Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

Anyway, looking forward to the Obsidian Ant video where he calmly and neutrally discusses the current forum outrage and offers a carefully worded opinion on the subject matter. :D

Simple solution. If Yamiks gets a free key, then FDev should give everyone the Cobra MK-IV.
FDev should just give everybody free alpha access, you know, like most other companies do with their pre-releases.

Much bigger testing pool to draw on and biggest marketing tool for your product available, let everybody try it for a limited time. If it's good people will then go ahead and buy it.

enough of their customers value his content, and clearly don't take much issue with his language. But that's just my opinion.
I'm sure they don't but FD absolutely do care about the language issue. Look how heavily this forum is moderated. The swear filter is heavy. I cant even type the full name of the author of A Tale Of Two Cities. So they didn't make this response up in a flash, they have taken that approach for some time. It is entirely possible that they used it as an excuse but it is an extremely plausible one.

Having said that.

Or maybe not.
I was absolutely a mod edit, I saw the original post. It had the word in there alright. It has been manually edited because apparently, that word got through.

What do you mean "should"? Frontier are giving out alpha access, they just don't want to give alpha access* to someone they know (based on past videos) is just going to crap all over the product they are trying to sell. Yamiks will literally hurt their profit margin, and in this day and age, money talks. If Yamiks doesn't want to take responsibility for his own actions, that's his choice, but don't waste your time defending him, he won't do the same for you (in my opinion).

EDIT: *It should be noted Yamiks asked for a review copy of Odyssey, a practice not uncommon in game reviewing, however from what I've been reading following Yamiks's rant, it seems Frontier have not given out any review copies .... I could be wrong about this, of course.

Sounds very neutral to me. Especially when you compare with most content creators who hype stuff.

I'm with you on FD should provide alpha access to everyone who has purchased the expansion. There is a bit of history here though going right back to launch, where they charged people to access betas and part of the perks of certain backer levels and the sale of the LTE was getting free beta access.

You know what would happen if they started giving out free alpha access now?

Yup, you got it, 100 page forum threads with people saying FD ripped them off because they promised free early access for them and now everyone gets it for free. I'm sure there would be calls for refunds and worse.

Its a hole FD dug for themselves unfortunately, and one they would have to face flack for if they tried to dig themselves out of.

Huh? Maybe I can't read sarcasm now, but this doesn't seem a very common practice to me.

E: If meaning everyone who bought the DLC. It's hardly the common practice either, closed betas are very common.

That would be pretty bold, say holding back review copies to the official release rather than alpha? Not silly.

Agree with Agony Aunt about the pay for alpha thing hanging over from KS. Done to death but there are still enough people doing the alpha to test and in return they get a no-consequence alt account to experiment with and a skills headstart in the live game.

It is consistent with the community standards they enforce on the forums and protect in-game. But Yamiks has also been fairly consistent with his language, and despite him repeatedly asking if he’s blacklisted, he’s never been told yes until this incident, albeit with the answer coming in other words.

So why this and why now? We can’t say for sure, but in any case, I don’t think the language and political correctness of content creators is their responsibility to police, or should be their concern just because they communicate with them or throw them a bone every now and then. But cancel culture might say otherwise I’ll allow, even though Yamiks in particular has no actual affiliation with Frontiers creator program.

As far as I am aware he has never been blacklisted, he is free to play the alpha (after purchase) the same as the rest of us. Blacklisting would have involved having his account closed. As far as I am aware he was only refused a key, this not blacklisting.

No, but neither do they have any responsibility to support any individual content creator. In a fact, it isn't that rare that content creators have to buy the games they stream.

As it turns out, they may not be true. I think there was an event when the FSS was released and he wasn't invited to that either. As Antz above says, he hasn't been blacklisted, he will get Alpha, just not for free. He will make the video and FD won't strike it on YT.

He uses derogatory terms that some communities find completely offensive. FD don't want to look like they support that. You say police, I say they don't wish to be seen to support it. That is is their choice, their right and if it is true, one I support.

FD in so many words say that Yamiks does not align with the brand, and is excluded from the collaboration (for this launch at least). Yamiks is frustrated he is going to miss out on a big release (well, the big release for ED, and a lot hinges on it) which means that early click nectar flows to others.

FD could and should have been better at communicating why though- the later message should have been the first.

So why this and why now?

Two things probably. Firstly FD are in the same position as any creative, you have to do ALL the work first before you can recoup any of the arrears you accrue. I bet Odyssey wasn't cheap either, a major big deal in fact, company wise. The second is a bit more subtle I think than, 'they just want good reviews' although you could probably sum it up a bit like that. Like a girlfriend you start to take for granted until she threatens to leave, Yammiks professes to like ED really while he pounds away without a care in the world. But a major deal for the company - and future of the game - shouldn't be taken for ganted. Since kickstart I've always had it in the back of my mind that this ride could end any minute and I definitely don't want that to happen. Pretty sure that's where FD are coming from too.

I'm not sure about that actually. As it happens Yammiks painted himself into a corner in the period the messaging was vague (Y: It's a personal insult! FD updates: This is policy, it's not personal) and besides the people he's talking to are his acolytes already, rather than new people searching EDO for the first time because they saw it advertised somewhere.

I just watched a Yamiks YT vid this morning where he advised he received an official response from FD, turning him down when he requested an Alpha key to review Odyssey for his subscribers. Apparently they have limited Alpha keys reserved for their “ core content creators and the press”. He has 101k subscribers and is one of “THE” core content providers! He is not the largest but certainly in the top group. If this doesn’t send up a red flag about FD’s possible lack of confidence in their product I don’t know what does. Give the man a key! Yes he is more critical about the game than other creators but balanced reporting should be promoted.
He was rejected to get (free) Alpha access? ... LOL, really?! ... this "news" made me smile. All such YT kiddies think how importnat they are and suddenly reality kicks in.

Maybe he'll rethink his schtick.
I'm under no illusions about Yamiks- his ego was kicked in the soft bits when he was not deemed 'core', and set him off. The thing is with people like that you need to define your stance on content really well, because Yamiks sails close to the wind and will test the boundaries of whats deemed acceptable. This will be a test of character going forwards- he has to be careful to remain objective and separate out his grievances from the content he'll be reviewing.

No, they are selling alpha access to everybody.
You are correct, Frontier are selling Alpha access ... but not everyone has had to pay for it.
I am an LEP holder, and yes you can argue I have already paid for it, but the LEP literally means I paid for the expansions, not alpha testing phase of said expansion. I have access to that thanks to Frontier's generosity.

Yamiks asked for a review copy (his wording, not mine). Can you confirm anyone got a review copy? Or does everyone have the alpha at the same time? (in which case Yamiks's complaint is about getting something no-one else got)

All in all, this spectacle has certainly reminded me how deeply unpleasant the modern exposure and view based media ecosystem is. And I'm not talking about making jokes about masturbation.
To be frank I agree. I tuned into a stream that led into an offical FD stream and it was 20 minutes of begging and attention seeking.
