Well that doesn't make any sense at all. Its the same bgs if they turn off the servers they turn them all off.

If the database did decide the future of the game, wouldn't it make sense to turn odd off? If they're not making the tick in a reasonable time frame, wouldn't it be due to having the additional load of odd inputs? They're probably facing the choice now, they're going to have to pay more in server resources or don't care it takes most of a day? All they would have to do is turn off odd and it would return to happy land.

Of course they're not going to do that, so challenges to solve.

If you are playing Odyssey and the servers go down, you can't quickly jump across to horizons and carry on playing.

They could stop the client being compatible if they wanted to I guess.

Anyway, wasn't Horizons supposed to be rolled into Odyssey at some point to combine player bases or is that off the table now? Horizons won't be kept in it's 'pristine' condition then.

Yes, I mean I hope it is otherwise it's really bad.
Servers are one, client are 2 (horizon and odyssey).

Client is like a browser and the server is like internet. I have firefox, many have Chrome, and a few have Edge. We still use the same internet.

Databases run on servers (In case you didn't realise that) and currently there appears to be 2 versions being maintained, losing one would need less server resources, The resources allocated to Horizons should go.

And it would be silly to turn off "access" to either Horizons or Odyssey for many years anyway. For many reasons, many of which are very obvious.

It's not about servers, and there is not one 'servers' anyway. Just like ED was rolled into EDH, so will at some point EDH be rolled into EDO.

You're 'debating' with an angry person who spent their money on an expansion their PC cannot run in its current resource-hogging form... (I spent £50 on CP2077, hate it, but don't spend my time on their forum telling everyone that it is a polished turd...)

Let them sulk, it is easier in the long run - no argument will change their view, play EDO and enjoy it, they can stick to Horizons and everyone will be happy enough!

Fwiw, you can run both just fine with GFN on even the tiest laptop in high quality.

Indeed, review bombing is the latest explanation for people who disagree with a review rating.

Remember kids, if the game is rated highly and you disagree : "paid shill"
If the game is rated badly and you disagree : "review bombing".

The fact Steam punish harshly the first, and have measures to prevent the second is totally irrelevant.

It's like in a multiplayer game, if you got killed it's luck-cheat. If you kill someone, it's skill.

The fundamental game when it was released was technically excellent, the initial framework and promise of what could be added afterwards kept me regularly playing for years. For that, I can't complain and I was an alpha backer so put the money and the time in- I guess I would have posted a positive Steam review at the time on that basis.

However, Odyssey is a poor effort and feature- I didn't want legs particularly but that's what we got. I think the original team have moved on over that time, and I'm not really sure whether the current developers have any sort of vision anymore. If I was going to post a review on Steam of the Odyssey expansion, I wouldn't recommend it so I would mark it as negative, and my basis for that would be over performance- it's crap compared to Horizons.

The base game had a good developed framework that I hoped would be built on over the yeras, but Frontier have never really fleshed out the features, and my particular gripe is their lack of VR development since release, but considering all the recent news over dropping console support I realise expecting anything more now isn't going to happen.

So despite not posting reviews on Steam anyway, what I have done is stopped playing, and moved on sadly. But I hang around here because I've earnt the chops and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

My feelings are similar and I'm playing very infrequently now. Performance issues and bugs aside, my main beef with EDO is that the new gameplay is very lacklustre and uninspired.

I feel that ED has been living off its potential for years, but not purposefully moving forwards towards fulfilling that potential. Ever since Horizons launched, FDev seems to have lacked a clear direction or vision for ED, and development and additions seem to be rather piecemeal and whimsical. If there is a long-term vision, it certainly hasn't been well-communicated.

EDO could be a solid basis for a lot of new content and mechanics, but the same was said of Horizons, and many of the base game's core features have still yet to be properly fleshed out (eg Powerplay, piracy, smuggling, mutlicrew, exploration, etc). That's not to say that there haven't been significant improvements to the game over the years. For instance, I thought they did a good job of expanding mining and there have been numerous and much-needed quality-of-life and UI enhancements. And EDO has improved a lot over the course of the 11 updates.

But Odyssey was supposed to usher in a new era for ED, and I am starting to get the impression that FDev is not willing or able to commit significant resources to further ED development. I can't say that the events of the past year have left me optimistic about the game's future. But I hope FDev will prove me wrong.

The above poster is suggesting that some significant aspects are integrated such that you can't just "turn off" Horizon servers or Odyssey servers. Obviously player access to one or the other can be removed from the launcher. I don't know the answer to this, but this seems highly likely to me.

Also its obvious that removing access to either Horizons or Odyssey in the near future would drop a large portion of the player base.

Assuming Frontier go ahead with their previously announced codebase merge, there will no longer be Horizons as it is today (apart from console users, for however long that lasts) but the EDO expansion code with restrictions for Horizons only owners. (all assumption - going by information previously offered and how the Horizons additions were gated from base game)

The current Horizons (PC) client and EDO client are sharing data between the versions - which may explain why the daily tick takes so long to complete, it takes much longer than it did when Horizons was the only client.

It's not the customer's responsibility to do anything other than part with money for a product.

If a game's rating is low, that's probably because its quality is low. As Frontier improve the quality, the rating will probably follow.

Holy cow, that blame switching came so fast, it's insane. I'm impressed ! You start by bashing Fdev, and literally 2 sentences later it's entirely the player fault !
