departs for ‘Heart and Soul’
Location: Galnet / Alternatively Sol, Okinura, Altair, HR 6421
Date: Anytime (but ‘soon’ would be nice)

The Earth Expeditionary Fleet has announced plans to dispatch a task force to a region of space near the Heart and Soul nebulae. EEF is the exploratory arm of the Earth Defense Fleet, a public interest non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving the security of Earth and the Federation. A company spokesperson released the following statement regarding this latest expedition:

"Rumors have begun circling regarding a large number of independent Commanders departing for the EAFOTS sector. Their departure and progress toward EAFOTS was very sudden, almost as if responding to a signal. Federation Commanders are encouraged to join EEF in peacefully monitoring this situation and hunting for possible resources in the sector that might be exploited for the Federation's benefit."

The Earth Expeditionary Fleet has announced a staggered departure schedule allowing Federation affiliated Commanders to join the expedition at their own leisure.

Title: War of the Century
Location: Galnet
Date: ASAP

The Federation and Empire have started taking shots at each other over control of one of the Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16. A war in one system could lead in to other systems very quickly. I ask all commanders to report and help your allies in the war vs the empire and the federation. This as we know it. Could spring in to the War of the Century.

What are you basing this on? Do you have screenshots or something you can share?

Title: PBSF Hero Hospitalized
Location: Galnet / Neto, LHS 448, Wolf 1509
Time: ASAP

The Neto Herald has today learned that legendary PBSF fighter ace Eddie Rickenbacker (callsign Legacy-1) has been rushed into the infirmary within the Riverton disctrict. The reason for this is, for the moment, unknown, however we have been told that Rickenbacker is in a critical condition, and that his family are with him.

The callsign Legacy-1 has long been retired as a mark of respect to the aging fighter ace, who served as a master tactitian to Captain Anaidni, PBSF leader during the revolution of 3300. Well known by pilots both old and new within Ising Vision station, Rickenbacker has been a welcome sight in the PBSF halls for many years, passing his wisdom, and filthy sense of humour, down to the rookie pilots within the organization.

We will of course keep you updated as we hear more from specialists within the Riverton General hospital, but for the moment the best wishes of all of us here at the Neto Herald are with Eddie and his family. We hope you will join us in offering your support also, in this troubling time.

My original text for this one is a bit long so I'll post two versions of it for your convenience. If you feel the original is too long, please feel free to use the second one or edit as you see fit.

Long Version:

Title: Leaked Report Reveals Alien Life
Location: Galnet
Time: ASAP
Description:

Following months of research on the Unknown Artifacts, a leaked report recently surfaced allegedly from the Canonn Interstellar Research Group, revealing startling discoveries to the true nature of the mysterious objects.

Since the UA’s entered wide circulation across the galaxy, many scientists have been competing to understand the nature of the objects. Initial efforts to take samples for analysis from the Artifacts had been reportedly unsuccessful, due to the Artifacts strange radiation rapidly degrading equipment in close proximity. With the discovery of Meta-alloys and Prof. Ishmael Palin’s successful manufacture of UA-resistant cargo racks, research efforts are reported to be back on track.

The leaked report reveals that new meta-alloyed research equipment has been manufactured and using the new equipment, dissection of a UA has been successful in lab conditions. Report confirms the object to be of organic nature and contains living tissue resembling an extensive nervous system, supported by a liquid substance of also living cells. Initial chemical analysis is perplexing and contains many unknown compounds. Report also suggests that once dissected, the organic tissues inside the outer shell begin to degrade rapidly; therefore research is proceeding at a very slow rate. The many internal workings of the organism are still a mystery but the scientists seem particularly baffled by how it is able to move through space without any external propulsion.

The report has caused huge controversy among the scientific community with many agreeing that this is the greatest discovery of human history. Others argue the authenticity of the report and suggest that evidence is required to confirm these findings. So far, Canonn Interstellar Research Group representatives have refused to comment on the leaked report.

TITLE: Paying the Piper in the Pleiades

DESCRIPTION:
Mercenary vessels of all shapes and sizes have embarked for the Pleiades Nebula, seeking fame and fortune. At the time of this article's publication, tens of millions of credits worth of combat bonds have been awarded to commanders fighting on both sides, with the promise of significant bonuses awarded to the supporters.

Frank Vandercroft, a Federal mercenary fighting in Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16, shared his thoughts about his chosen allegiance in the conflict.

“Frankly, I don't care particularly for the Imps or the Feds. I'm just fighting for the Feds because I know they pay their bills. The Imps? I have some Elite buddies who fought for them in Daramo, but the Imps welched on their deal. There's an old saying; ‘He who pays the piper calls the tune.’ Those buddies are fighting for the Feds now. If the Imps want mercs, they are going to have to pay the piper.”

GalCop Sends Aid to Inquisition Outpost

TEXT:
The Galactic Cooperative of Worlds was recently made aware of a coordinated Federal effort to claim Pleiades Sector IH-V c2-16, a research hotspot currently under the purview of the Imperial Inquisition. In response, Jahena Yar Savor, Chief Executive Officer of the Cooperative, issued a public statement to clarify GalCop's stance on the developing situation:

"Upon close examination of the events presently unfolding in the Pleiades, we have concluded that the Federal military presence in the sector has no legal standing and therefore constitutes an act of unprovoked aggression; furthermore, the Cooperative will take any necessary actions to defend our allies and their assets, regardless of affiliation, and invites all of its members and supporters to assist the Inquisition in the defense of their research outpost."

While some have suggested that the decision to intervene may be directly related to a similar skirmish involving GalCop ships and a Federal task force in Merope earlier this year, officials within the Cooperative have dismissed such claims as merely wild speculation.

Your submission has been published in Eravate, LHS 3447, Lave and Agarla.

Since we usually add the Commander's name to the bottom of the submission, you might want to avoid including your Commander as a source within the submission itself.

It's a minor point (and it doesn't usually influence whether or not a submission is chosen for publication), but to have a Commander appear in a story that has been reported by that same Commander represents a slight immersion break. Just something to keep in mind.

The rules on the first page say that the commander name needs to be included, so I had hoped that would suffice to satisfy that requirement. Oh well, good for future info. Thanks for publishing it!

NOTE:
This article is intended as an introduction to the Federation and the Empire for newer commanders who are choosing sides in the Federation / Empire community goals. I’ve borrowed very heavily from official Frontier sources. Since this article becomes Frontier property after I submit it, I figure that's not a problem?
I tried to make this article of a similar length to the Sima Kalhana briefings which served as inspiration. This is likely far too long for GalNet, but perhaps it could serve as a resource in an upcoming newsletter? As always, edits are welcome.

TITLE: Choosing a Side

DESCRIPTION:
As posturing between the superpowers continues, and as battle lines are drawn, commanders are being incentivized by the Federation and the Empire to choose a side.

Ila Archana, apprentice to renowned historian Sima Kalhana, prepared a briefing for independent commanders seeking to learn more about the two superpowers before committing to either.

“The current tension between the Federation and the Empire can be traced back to their founding. Knowing their histories will aid you in choosing which to support.”

Federation:
“The Federation arose from the ashes of the Third World War in the mid 21st century. In 2242 the Federation Accord was created, outlining certain rights and responsibilities for members, uniting many of the early colonies, by force in some cases. It is worth noting that the protection of xeno-culture and life forms was a key tenet of the Federation’s founding.”

“To an outsider, the hierarchy of Federation society is based on democratic principles, however, corporate loyalty oils the machine, and Federation space is a battleground of commerce. Federal law is based on an agreed Constitution. People have rights and freedoms, enshrined by this agreement. A great many things are illegal, like slavery, cloning and certain narcotics. Social class is divided between ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’. There is a lot of poverty, as well as conspicuous wealth.”

Empire:
“The Empire was founded by Marlin Duval, a wealthy woman who had grown disillusioned by the ever increasing rigidity of the Earth governments and stifling social conformity. They settled the Achenar system during the mid 23rd century, and though Duval didn’t know it at the time, one of the few known sentient species watched their landings. Before long the species was made extinct by the settlers, mainly through imported bateria.”

“Imperials value both status and honour very highly indeed. So whilst it is acceptable to flaunt wealth, treating people well is a question of honour – and this includes slaves. Law is seen and enforced very differently in the Empire. Senators are responsible for enforcing the Emperor’s laws, but the Senators themselves are above the law. In the Empire, very little is illegal, but many things are frowned upon, like excessive use of narcotics. Imperial society is strictly stratified, with people being able to move between strata based on money, patronage and influence.”

Conflict:
“The Federation and the Empire first came in conflict with one another in the 2320s, when the Federation invaded Achenar. Much has been made over the years of the Federation’s reasons for invading Achenar, in particular the claim that the annihilation of the native sentient species was little more than a slim pretext. The principal reason for the military action was Achenar’s refusal to join the Federation.”

“Today the superpowers have once again come to blows, this time over the fate of unique lifeforms in the Pleiades Nebula. The current conflict threatens to spread and engulf much of human space in a war, the likes of which humanity has yet to see.”

“Whether you choose to get involved or withhold your support, do so with care. The fate of humanity may be determined by your action or inaction.”

Title: Seven Sisters descend into conflict.

War has come to the Pleiades cluster with Imperial and Federal factions engaging in major battles throughout Pleione and Merope systems. Reports of aggressive interdiction procedures from both Imperial and Federal navy in Maia are also emerging. Witnesses state that over two dozen Capital ships are slugging it out for supremacy. Constituting a sizeable battle-fleet commitment from both of these Superpowers.

Professor Huros who heads up the Canonn’s Lab-69 spoke out “I don’t blame the Imps. They were forced to respond to the Feds land grab and resource claim. But we don’t want either of them interfering with free science, they are both part of the problem now.“ The Professor went on “…the biggest question is, what the hell do they know that they are not telling us? Trillions of voters and patrons across the bubble are scared and need answers from their leaders? Where are the Emperor and President? Getting a massage?”

The rules on the first page say that the commander name needs to be included

Yes, I realise my feedback must have seemed contradictory! Sorry about that.

It’s true that we ask you to include your Commander name, but an increasing number of people are using pen names; if you include your Commander in your submission, you could always sign off with a pen name to avoid any narrative dissonance. But it’s a minor point, really.

I’ve amended the submission guidelines to reflect that both pen names and commander names can be used.

Title: Response to Sima Kalhana
Location: Galnet
Time: Not important
Description: If you want peace, prepare for war

Sima Kalhana's recent documentary regarding the alien life known as Thargoids reminds us to look up from the daily grind of work and politics to reflect on the very real possibility that humans are not alone in the galaxy.

A group calling themselves the Myrmidon Initiative made a statement earlier today encouraging Commanders to think about and publicly discuss peaceful "first-contact" protocol in the event we make contact with alien life. The group claims that "It is better to have these talks now and be prepared before it's too late".

"A first-contact scenario has the potential to bring with it and few initial misunderstandings between races. Our goal should be to work through these misunderstandings even if conflict is apparent from the beginning. As the ancient writer Vegetius so aptly stated; If you want peace, prepare for war."
