GeForce Now patching process extremely slow

Yeah, the GFN Steam client got updated almost as soon as the Frontier servers were back up, don't know why the GFN Epic one isn't comparable.

Hey ho, will give it today then start raising Nvidia tickets...

The ticket's with Nvidia. The Steam client on GFN gets updated very quickly after an Fdev patch, the Epic client - not so much.

Still nothing running on EPIC - raised Nvidia Support Ticket and sent feedback issue ref this ticket no, hoping someone is now on it - took 5 days last time in March :(.

EDIT - still, I have cut my grass first time this year on a gorgeous afternoon which I may not have got around to until next week without this delay in play - also on Ep 7 of Fallout TV series - it is quite good and faithful to the games especially using actual abandoned towns in Namibia as The Wasteland instead of purely CGI.

I got the usual initial response overnight - we're so sorry to hear that you're having problems, can you send a screenshot of the error message etc. I just copy and paste from previous tickets now. And ask them again to run a force update, and also resolve the underlying problem.

The Steam update was particularly magnificent this time - at 12:02 Paul Crowther posted that the servers were back online, by the time I experimentally launched the GFN Steam client 10 or 15 minutes later it was already updated and ready to play.

Tch (sucking teeth LOUDLY).
I (naively, as I see it now) transferred my console PS CMDR to my free EPIC giveaway account which I accepted 1 or 2 years before console was stopped and never accessed it.
I couldn't see why I should get a Frontier acc instead of using my unused EPIC acc, but now I do.
I could have asked for a new free PC CMDR on Frontier and had this EPIC account as an Alt. What a dunce!

Q for @Untilting, can you play Frontier ED account on GeForceNow?
If I can I could ask to transfer my EPIC to Frontier as I am sick of 5 days before I can play after every... single.... Update!!!!

I suspect not - all the GeforceNow games are accessed via your online game libraries, the only options presented for Elite in GFN are via Steam and Epic - no way to authenticate directly with Frontier.

I suppose if you bought ED on Steam the next time they had a sale, and relinked your Frontier account to that, you'd have the speedy patches. Although, If it matters, the GFN Steam game client only has the live clients installed (I see the legacy ones too on the Epic client, but never use them). And there are several extra steps to launch compared to the Epic client.

But forking out money to Steam unnecessarily leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth - Nvidia say they support Epic (and also claim superspeedy patching), they really need to sort it out. I think this is the fourth or fifth time I've raised a ticket.

Logged in and we are in - also saw reply to my ticket saying if you are in Epic, the update is applied (Steam still has an issue apparently, in the same reply).
EPIC and GeForceNOW - thank you NVidia support.

I tried launching Epic again this morning (about 12 hours after your post above saying it was updating) and it was STILL saying updating, so I added to my existing ticket commenting that the update process must have crashed or hung. No response yet, but I logged in a few hours later and the game was playable again. 72 hours after the patch was available. Grrr.

I've launched from Steam once or twice today with no issues, and that's been playable since the patch was released. I hope Nvidia aren't messing around with the update mechanism for that - it was working!

OK understood - I don't have it on Steam but I had the following:

Hello xxxxxxx,

Thank you for your patience.

Your issue with the Elite Dangerous game update in GeForce NOW was referred to me for further review.

--> If you have the Epic version of the game, then the game has been updated to the latest version and game should be running fine now.

--> If you have the Steam version of the game, then the issue is still under investigation. Unfortunately, we do not have an ETA as to when the issue will be resolved. However, the team is working on the issue to get a fix soon.

Looking forward for your response.

Excellent and nice response from NVidia, if a little slow to force the update - just glad to get back into ED........

Sorry about this, but could I ask a favour? When you get a chance could you let them know Steam updates have been working fine, there's nothing they need to do there?

Am just worried they wreck the Steam update process trying to fix a nonexistent problem. If it ain't broken....

I have replied to their fix for Epic with thanks, and noted that there is nothing wrong with the Steam version.

Much appreciated, thanks. My ticket's now closed too, their response to my question about the 12+hours spent "we are currently patching this game" was:

Please note ideally when launching the game if it says 'game is under maintenance/Patching' then that means the game is currently parked by developers either for further optimizing or to fix any bugs that may have been found earlier

12+ hours just to push a small patch manually seems excessive - perhaps they were genuinely fixing the underlying problem on the Epic update mechanism. I guess we'll find out whenever the next update comes out!

The GFN Steam client has updated to 18.03 and is now playable, 15 minutes after Paul Crowther posted that the servers were coming back up.

The GFN Epic client..... is still the old version and is unplayable again. Looks like Nvidia didn't fix the underlying issue after all.
