Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

There have been plenty of videos where he has called for developers to be fired and called individuals incompetent. I guess it's what you define as abuse really isn't it.

I'm not "promoting the disqualification of a person's position in a discussion" at all. I am not a fan of his videos and I do not like his attitude, but at no point did I say screw him. And at no point have I said he doesn't deserve one. Ad-hominem? Are you talking about his video?

I did not use my experiences of him at any point to say Frontier should not provide him with a free Alpha key, I used it to ask a question. My whole point has been trying to understand why people:
a) think he is more deserving of a free key than those who got them
b) don't believe that Frontier have a limited amount of keys
c) care

I would appreciate it if you didn't imply I said things I clearly haven't.
well, you finally clarified what you consider an "amount of abuse levelled at members of frontier" enough to "not defend this person's position". i personally find that laughable, and have to assume that the claims about "abuse in person" are equally ridiculous, but thanks for the clarification. and i personally still consider that an ad-hominem (i understand that frontier don't want to give him a key, but the alleged abuse is not a valid justification not to even consider his claim or "defend his position". his position is perfectly valid and defensible. it's actually frontier who have been clumsy and jerky here (within their absolute right to be, indeed)).

I don't think Fdev telling him he's not a core content creator was appropriate if they were trying to distance themselves from his vulgarity.
I think Frontier are at liberty to define whom they consider core to their content creator base. Personally, I would have none of the influenzers have free keys - if they haven't bought alpha access already, then they're not that dedicated to streaming Elite :)

Why is it an excuse? As I said in a previous post, having a limitless amount of keys being given away doesn't make sense from a company perspective. If that is the reason he and many others, who haven't made videos about it, were not included in the key giveaway then that's Frontier's choice.

There's nothing insulting about it at all. Have others taken the same level of offence?

Once again, no one is being excluded from anything. Some people are not getting something for free. It really is that simple.
It’s an excuse because it’s dishonest, and so clearly not the reason why he wasn’t given a key. A limitless number of keys is not required, but they surely did not “run out of stock” before they could give Yamiks a key. If the keys are for core content creators only, as they claim, then he qualifies, and there is no material obstacle to them giving him one, so that is also dishonest.

It’s not the fact he wasn’t given a key that’s insulting. It’s the dishonest and intelligence insulting way he was refused.

Lastly, as he fits into the category of people that they claim the keys are for, and because they can easily give him one, he most certainly is being excluded.

Someone tell Yamiks .... I got a free Alpha key from Frontier.

No, really, it's not an April Fools.

I am an LEP (Lifetime Expansion Pass) holder. This means I get all the expansions for Elite Dangerous for free ... for life.

That does not automatically include the Alpha and Beta phases for it, I am included in those out of Frontier's generosity.
So in a way, I got a free alpha key ... and Yamiks didn't :D

This is precisely right. 11 pages (so far) on their forum could have been avoided. How many pages would his play-through in Alpha have created?

Yes this thread will drop but I sense his position on this won't. He'll just rev it up. They should have just coughed up to shut him up.
Good thing this is posted in the Suggestions section which is ignored by Frontier entirely :D

11 pages (so far) .... whoopie doo. There's a 100+ page thread just because someone posted that they were not enthused about an FPS game being incorporated into a space sim game.

Trust me, there's very few people on this forum who care that Yamiks didn't get a free alpha key.

Well, it wouldn't have shut him up - and neither should it - but it would have got a 10 second 'thanks to fdev for the review copy' preface - which will now be replaced by something less friendly I guess.
Yes, the clumsiness was mine this time. You are quite correct. You have to wonder though, they must have predicted this reaction and if not, why not?

Threads don't die they just get moved to suggestions.

Yeah, it is his 'thing' now, that 'thing' he does. People get trapped in that stuff, they often learn to resent it. Typecast actors, always playing the fool but want to be serious Shakespearean actors or bands that had one hit 20 years ago trying to promote new stuff just get endless requests to 'play that other one'.

We're still talking about Midge Ure here, right?

[Yamiks YT Vid Description]: Let's talk about Frontier developments and their continuation of bad practices when it comes to media interaction and handling. Rather disgusting behavior from a business that use to actually abide by good practices mire years ago! What did change and what is to come!? Lack of community support, abuse of creators and good will. Lesson of the day : support independent media and game developers that are not afraid of critique!

[Frontier]: Give this man FREE STUFF!!!

Well that's not quite how it works. Content creators play a very important role in marketing nowadays, for better or for worse. It's in any game dev's interest to get content creators (youtubers, streamer, etc) talking about their game, playing and showcasing it. Look at Valheim's story if you're interested in learning more.

I love ED and I have (had) absolutely no beef with Fdev whatsoever. However, right here Fdev are crashing and burning big time. Yes, Yamiks is a provocative son of a gun in some cases (most cases), which is why some of us find his videos about our favorite game hilarious and highly entertaining, but he's is pretty balanced in his critique of both the game and Fdev. Look at his Star Citizen videos, if you want to see Yamiks really spew fire, again for all the good reasons in the Universe.

This story reminds me of Hardware Unboxed vs Nvidia, where an honest review, after a stupid attempt to show "power", ended op with Nvidia begging for mercy while the Youtuber ended up being able to buy all the graphics cards he wants. I guess you can't fix stupid, and that history repeats itself. My sympathy is 100% on Yamiks side in this case, which kind of proves the point, because that leaves 0% for Fdev, and honestly that is not Yamiks fault, so who else could it be?
Let Free speech rule, Just give him a key and be done with it.
Otherwise FD starts to look Political and Bias, which is BAD for all.

While I do agree with the people in here that none of the influencers/content creators should get a free key in the first place I also agree that it is a rather week excuse to not give Yamiks one because he's not a "core content creator" when he is in fact #2 on YouTube by subscribtion numbers.
