like I said guys I think that the game replaces the downloaded exe with the one from the original 2.05 download. I think that this is done to stop cheats and hackers attempting to modify the exe, but its not going to help here :(

Surely about time to roll back the patch and check that everyone can get in, give you more time to test on a smaller scale,sound like there are many unknowns as to how people are managing to get back in ??

Exact same for me, Taomyn; copied in the new exe, took longer to load after play, and still just spinning ship. The weird part is I was able to play from 12:45 EST when 2.05 when live until just now, with only a single DC. I get DC'ed again 10 mins ago, and suddenly I can't get back in. Hung during a jump between systems, and now it's just spinning ship.

edit: this is when connecting to Open Play, trying solo now

edit: logged out my machine in the launcher, restarted my comp, booted the launcher and checked for a game update (off the options menu) and lo and behold, one's available. Short patch later, and I'm back in Open Play. Thanks FD!

I was able to get in after I switched out the EXE file, turned off UPNP and used Open Play to connect. Solo and Private Group would not work for me.

Same here, I replaced the exe but the version number is still 53988 and stuck with spinning Cobra.
EDIT
Setting the file to read only before loading up the launcher doesn't help, nor does starting the launcher first and copying the file over before hitting launch.

Well, let's see here. I go to Start. And then I hover over 'Open Play' and I get a yellow box. I hover over 'Solo Play' and I get a yellow box. I hover over 'Private Group' and I get a red box.

When I click 'Open Play', I'm greeted by a spinning ship. When I click 'Solo Play', I'm greeted by a spinning ship. When I click 'Private Group', nothing happens.

Pretty sure I know how menus work. If there is something I need to enable or setup before 'Private Group' will work, it sure would be fantastic for the menu system to let me know. But since there is no such helpful feature, I made an assumption that by not having any in-game friends added, or belonging to any in-game groups, this option wouldn't make much sense for me, so the developers intentionally made it unavailable.

Glad to know I could count on you for explaining how you are able to create a private group without having any in-game friends. Oh great space wizard, please bless us with thine knowledge!

I have to correct myself.

I got disconnected after the second successful try because of matchmaking server disconnect.
I waited a little bit and now I again have the endless spinning ship.
I see my Cobra now for at least 5 minutes.
All this with Open Play.

EDIT: I justed check and it seems that I still have the old .exe as noted by the user RhinoOnAStick above.

Don't worry guys if you can't get in the game - this is the screen I see the most right now

game just update for me and i have the spinning cobra OK i'm not that computer minded where is the file frontier / ed launcher that you think might fix it with the download

I've managed to get into the game using the new launcher finally but I cannot dock anywhere, "docking request timed out, please try again" and keep getting "matchmaking server not available" disconnects :/

Did some more tests with the new .exe
UPNP disabled:
- could enter open play (it can take very long before I'm put in my ship, more then 1 minute)
- could not enter solo play

UPNP enable:
- could enter open play (it can take very long, like 1 minute or more before I'm in my ship)
- could enter solo play

Still sometimes the ship just keeps spining and no connection is made.

Previous versions did load much faster withe upnp enabled or disabled.
