Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

I'm still not doing the alpha but I just got round to sticking my pre-order in. I've already had £30 worth of entertainment right here. Just waiting for the Polygon and Kotaku articles now and the thread can assume its final form.

I don't think it's hard to understand it's not about the money itself. It's about respect for people doing free marketing for your game?
Isn't that respect meant to go both ways? Yamiks can be childish (most of the time) right up to downright toxic (quite often). I un-subbed a long time ago, dont need an idiot to tell me what I should be seeing or playing, but to your point, is it really free marketing for a game or just marketing for a YT channel? A channel only one person makes money on!

Then to be perfectly honest I think that says far more about you than it does me.
it' says that our criteria of what constitutes abuse are different but you somehow think yours is superior or more warranted. quite apt to the context.

then again, abuse is a serious issue and trivializing it doesn't do anybody a good favor ...

Once again, where did I or anyone else suggest that was the reason that he has not been given a key? I haven't said that, you need to stop implying that I have.
you said explicitly that his background of abuse disqualified any support for his position:

but after the amount of abuse levelled at members of Frontier, online and in person, I cannot believe anyone is defending his position.
you don't even mention the key, you act surprised that someone even defends his position. this implies that due to his background (which you are sole judge for) he isn't entitled to even have a position worth considering. pretty clear english even for me, you might rephrase that if that's not what you meant.

Well that's not quite how it works. Content creators play a very important role in marketing nowadays, for better or for worse. It's in any game dev's interest to get content creators (youtubers, streamer, etc) talking about their game, playing and showcasing it. Look at Valheim's story if you're interested in learning more.
Oh yeah, I know how it works; I just don't agree with it. It's one of the weird aspects of social media that doesn't make a lick of sense (too me): my opinions, desire to play something or desire to buy something is not swayed but someone hamming it up to a camera.

The fact Yamiks monetised the video where he moans he didn't get a free key from Frontier, tells you all you need to know about Yamiks.
more about how the youtube business works (which frontier still needs to figure out, apparently).

anyway, thanks for your ongoing contribution in this thread for the greater glory (and cash) of the yamiks XDDD

You are being personal. You directed it at me by saying “I cannot understand why people defend someone who has been so openly abusive in the past”. I’m the one who started the thread so I’m obviously defending him.
I was not directing it at any one person, and as I have said that is by no means the only instance.

If you actually watch his video he claims to have followed up asking if he has in fact been blackballed and was told no. Maybe he’s not telling the truth.

My point of defending him is because of their response. If they had refused him and stated he was rude to staff or broke certain rules which they can’t reward, so be it. But they apparently didn’t.

He is a very well known ED content creator who has been around a long time. I watch his videos amongst others because even though he may be critical he gives good examples of how things could be better. It’s not just being critical for the sake of it. He can afford to buy the Alpha access but that’s not the point.
Frontier have obviously made their choices based on a combination of some old content creators and some new content creators, this was made obvious months and months ago when they gave out the content creator packs. And maybe even some new content creators who they think can appeal to an audience that is more suited to Odyssey than the "normal" Elite audience.

you said explicitly that his background of abuse disqualified any support for his position:

I asked where I said that was the reason he hadn't been given a key. You respond and say "you didn't even mention the key".
Exactly.

I also said I cannot believe, not no-one should be allowed. And I am by no means the sole judge.

TBH I don't think of it as marketing. I think of him making videos for people who he knows already agree with him. They validate him, he validates them.

I don't like it either, but that's how it works unfortunately.

You said that you only became a fan of him because every other content creator was happy that Frontier had lowered the upkeep. That will include content creators who are often critical of Elite and Frontier. So if you are only a fan of his videos because he's critical then I would think it's fair for me to assume that you wouldn't like the few where he's praised Frontier. Though I am assuming, so...

And that's a fair enough opinion to have

No I was explaining that there can be abuse found in his videos. If you don't think that cornering someone who has come along to a community organised event of their own free will, and having a go at them because you think their actions are terrible, you think they're (insert a few swear words) at their job, and the deserve to be fired, is abusive.
Then to be perfectly honest I think that says far more about you than it does me.

How do you know it's dishonest and that's the reason he wasn't given a key? He may be a content creator, but there are many, many other content creators. You are suggesting that Frontier are excluding everyone who regularly makes content based on Elite Dangerous but didn't get a key. That just seems a little strange to me.
Personally I have been watching Yamiks videos since very shortly after I started playing the game. He had the humor the game laked, he taught me stuff, also stuff that might be considered in the grey area, but so did D2EA, and he is a much more well mannered creator than Yamiks is. I appreciate what both of them do.

Yes, it's fair to regard Yamiks as a core creator, with regards to ED, considering that he has 100K+ subsribers, equaling 1/5 of the regular players of the game, according to something I Heard Through the Grapevine ;)
