Horizons Glide transition is annoying

Why does it take so long to transition into the glide mode when landing on a planet? It really is annoying and spoils the whole effect. I mean, seriously, here you are hurtling along in a nice controlled descent when suddenly everything comes to as juddering halt and then some seconds later hey-presto there you are at the exact same position and start lurching forward again. Has the planetary landing suite got a TARDIS setting that stops time / neutralises all momentum and velocity during the transition to glide?

It really puts me off doing any surface missions.

Strange, my transition is virtual instantaneous between OC and Glide, even with other commanders around.

It has always been instantaneous for me as well, open or solo. It is a great instance transition mechanic.

I'm pretty sure your systems will dictate this. I'm right on minimum requirements and the transition on planets is usually about 5+ seconds. I'm guessing you both have decent rigs?

It doesn't bother me, anyway. I've been here since beta and I'm used to it.

I see no pause in transition, regardless of what is on the planet, and regardless of the planet size. I love the Glide sequence ! Aim for about a 30 degree glide slope to the planet port and it brings you within docking permission distance - no problems.

I reckon it's more down to the network topography/latency/server load. It varies greatly for me, from <1 second to 10+ seconds with no obvious pattern.

My guess is it is mostly this. When big updates drop and the servers get cranky I play mostly in solo to minimize load issues that seem to crop up as databases get reindexed and updated.

Also I have a 150mb line, that's probably helps too.

I knew that playing in Solo cut it to nearly nothing for most people, but I am surprised that anyone has consistently kept it short while playing in Open and I'm very curious what the secret sauce is. Do you happen to live in the datacenter?

I think its a great compromise and several billion times better than the "blue dot to massive station in a nanosecond" immersion breaker.

Glide may also work if you SC to another star system. That would also be tons better than arriving there only to find an empty hole where the star should have been.

Given a choice between no man's sky's 5 second walk from orbit to sat on the ground chewing a sandwich, I'd take ED's glide mechanic and subsequent impression of massive scale any day. I guess SC with ten times the budget of ED can get seamless transitions...

I don't experience the pause since upgrading my internet connection. It's super smooth and feels less like a "transition" to me now.

There should only ever be a delay if your dropping into a heavily populated instance. Dropping into an empty instance on a planet's surface is instantaneous, you literally shouldn't be able to see any pause or hitch between glide and surface flight.

Sadly I think the delay is a necessary part of getting everyone synced up over a peer to peer network. Last night dropping into "base camp zero" in Pallaeni took almost 30 seconds!

A wild guess...Planets with atmospheres are not online yet. When they arrive there is going to be a transition as we're going to be flying slower or burning up. Maybe this transition is part of what is to come.
