Going against your own word - "infiltrators" please note

You either get the comedy of the guy behind Zarek Null playing an inept villain like Skeletor from He-Man, or you dont.

"Getting it" and finding it funny are very different things. It's a very basic character, not that difficult to dissect. But the basicness of it completely detracts from the comedy value for me.

Except, as you just wrote, you dont get it, as to you its not about the comedy, but done 'to try and justify their online trolling via pseudo-LARPing'.

Based on what we've seen with DW2, it's an alternate universe with no He-Man to oppose him!

Funny enough, I have a question regarding this?

How many people here went into PVP going to play the "good guy" And then got crapped on by the community for involving themselves in PVP at all. Even if they were on the good side?

This is how it happened for me. I couldnt get anyone to help me or join me, and when I joined other groups that were meant for it. All they did was complain or try to get things removed, still saying people had over engineered ships.

This is why I eventually ended up friends with some of the bad guys out there. Why even try to be the good guy if you're going to get treated like crap for it.

Hell most of those "bad guys" taught me how to fight against them in GCI. Very helpful and good people in and out of the game. I wish people could learn to seperate that and just play the god damn game.

Well, there's more to it than my summary, but in essence it's a shtick to garner attention while having a pseudo-RP justification to troll other people online. The pseudo-comedy bit is integral to the attention-seeking.

But no, I totally do not get this super complex three-dimensional deep character.

Meh. If you say so. I'm aware of my real self outside of elite dangerous. I'm highly resilient in most ways that matter. Got my vices, but whatever. Forcing sensitive people on to their high horse may be one of them.

I'll admit I often challenge people's opinions and beliefs in the real world, but never in an aggressive way. Debate is important, without vilification. In person confrontation doesnt bother me one bit. I'm a good husband and father, and you'd VERY much likely call me a "good dude" if you knew me.

Right, that's nice and all except that I can't actually verify any of that. All I can see is how you behave on the internet and your stated motivations for doing so. Which, at this point, are rather infantile.

You guys really do think we're all a bunch of sadistic psychos irl dont you?

No, I don't think that and have in fact argued against that idea throughout this thread. I wouldn't call your behavior psychopathy or even sociopathy as those are specific diagnosis that requires far more than internet trolling behavior. At the same time, given that you admitted that you enjoy upsetting random people on the internet for no other reason than supporting your notion of being "emotionally resilient" I would say it's pretty safe to suggest that your own emotional development is in fact not particularly sophisticated or balanced. I'm sort of imagining the emotional equivalent of a large toddler yelling "GIB SALT" at the screen as they grief other players.

There are far more sophisticated reasons to engage in griefing and trolling behavior, including "roleplaying", "making the game more interesting" and "demonstrating areas the devs need to fix". You've claimed none of those as motivations however so I'm going to call it like I see it here. Not that I'm saying you're a "bad person" mind you, just that you are by your own admission engaging in infantile behavior due to what appears to be rather primitive emotional needs.

To be fair, lots of people asked for in game reasons.

It was like pulling teeth just to try to get people to understand powerplay needed to go that direction.

But instead, IRL DLC is what you guys wanted. A lot of people here fought every step of the way for PVP to have no meaning in the game.

This is the only meaningful PVP we have. And you want to take that away too?!?!

For shame!

I always wanted PvP to count for something in the game, I wanted open only BGS because people were undermining the minor faction I adopted in PG / Solo (never mind the console parallel galaxy) but the BGS has no in game reason to a player either, because nothing in the game acknowledges that you are part of a minor faction (even a player one) so I decided it was pretty pointless to pursue it.
The only reason in this game for PvP is for mutual fun or to mine salt, the only reason for someone to state otherwise on this forum is to mine salt and lets be honest, there is so much salt to mine here it can become addictive to some

I wont speak for the Overlord, but I believe his reasons have always been for comedic value. A lot of players enjoy it.

His speech before the beginning over Operation Tinman was motivating and funny. Way better than log in, haul from A to B for 2 hours, log out. A lot of people like that too. And that's fine.

On the bright side, the more people get discouraged, the more calls for an Open PvE mode. Alas it's to late for me as I have moved on. The Trolls have won. No more money to FD from me. Enjoy your victory.

I ask any one at FD, to please close my account on these forums as I can't see the point of it any-more. I'm making this request public to hi-light just one side effect of all this nonsense.

Thank you for your time, I wish I could say "it's been fun."

It's fine to enjoy different styles of "comedy" - it's not really universal.

Some people thoroughly enjoy watching Mall Cop, while others prefer The Big Lebowski (some might even enjoy both) - different strokes for different folks.

Primitive is a great description of what I'm talking about. "Infantile" might be a little off though. Adults have been crapping all over eachother since the proverbial "dawn of time". Infants dont really dominate and are incapable of griefing anything but their caregivers.

Never forget good sir, you're no saint. I dont know you, but we BOTH know that

Hahaha yea man. That's a fact. I'll never get the mall cop people. But they might have some wisdom to say. Who knows?

I agree the attention is the goal for a lot of this. The sad thing is of course is the more this happens the more people who will certainly move out of open or large PGs and just play with a few trusted members or solo or just move on to another game.
This is sad and hurts the game making evens like DW2 less popular and a side effect of PvPers whining evenore than they do already about how open is dead and the other modes need to go to help bolster open

I've seen nothing to suggest this is remotely true, and ample contrary evidence.

I was just being a smart, sorry dude.

I have never played a game that involved salt mining before. And basically its so easy in this game to do. Its really not hard because one of the greatest things about this game is it doesnt hold your hand. At the same time, because there is no real direction or explanation about certain elements of the game like powerplay, BGS. Hell this last patch they finally put a tag next to open private and solo explaining what you would get out of it from choosing them. I appreciate that. But it took 5 years.

This video represents it best I think.

Infantile is actually a rather good description and many types of emotional needs can in fact persist into adulthood for various reasons.

I'm sure that many people do far worse on a daily basis than online trolling behaviors, but that's not really the point. It's sort of like someone who takes up two parking spaces because they don't want anyone to scratch their car. Is that a "terrible" thing to do? No, but it's not considerate or well socialized behavior either.

You're correct in your comparison. It's really not that terrible. Definitely not considerate or well socialized, but dude, the reactions we see? They're truly amazing. People crying. People calling the ganker a "stupid n-word" or "I bet you take it up the *** irl you ******". Much more common than you'd think.

THIS, sir, is infantile. The disproportionate reactions to our inconsiderate crimes are insane! I blew up your silly spacecraft. Take it on the chin and move on. Dont give your assailant the satisfaction of insulting him. Trust me, he/she doesnt care and wants it in the first place
