Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

He is a very well known ED content creator who has been around a long time.
I've been playing since 1984 (2014 for ED), 8 hours per day often, and using Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, etc and have never heard of him. Does he bring a following from some other games (especially as he doesn't enjoy this one)?

The fact Yamiks monetised the video where he moans he didn't get a free key from Frontier, tells you all you need to know about Yamiks.

Very much how I feel.

Yammiks probably owes a large percent of his to subscribes to the devs of a game he's consistently snarky about and there is a difference between criticism and toxicity. So, how does he like it when HIS content and hard work is 'disrespected'? Not much evidently! When his 'honesty' - that ED brings him money and FDev are the hand that feeds him - is flagged up or when FDev are consistent; I wouldn't have thought Yammiks wanted a key either. After all, he yells about the game being inferior the whole time.

For me this almost as entertaining as an Eddie Jones post-match interview. (ie. VERY ;) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿)

Oh boo hoo, some YouTuber has to pay for the game like everyone else.

Maybe I’m just that little bit too old, but I will NEVER understand the fascination with game streaming and watching videos of other people play.
I will never understand the facination with watching cricket either. Or ice skating. Or swimming. Or the whole running, jumping and chucking event thing.
Well, here's the proposition what I'd have liked to see:

  1. Have the community nominate those content-creators they would have liked to see getting alpha keys.
  2. Then have them vote for a week.
  3. Hand the Top 10 those keys.
This way the players would have had a chance to get a diverse group of creators to test stuff. D2EA and Obsidian for example for the exploration stuff, Exigious for combat, Yamiks for "beating the dead horse" on stupid design choices, etc. This way the community would get several opinions on different possible activities while the FDevs would even benefit from proper feedback provided by the more critical crowd. But those are just my two cents.
So how would the voting get converted into a CG then?
Personally I have been watching Yamiks videos since very shortly after I started playing the game. He had the humor the game laked, he taught me stuff, also stuff that might be considered in the grey area, but so did D2EA, and he is a much more well mannered creator than Yamiks is. I appreciate what both of them do.

Yes, it's fair to regard Yamiks as a core creator, with regards to ED, considering that he has 100K+ subsribers, equaling 1/5 of the regular players of the game, according to something I Heard Through the Grapevine ;)
Maybe, just maybe, do you think that Frontier might assess who they view as a core creator on perhaps a few more parameters than a simple count of subscribers on one platform?
I'm not a marketing person, so perhaps I'm wrong. But I would imagine the meeting where they decided who were their core creators went a bit further than pulling up youtube, searching for channels about ED and ordering them by subscriber numbers then taking the top ten.

I'm kinda amused that people actually seem think that not giving the key out will have a significant effect on the sales.
Yeah, like I am amused to see Fdev think that not giving him a key in any way will change what he will say. He's as much a fan of the game as the rest of us, but even though some might find his manners offensive, I don't, he often has a point in his critique, however blunt he is.

Well, i still don't know what this is about, but i'm going with some sort of early-early access key. Which, considering it is only a week or so away, its hardly major.

But even though i ilike Yamiks and do watch his videos, i think FD are doing the right thing from a business perspective (even if its not the right thing from a community perspective).

Marketing 101 says give the keys to those who are most likely to give favourable reports and won't try and break the game for some cheap laughs.

But anyway, meh, we get to play with is soon anyway, and i'll trust my own experience more than that of any streamer.

I mean, if i trusted those guys i'd have already spent money on Star Citizen, instead of trying it myself first and getting 15 FPS while standing still in a small room.

Well, his latest vid is about this. Worth a watch, it's not a long one. I think he's got a point. Kinda funny that people decide fdev shouldn't work with him because 'toxic' and then look through the comments here 🤔

Well, are you a gamer or a game developer? I do know marketing, having been a part of it for many years, but marketing and ethics are two very different things.

I think you miss the point. My understanding is, he is #2 in subscribers regarding ED YT creator content. If you are giving Alpha keys to other content creators (supposedly early) so they can have content ready to go on the 29th then that would be an unfair advantage. The reason they gave was lame in my opinion due to his number of followers. Some people like myself, like alternate viewpoints. I know there are certain creators who will give a biased opinion on the DLC because their livelihood as an ED content creator depends on it. He didn’t ask for a free DLC, he asked to be included in the content creators and media list for the Alpha period. You may have already purchased the DLC but many have not and I want unbiased views before I decide.

Forums date back to a time when the term social media had yet to be invented. But if you think you have to be a pedant, don't let me stop you. 🥴
Guess you haven't seen Halt and Catch Fire then eh? ;)

Why doesn't he just buy one?
Wildly guessing, one hypothesis could perhaps maybe be that he has reached the point where he has seen too many bits and thingies vaporize before they materialized, to preorder, but that's just me...

LOL @ this vid ..

"If you don't know me I (Yammiks) create content FOR a game called elite dangerous" ..
lol. No you don't pal .. You create content USING the assets provided to you by a game called elite dangerous.

And six days ago - two weeks before a major release that FUNDS THE HAND that feeds you - you post a deliberate 'Hyper Critical' take down (part 1) and you're surprised the devs of content you EXPLOIT don't appreciate you trying to take down a release a fortnight before it's release .. and AFTER .. LARGE amounts of cash have already been invested by the devs in it.

Fair play Yammiks .. you ain't too bright.

Can't he just buy one, it's about 30 quid.
This! - Very much this!

It appears they were quite polite to him.

Which is, you know, the complete opposite of his language about the devs.
100% agree.
Ah, his attitude has finally borne fruit.
About time his vitriolic tone burnt him.
Restricting your give-aways to people who are likely to be nice to you isn't a great look.
Nor is giving gratuities to entitled and obnoxious pillocks, so I'm with Frontier on this one.
