Game's future

This has been an interesting post, just wish I would have had a coffee first before reading it. So to summarise...

OP declares the game is dead, using a graph with no indication of time frame, or even if it is about ED. For all we know it could be the graph for Goat Simulator!

Next, OP tries to justify his post by posting this stinging rebuttal:

me and my friends are giggling at amount of fanboys, whiteknights and apologists (one even seem to have made whole thread to somewhat excuse steamcharts) that attacked this thread

oh and yes i know im right from amount of REP im recieving for first post

As rebutalls go, this is pretty lame, but it did get me intrigued. For all we know, the only REP the OP received was from his friends. And just what are 'you and your friends' doing giggling, that indicates a distinct lack of maturity, maybe they were all sitting in a circle or something?

Why not say Player Made Factions, which PMF is a short for? Why all these acronymes that will turn people away, rather than bring them in?

It's short for Player Minor Faction - if you're going to fill the chat with longforms then do try and get them right.

And what's an acronyme - sounds cool ;)

Fairly stable curve. Surprising, for that kinda means a lot of people keep eating the engineer crap that's been fed to them.

In other news and commenting on the thread title: "Past performance is not indicative of future results".

I can't speak for anyone else, and I don't care about Steam charts at all, but I will say that this statement...

Disappointment with elite dangerous is generally increasing.

...is true for me personally. The game has become too stagnant for me, the majority of the additions to the game have not been for myself as a non combat mostly solitary player.

I'm hoping that Q4 renews my interest in the game, but I've waited so long now just to find out what the exploration improvements will be that I almost don't care anymore. After four years I'm tired of holding on to hope, it's worn me down to the point of disregard. I'm partly afraid that Frontier can't possibly make up for four years of neglect with one update no matter how large it is.

Some people still love the game and some people can't stand it anymore, but I think a lot of players are just incredibly disappointed with Elite's development status currently.

Maybe it just means Steam is having the problem.

I didn't buy the game through steam, so I'm not "represented" in the op's graph. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Comment sections on trailers are getting more and more negative and toxic. (check new trailer comment section)
People dont expect anything great anymore from Fdevs.

Put the time on half year or year, you can see decreasing playerbase in this game after thargoids got released.

Either frontier wakes up, or this game is going to die sooner than they expected.

Many people from player faction im part of are slowly leaving or taking long term breaks, myself included.

I dont think this is the "there will always be unhappy minority" case

And yes, im making this thread, because i want to see other peoples opinions and reactions.

Good luck OP. Although you are right, and that the fact is the game is dying in the context of sales are declining for the player base, the fanbase will be very, very eager and "emotionally responsive" to tell you that you are wrong. They don't have a clue on the facts of course. But the fanbase will still tell you that you are wrong because... because... they said so I guess. And that's what will make them happy.

Fact is, as you pointed out, the game is dying in the sense of not attracting new players as all games do after they peak. But this fierce fanbase cannot handle these simple facts.

So as to the future? FDev are already telling us what they think of the future which, right now for 2018 is, "don't do much". Nothing, absolutely nothing has happened to expand the game or extend the gameplay in the past 15-20 months yet this fanbase will tell you the world has been rocked and changed beyond what you could... you could... only imagine if you shut your eyes and use your imagination. Nope, it hasn't changed.

What the Black Knights are saying: "The game is in decline. Steam charts clearly show the trend."
What White Knights are saying: "No! The game is doing fine. Its rate of decline after four years is much slower than the rate of decline of some other games. Also we don't have charts for PS4, Xbox, and non-steam versions of the game, and I think it's a pretty safe assumption that the trends for those versions of the game are Totally Different."

So I used to be a big fan of steamcharts as the only piece of data about the popularity of the game, but I just realized there is one more semi-relevant data point. Look at the posters on this thread (or 90% of the others), and their relative rep or poster status scores. Not a ton of new blood actively involved on the conversations relative to this game. Clearly those involved in the thread discussions care about the game, and many posters play it - but the breadth of the population of posters is not what I would call "rich" with varying scores.

This ship isn't going to sink because of this diehard core. However, if a viable competitor arises - ED, like these forums will be a bar limited to a few crusty regulars.

It should be added to every thread like this that the stats on steam dont take into account PS4/Xbox one and non steam users.

And it should be added to every comment like this made to a thread like this that Steam users are a representative sample of the ED player population.

It is almost like people don't research existence of previous doom threads. It is almost like numbers really mean very little and all they wanted to say that they are disappointed with game.

Every time in the past, i haven't cared in the slightest about all this.

Players don't really matter, frontier kept putting out the patches, they were great, and the game moved on.

Sadly today its different. The community management has shut down (what happened to all those info streams from last year?) and frontier seem distracted and absent.

Even the coming patch has been released with disinterest.

Something to keep an eye out for sure.

Again, i don't think players have ever mattered really. But frontiers change from within, that has nothing to do with elite, is definitely noticed.
