Game unplayable both OPEN and SOLO, Frontier please fix your game!

Okay, thank you. Please bear with me. Have you done anything in the BIOS, such as adjusting the speed of the RAM, for instance? I found out to my cost that this may cause no end of problems, such as BSODs, CTDs, stuttering... Oh, and it also caused my USB ports to act up, messing around with my Oculus Rift S. Fascinating.
Thanks for replying. No I don't like playing in the bios. Nothing changed in my hardware or software configuration on the last few weeks. The only update was the oculus rift drivers. I will try the game in 2D to see if there is any difference

I have the rubberbanding jumpy ships since the September update. First it was only CMDRs doing it around stations, after patch 1 or 2 the NPCs started doing it too but CMDRs jumped to a lesser degree as before. It's not fun to get into Jaques with the huge pod of Belugas jumping around the mailslot.

Jaques is always a bit problematic because of the amount of ships there and at the beacons, which share the instance of the starport.
But the rubberbanding is everywhere, not only Jaques sadly.

Can you folks help us with this thing? We need your support. Current II is interesting and many of us enjoying it, but sometimes it's even hard to enter the station and dock (and it looks ugly) ;)
If there is a suspicion that the problem may be on our side of the link, please let us know what to do 🤷‍♂️
We need to transport this fertilizer, especially in open ;)

P.S: Yep, issue is noted on the issue tracker.

You can check your ram with some memtest 86 analog in windows 10. You can check your disks with checkdisk. You can stress your GPU or CPU OCing with any 3DMark. You can check ED's installed files.

Wont fix Elite's leaks I'm afraid. This game lose performance with each and every update since beyond.

I tried on PS4 again, and I'm more confident now that the severe stuttering I'm seeing on that platform is post-update. When I went to launch my ship, I got about 5 seconds of smooth play, and I thought, "Wait, this is how I remember the game!" I had many complaints about graphic quality on PS4, but I never complained about framerate. Then all of the sudden the stuttering kicked in, and it was AWFUL. As in, borderline unplayable. If I was still a PS4-exclusive player of this game, this would have been the straw that broke the camel's back, the final nail in the coffin of this game.

So yeah, something is borked with the game itself, and it's not machine-related.

I have it everywhere close to a starport if a CMDR is in the instance. Sometimes it settles after a while sometimes it doesn't. It started for me with the Sept. update with CMDRs zigzaging and the behavior expanded to the NPCs with the 1st or 2nd patch. The NPCs around Jaques were fine for me before the patch which introduced the rubberbanding to NPCs. I actually quite liked to fly around the Belugas with my sidie which is now impossible.

I made all updates, checked the ram, removed temp files and so on to clear some space.
I confirm I still have the issue. Even the sound stutters and the NPC ships leave zig-zag contrails

Latest update. If I don't play the game the computer is fine and it can run any software.
If I launch Elite Dangerous and I play in SOLO I have very long Witch Space sequence and after few minutes the game start freezing (audio included) and when I exit the game the complete computer is slow and unresponsive.

There are way too many people having the same problem, I would be very surprised if this particular issue isn't caused by the game.

I didn't mean to imply that, I was merely trying to find out if he had done that. ;) Plus, sometimes an issue may be caused by meeting more than one condition.

@ SenseiMatty

Thank you. :) I just hope FDev fixes this ASAP.

FWIW, my problems aren't this bad. I've definitely taken a small performance hit (I can tell when I uncap framerate), and sometimes I get stuck in tunnel for awhile in Open at CG, but not in Solo. My only problem in Solo is that annoying whiplash effect. How hard are you pushing your machine - were you at your fps limit before the update?

It's locked at 60fps I've never changed that setting and details high when I use VR. In 2D it used to be smooth also with ultra settings but tonight I kept it at high also in 2D and I had the issue again. If I push too high details in vr the first thing I notice is the head tracking that becomes very slow. I didn't had issue with that though.. Head tracking was smooth as usual.

This did not happen before the September update. Tempted to permanently switch to Solo until this gets fixed, not only is it an eye sore but it's pretty hairy trying to navigate traffic in the CG systems.

[VR user] I have noticed rubber banding at space ports, I'd say nearly every time. I have a reasonable wired Internet connection. I'm also experiencing occasional freezes of maybe half a second, about once every few minutes. Stuttering also occurs. This is all since the original September update.

The performance drop in Has Res, started for me since the introduction of Chapter Four: Beyond. I then upgraded from the GTX 970, that was doing okay with a bit of tweaking before C4B set down to 60FPS in SteamVR For Windows Mixed Reality (Lenovo Explorer) to a 1660ti which is give or take either way a 1070 with 6GB GDDR6 as opposed to 8GB GDDR5. I still had to dial everything down as before with the 970, and lowering the in game Super Sampling setting and/or HMD Quality setting (which is only required in these scenario's because of the new fog performance hit) produced an affect that is difficult to describe, but I'll attempt to below:

I don't have the technical vocabulary, so I'll try to describe it as close as I can with the below example:

Let's take a shape; here we'll cut a circle from cardboard. Cut another slightly larger say another eight of it's diameter from glass that has a geometric grid of raised prominent ridges that intensify in height (perpendicular to the face of the circle) towards the edges. Lay the glass circle on top of the first circle. Now, facing this move the glass circle towards yourself until you see the refraction occur from the ridges on the glass and keep it at that distance. Now turn the glass clockwise and anti clockwise, or sway your head and observe how the image of objects refracting at the edge and it's intensity reducing toward the centre. Now imagine every object in the res site has its very own tailor shaped ridged glass overlay: That's as close as I can get it.

Apparently this can be cured by turning Volumetric FX to 'Ultra', but seeing as this occurs in my case when trying to dial down SS and HMD settings , that is obviously not a suitable option. If there was a 'Turn Ring System Fog Off' graphics setting, maybe that would sort it.

It's only in Rings that this occurs for me. The performance takes a dive where it didn't before Chapter Four. This was the chapter that introduced new graphics fx 'improvements'.

This issue was reported in the in the Bugs Forum, nearly a year ago. In fact it was reported during the Beta, along with the pirate patch over one eye monoscopic/stereoscopic combination magic experience of the new exploration overlay menu immersion suspender. Then it got released anyway.
