Modes Going to solo mode

OK, just about had enough of getting ganked every other day in open now. So to the cmdr flying the FDL at Ceos congrats!!!!!!!!! One less cmdr in open, hope you enjoy the dwindling number of open players in game.

Why do you post this? You know they're just looking to mine salt, and you're giving it to them. Just go solo, don't talk about it. Everything else just gives them a thrill.

We're the same age. And it doesn't matter what you wear; it's just going to be the two of us:)

Hmm my legs are shaking and the hairs on the back of me neck just stood to attention...then again I got the runs on these new meds so Im hoping it not an alarm call to go take the throne fer 10 ^

See this here is just nonsense.

The players take the box and twist/subvert it to their own perversions, the builder could have put safeguards in (which they kind of did with modes... sorta) but the players have to take responsibility for their own actions.

Just because you can do something doesnt mean you have to or should do something, those are the players choice not the designer.

If the designer wanted to they could have made every player kill end up with both ships being blown up but in this case I think they probably thought people would not be such crass smegheads.

That was their folly. But to excuse player actions just because its possible is just plain stupid.

We all act stupid from time to time.
Safeguards would be PVE open, like the dozens of other mmos out there. Last night I got ambushed by my own son in Conan exiles. I deserved it. If I don't want PVP all the time I'll play in PG, Solo, Elder Scrolls Online or Guild Wars 2. Making the only Open offering PVP is a design choice by FDEV. The unfortunate thing is that many players have a Star Trek optimism about the future and come into ED expecting cooperative civility except when wanted or during wars. That is not what FDEV built. FDEV built the p2p gank box, with specific game mechanics to support ganking.

Ever read Battle Royal? I wouldn't blame the fighters killing each other over coins, I'd blame the builders of the electrified boxing ring that were sitting on the outside betting on the outcome of the brawl.

FDEV built the PVP open box, and did not build a PVE open box.

If I don't want PVP all the time I'll play in PG, Solo, ....

Talk about contradict yourself.

It cannot be a "PvP open box" when you have the option to not PvP.
It cannot even be a "gank box" because Frontier supplied tools to block people you don't want to interact with and still play open mode.

So either you don't understand the game, or you have some misconceptions about it.
Because my "Star Trek optimism" has held true for 4 years regardless of what mode I use (and yes, I use all 3 modes depending on mood).

So no, the game isn't a PvP gank fest - that is only a small option for how people may want to play the game if they choose and people choose to be the targets.
The moment people don't want to be your targets any more, you'll struggle for PvP and yet PvE'ers will never run out of things to do.

PvE game, with optional PvP.

Open mode has non optional PVP because you cant block everyone, and even if you do, you would need to die to them first.

It is very much a gank box, I can tell you from first hand daily experience :)

:D

For the sake of clarity, and the avoidance of doubt - I do not suggest or condone this - if you gitted gud enough - that would be entirely possible.

Many people are not gud gitted enough though.

Most MMOs have a PVE Open environment with pvp isolated to elective dueling, PVP match zones, or world vs. World PVP. The PVE environment in those games allows social interaction with the entire community, with the choice to participate in pvp. Games like Conan exiles, Day Z, or PVP dedicated servers in KOTR or other mmos establish in advance that the player is in survival mode.

Elite is odd in that the only dev-defined broad social interactive mode is survival. Once a new player becomes aware of options like Mobius (player created, not dev created), then a pve player can take advantage of that mode and pursue traditional pve mmo social interaction.

Do I think it is repugnant that people would use a game environment to inflict suffering on unsuspecting new players? - of course.

However, if there is "moral" responsibility to be distributed it sits squarely on the shoulders of the designers of the space. If a pve open mode were available, all of this "griefing and ganking" and personal attack forum / youtube strife would be simply absent.

FDEV has had 3 years to offer a legitimate PVE open and not rely on Mobius as a band-aide. The only reasonable conclusion to draw is that FDEV built the box we currently have by design. FDEV supports this style of game play.

The new C&P IMO will be prodded by people to determine how griefing and ganking can be still be executed without significant game interruption. In the same way that the first thargoid was eliminated far quicker than FDEV expected (resulting in an almost instantaneous nerf), so to will C&P be circumvented.

The only long term solution to prevent the "bad behavior" IMO will be a PVE open server. The actions of FDEV do not provide evidence that open pve will ever be part of the game. I further infer that FDEV somehow enjoys reading these "I'm heading to solo mode" threads - or else they would have offered what so many other mmos have offered to solve the problem.

Slightly wrong there buddy.

You can block everyone that shows on your scanner, and you only need to refresh your instance for it to take effect.
Which if I'm in SC and block you, guess what happens if you try to pull me over.

I get thrown into an empty instance and so do you.

(There was a spate of complaints on the forum over this a while back, as some thought it was people clog'in - but you get the same effect if someone has blocked you *before* the interdiction, as dropping out makes a new instance and the block rules apply)

Gentlemen, since Open forces no restrains upon your actions, in any regard, they can't be avoided.

So, in Open, You are a potential PvPer. Simpls.

Pro tip: You don't have to like it [uhh]

Jockey ninja'd you, so I'll quote him above, since he put it much better than I can.

Personally, I've started friending any good PvP pirates I encounter, so I'll be more likely to encounter them again. Never would have thought of that, if someone hadn't done it to me during my "Imperial Shield Inspector" experiment.

Haven't encountered any, but if I do, I'll be ready. ;)

Darkfyre99, admitted I am confused here. What do you mean?

Philosophical Question ...

if I step away from the PC while I am being shot at (to get some coffee or something like that) is that still considered PvP?

In other words, does my unsupervised space boat count as a Player?

I take it, to do something, even where you are, is an activity?
