Game is doomed.

This game will be doomed if fdev don't fix the core game instead of offering more content! so many bugs to put up with and now market counters not working despite the very same prob last year. What have we paid for? hope of a game that works?

Yeah, post Horizons 2.0 release I've grown from giving almost fanboyish support of E: D to adding a ton of salt to everything Braben is "excited" and "things being great" statements. In fact, he kinda starts sounding like a broken record, all the while we see nothing which would equal the significance of 2.0 reveal. Check for yourself, he is always repeating vague statements of unspecified things which will be great and they can't wait if we find them etc. etc. I also see repeated statements on the forum like "it's basic now, but just you wait till [insert next major update number here] drop". And I've adopted "seeing is believing".

As for steamcharts, see you in two-three weeks after everyone buys the krait and engineers it?

Waiting for the paid DLC, wonder what it will be. If it's good, I will buy it. If it's don't I won't. Just please note this time how they are talking about Q4 and compare it afterwards, when it hits.

Steamcharts. There were a whole lot who never purchased through Steam, but got their copy through the Frontier Store. So I don't put a lot of faith in the steamcharts. FD knows how many play and when. They have their own metrics from their login servers.

seriously!!!
now, if only there were a plan in place where they were going to address some core gameplay components...

How do you know there's not a plan in place. They aren't obligated to inform the users of what they plan to do. And after all the bashing on the forum, I can't blame them. If it doesn't work out the way they expect, then "They said they were going to do such and such. But what they gave us is crap. Wahhhhh!!!!!" This game is so complex that it seems every part of it interacts with and affects most other parts. But that's what you get when you build a world.

did you hear that loud wooosh! noise? :p

Don't get these dead/dying threads.

This games been going "technically" from the 1980s... Elite isn't a new game it has a massive following more than enough player base to keep it going.

Firstly player numbers are good they aren't world of warcraft level but they are high on Steam, we don't know client numbers but can assume they are equal or more or less the same so we're near 10k daily.

Secondly Frontier have a lot of IPs and other games doing well. Planet Coaster and Jurassic thingy mabob have both made money. Elite still makes money through the Frontier Store as well as game sales. Frontier have Xbox stuff and Braben was a founder of the Rasberry Pi... there is loads of cash in reserve or things to sell off to fund this game.

David Braben has proven time and time again he makes good games he is one of the most experienced CEOs in the gaming industry. 80s Elite are a revolution in gaming and one of the first open world games.

Yes Elite and space games are marmite but things are good. This game will never hit millions of players per day but plenty of smaller indie games with a smaller daily player base have survived and thrived.

Couldn't have put it better!

Seems to be a recurring theme on this forum at the moment...

(People not actually reading the OP and reacting only to the title without context, that is)

As are clickbait titles and attention seeking threads.

As pointed out previously- the sarcasm meant by the OP was NOT very clear. Nor is it up to the reader to "get" What the OP means- it's for the communicator to clearly state intent.

As to the sarcasm- I'd be the first one in line to agree that the game is in no way "doomed" even if half the players were to leave it tomorrow.

As to the ridicule of others who didn't "get" the sarcasm, I'd say it says more about those ridiculing than it does for those it's intended for.

NOW you can say Elite Dangerous is doomed:

"And there's going to be plenty more Frontier-branded games to look forward to. The studio embraces the games-as-a-service model, with teams still working on all of its self-published titles, but it's not slowing down the creation of new projects. There was two years between Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster, 18 months between Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution, and Braben expects the gap will get smaller still. There are two new games (we weren't allowed to see) in active development, and with the prospect of publishing, we should expect to see a lot more from the company."

Or not... I honestly don't know. Read this latest article and make up your own mind:

I must be dim... Don't see an (new) issue?

He's saying the game is doomed because FD can't multi-task between games. You know - like the way Apple folded when they started making iPhones and macs - because those crazy fools thought that having multiple income streams was a thing. The market certainly showed them where to go...

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Seriously though, it's not 'doomed', it's just going downhill... Continuously...

It will be doomed in about 5-10 years, unless they start putting effort into it again.

Indeed...

If they have multiple games in development, I couldn't careless. If this means financial security, great!

As long as ED get serious development effort, and better still benefits from tech developed elsewhere (eg: cross game benefits such as assets from JWE for ED's atmospheric landings), that all sounds fine to me.

That said, I really do not look at the development that's taken place over the past 2-3yrs and see 100+ bums on seats. It's generally too shallow and simplistic in nature to seem to reflect that size of development IMHO.

Planetary landings was a glimmer of the development scale I was hoping for, and since then almost every main update has been questionable, shallow or a little more than a dead end bolt on. So while I don't see articles and comments that have been posted here recently concerning, I do see the past 2-3yrs of ED concerning! Unless Q4 or ED 4.0 shows a significant change in design ethos, I can't see that worry going away for me...

But it's not about not getting the sarcasm. It's about not bothering to read the actual post and commenting based on the title alone.
