Game's future

This made me giggle. *sigh* I'm so old.

I never played the original Elite. My family didn't have the money for a PC back in 1984.

I did, played it for well over a year, though it did lose it's appeal after I became Elite, but other games came along during the gaming industry's infancy to replace it.

BTW Blustar, IMO people stick with Elite more so because it's a 'niche' game rather than because they are 30+ years old

Lookit, every game has a finite life, ED included. Yes life support administered by enthusiasts can prolong things but that's it.

Point is, for those who enjoy playing it, happy days! Other folks who don't like ED can play something else/do something else. It's a game.

My two cents? I think ED's flame has several, infact many good years to burn. I bet my chefs hat we will still have a Frontier supported game in 5 years time. By this point ED would be 10 years old or so. Fantastic value for money for the enjoyment it has brought in that time.

Remember you can't tell someone who doesn't like that game and spends every waking second on the forums trashing it to play another game, that is just wrong and evidently rude.

Of course playing another game if you don't like this one is the mature and logical thing to do, but alas, some here fail both the maturity and logical tests.

The Beyond Chapter 2 update didn't add big new content or features to deepen the sandbox and draw people back to the game.

The savior of ED will be the chapter 4 update with major improvements and new content. Space legs would also appeal to a large new player base.

The game has been at around 4k concurrent players fo over a year now. This seems to be the standard for ED now.

It's most likely made up of die hards and a few players popping back every now and again to see if anything has got any better.

Game isn't dead, it's sort of in limbo mode, player base isn't going up or down.

Wouldn't say it's stagnant, but definitely not on the up.

ED has always been a niche game TBH.

More like 3k-7k and that's just steam, so probably 10k-20k considering all platforms. Last time I checked the total active player base on steam was ~80k so I guess 150k-300k are playing the game. That's not bad for a niche game. Apart from that I fully agree.

According to DBOBE in a recent interview player numbers have never been higher.

ED is currently a niche game, because they didn't add space legs and EVA features yet. That would appeal to a much bigger market such as Mass Effect.

There's loads of interest in the game still. Go look at the number of views Obsidian Ant gets for his videos - 35k for the video on the announcement of Chapter 3 in roughly 24 hours. My ickle blog had 90k visitors last year and 45k this year with nearly 2k visitors in the last 48 hours.

There will be a massive increase in players come Q4 and then again for the DLC, both of which imo will be significant steps forward for the game.

And I hope that it stays a niche game even with space legs and atmos. Games (or movies or music) appealing to the masses are mostly pretty bad.

Elite will always have a dedicated player base for the simple fact that, despite it's flaws, there's currently no game quite like it and there won't be for a very long time.

(Also this is a niche market, player numbers will never be "huge," and they will fluctuate)

There's no other game out there that properly scratches my space sim itch the way Elite does. Plus I have hope in the games future and what Frontier has always planned to bring to the table.

Braben told us from the start that it would be a long ride for them to implement a lot of the features people keep asking for.

Should we get more development transparency? Perhaps. It would be nice to not be kept in the dark for such long periods of time.

However, this game certainly isn't dying.

This shows all FSDJump events recorded by EDDN in populated systems within 500 LY of Sol - a slightly odd dataset, but one I was collecting for other purposes anyway, and one which has a loose relation to the number of active players.

When I was last in the bubble, the system traffic reports, which measure the same event but more comprehensively and cross-platform, showed figures ~10x greater than these on a per-system basis, so multiply by ten to get the "real" traffic figures, and then multiply that by a number of your choice estimating the average number of jumps a (non-exploration) player makes a day to inhabited systems to get the actual number of players.

Disappointment with elite dangerous is generally increasing.
Comment sections on trailers are getting more and more negative and toxic. (check new trailer comment section)
People dont expect anything great anymore from Fdevs.

Put the time on half year or year, you can see decreasing playerbase in this game after thargoids got released.

Either frontier wakes up, or this game is going to die sooner than they expected.

Many people from player faction im part of are slowly leaving or taking long term breaks, myself included.

I dont think this is the "there will always be unhappy minority" case

And yes, im making this thread, because i want to see other peoples opinions and reactions.

Elite is completly in a maintenance mode: just a cash cow for those who wanna throws away their money to Ed.

It has completly failed it's vision, which at this time remains… well… a vision and nothing more.

During the year the grind is increased (most probably to justify to shareholder the players are tied to the game) and the expansion are dramatically stopped-

Beyond which should be the way to fix the lack to gameplay and the mistake or the lack of features in 1.0 is turned to be a giant farse: nothing but less revisited feature, mostly of the time making the game worst (engeneer, and Crime which is now a pile of trash).

There is a reason people are getting tired of Elite which is, at least to me, a pile of trash: letteraly: garbage.

And it's truly a shame because in my opinion Elite could be the best game ever.

Anyway I am happy Fd is hyped by the next expansion and how they handle the game: at least someone hyped on Ed, at the end of the game, there is.

But yes: game is letteraly going down

Yet you are still here, every day on the forums, so the game must still mean something.

Unless you are just a troll ;)

Was there a noticeable drop at the introduction of FSD upgrades and guardian booster ?.

If you complain again and again and again over the terrible things about your girlfriend without leaving, you really love her.

No you don't. You think you love her but since you wish she would change you don't love who she is. You love your vision of her and not her. In that case SHE should leave you.
