Modes Get off Solo/Private groups and onto Open play!

All those threads are about the same topic while worded differently.
No, this one you see, is about bringing more people to OPEN. The thing you said it wasn't about.

Here, read:

I've played on open from day one and, yes, I've had unsolicited PVP experiences but I also have a friends list as long as my arm and have gotten alot of pleasure from:

  • Participating in a busy commuity goal
  • Feeling like the galaxy is a living/breathing place
  • Seeing other peoples' strategies, builds, playstyles, cool ship names
  • Making new friends and having interesting converstaions.
  • Unexpected congregations, fights, allies and challenges.

Can you honestly say the credits you save from the odd rebuy here and there outweighs all of that (and more)?!

Now, call me selfish if you want BUT I'm actually pretty sure that I speak for all those who chose to play in open mode when I say: Every person that segregates themselves off into a private group or solo play is diminishing their experience and everyone elses. It's such a shame.

All I ever hear from people that chose solo or PG are excuses about how they're scared of griefers or don't want to get killed by all the time. I've spent over 1400 hours in open and I've never been in a pvp situation that I couldn't just jump away from and I can count on one hand the number of times I've been attacked by someone without provocation. Of course people have been unlucky and lost out to bad PvP experiences, but the gains are so much greater than keeping a few extra credits from one or two rebuys.

TO ALL YOU PEOPLE IN SOLO AND PGs - COME OUT OF YOUR SHELLS AND INTO THE INVITING WATERS OF OPEN! DON'T LIVE IN FEAR AND PARANOIA, HELP TO BETTER YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE AND OTHERS BY CREATING A LIVING BREATHING COMMUNITY!

Again with this nonesence.
Open is not empty, I see at least 20 cmdrs who I dont know EVERY TIME I LOG IN.

The whole modes argument is not about bringing more people to OPEN. Its aboit the unbalance of the modes.

Solo/PG have an unfair advantage. That's it.

Modes should be balanced with risk-rewards. Like in investment banking, the higher the risk, the higher the percentage returned. If all stock options would return the same percentage but would be at a different risk, noone in their sane mind would invest in a high risk stock rendering high risk stocks obsolete.

You keep finding unfair advantages were none are. Only one difference between solo and open... ability for players to see and interact with each other... that doesn't give solo an advantage in fact since solo players can't get others to help them they are at a disadvantage against those in open.

And thank you again for busting the "we need open only because open is so empty" argument.

If NPCs posed the same danger as players, there wouldnt be a discussion, but they are not, and by big margin. Solo = easy mode.

Ahh here we are baiting again with antagonistic comments which are false. We know you are god among ED players and none can touch you... but just because YOU think it is easy in Solo does not mean those who play in Solo do. Stay in Open

You realize you're not a Dev, don't you?

How dare you speak for them? [big grin]

Well since you're the one telling how people should play their game, you're speaking for the the Devs, aren't you

Wow really.. damn you want to streeeeeach to get that one didn't you. yes I did say "Stay in Open" Did you perchance read the whole comment or jsut look at that nugget and pull it out of context.

Irrelevant. If someone finds SOLO difficult, they will be annihilated in OPEN. It doesnt mean the modes have the same difficulty level. They never will.
Players are smarter, faster, have higher DPS and defences than NPCs by a large margin.
Being attacked by 2 NPCs is not the same as being attacked by 2 PvPiers.

That rather depends on the player and the ship / loadout, doesn't it?

Indeed - and given that the majority of players don't get involved in PvP, it's just as well that Frontier offer two other modes for them to play the game in, isn't it?

That's not a problem at all, they can play their game, but if they opt the easy mode and I opt the harder mode our rewards shouldn't be the same.

Flying around in a meta-Engineered Combat ship is not "harder mode".

Flying shieldless in a starter Sidewinder, on the other hand....

hey, seal clubbing is an art which requires the utmost level of skill.

Yep, because selecting a target and pressing the "fire" button and waiting till it explodes takes an immense amount of "skill".

All of what, 3 seconds of interaction?

ah but you are missing all the prep work beforehand

all the skill entailed in : grinding for materials, RNGing with the engineers, looking up the latest META from SDC/ any other seal clubbing unit

Hours and hours of dedication so that you can really really enjoy those 3 seconds.

And lots of time is dedicated to prep work for PvE activities, too. Hence, that's not "skill" that's just preparation and planning.

PvE is for carebears, requires no skill, and is taking away from the seal population.

[just to be clear - all of the above 3 posts were tongue in cheek]

It's not taking away from anything- players who engage in PvE activities in Solo and Private Groups have done so for the most part continuously- most of them for the entirety of their experience in ED.

There's no "mass exodus" of PvE players from Open. Those who wish to engage in multiplayer activities in Open are still there- and some of them actually continue to post here as well stating they still play in Open.

I know ;) I'm just making sure no one else misinterprets your posts as "reality" here. :)
