Got Bounty for attacking wanted Ships!

Also these little ankle-biter bounties, that used to clear by waiting 10 minutes and high-waking, either need to go back to that or be reduced to fines. Or change the way the Fuzz aggro or something.

If you’re in a Hi-RES (or even a HazRES because of the occasional NPC Bounty Hunter) means you have to immediately get out of dodge, jump out, open your map and search for the nearest IF contact, fly there and clear the bounty. It interrupts the flow of gameplay and is unfun.

Nah, remember when you have a bounty and you get a bounty hunter wanting to make you 'pay for your crimes (lol)', they drop in behind you and open fire IMMEDIATELY. Since you are wanted, it is not a crime, any attack on you is considered to be an attempt to claim your bounty. As noted by all, this is not reciprocal. Somehow, an NPC that is wanted can report the crime of 'he didn't scan me first'. It needs fixing.

Please FDev, DON'T attempt to fix it!

I mean not the way I think you're gonna be most likely to do it (by adding a "scan detected" message before they start shooting at us).

Do it the right way! Disable the "report crime against me" function of wanted NPC ships, so that I can start shooting at them without scanning if need be.

Its even less fun if you don't have enough fuel to jump out (because you didn't anticipate you will have to). Happened to some people.

I agree, you should be able to take your chances, and if the ship is wanted, it isn't a crime.

Hello Commander Gorgoth!

You should not have to wrap your brain around the new crime system, as it functions almost identically to the old one in terms of how bounties are applied. It also sounds like you did everything correctly: you scanned the target and waited for the wanted status to appear.

Your attack should not have caused a crime. If this happens again, you should definitely submit a ticket.

As for your consequences: since you did not murder anyone your Notoriety will not have increased. Assuming it is zero, you can visit any Interstellar Factors and they will let you clear the bounty.

There is a bug report already about this sort of thing. Granted it's already on page 18 but it's there and hopefully seen... First guy got it from hitting the fighter that was launched, I however got it by simply shooting a wanted viper...

So I had something strange happen which Im not sure is related to the new crime system or not. So any feedback would be appreciated.

In a resource site, scanned a clean ship with the KWS, ship "changed" to wanted. Opened up and became wanted myself.
That is because the KWS exposes bounties issues by the non controlling factions. The controlling faction doesn't consider that ship wanted, and thus you opening fire on it, gives you a bounty with the controlling faction.

Thanks Cmdr

I dont remember being caught out like thst before, is it 3.0 C&P functionality or has it always been like that? Seems a bit daft if it doest give you the name of the faction.

I can't wrap my Brain around the new Crime and Punishment System. Did I encounter a new Bug or intended Feature?

My Story:
I took a wing mission to kill 10 Pirates in another system. I thought i would take them out alone with no problem. Fund that the mission marker was on a ringed planet with High RES, what seems to bee very convenient for bounty hunting. I scanned some ships and found a Gunship that was wanted and marked as mission target. Scan was finished, as i even took the time to subtarget the Drive. When i opened Fire i gained a Bounty of 200CR and some other ships turned red as well. I did not take the time to ask them what they wanted and left the area immediately. Back in Supercruise I logged out and came here.

So what are my consequences now? Did I get Notority points? Is Bounty hunting in some systems illegal? Can this mission type be completed in a legal manner?

Has happened to me. So much for C&P. :(

Even with Nav Beacons, this is SOP now. :(

Video anyone or even logs ? Asking because we see a lot of people complaining/accusing the C&P and NPCs instead of their lack of trigger discipline.

Have to second this. Since 3.0 dropped I've put myself in just about every normal situation where one could receive a bounty or fine (just by playing normally), and have yet to incur anything that wasn't deserved.

I've heard about these types of thing happening to lots of people, and I think it would be great if FDev would be a little more forthcoming with their response. Was this noticed in the Betas? Was a cause known, and attempted? Is the cause currently known? Is there an ETA on a fix, or is it even on their radar?

A lot of stuff was reported, some was fixed, others were going to be fixed in the live build. It's a significant change that affects quite a lot of different interactions, it's going to take some time to iron it all out.

Compared to previous occasions FDev have been pretty good at communicating on issues with 3.0. Have a look though here: ELITE DEV TRACKER to keep up to date with Dev comments.

So I payed off the bounty and completed the mission with out further problems. So maybe it was the SLF i hit. But I am fairly sure that there was no friendly in my line of fire.

THX for all the helpful replies!

You sure you don't want to freak out and rage quit? There's still time :)

What has happened twice? Shooting a wanted ship and getting a bounty, after scanning it and identifying it as wanted?

Without multiple independent bug reports, it's hard to believe, especially when it's so easy to accidentally tag another ship nowadays (happened to me on the first day of 3.0, a missed PA shot went 5km before hitting a clean ship and getting me a bounty. To add insult to injury, another NPC killed it a few seconds later and I got the murder rap, for ONE single stray large PA round.)

If you refer back through the source material for the post (sometimes a shame that quotes no longer stack) what happened twice is that I got Wanted/Bounty for shooting a SLF as it spawned from the already scanned and Wanted NPC I was fighting with.

You can believe me or not but it happened, I watched it happen twice.

I had a similar experience last night in a RES, scanned the ships, showed as wanted. Scanned their buddies/others, KWS, all still wanted so proceed to take out the biggest threat (typically wanted fighting eachother as was in a Haz RES). Get reckless weapons discharge notification and a fine, even though there's nobody else around but myself and these two wanted dudes, didn't hit my SLF either.

Shrugged it off as was in combat.

Second time it happened, same instances, except this time I was targeting one of the two wanted guys and noticed I was targeting a different one than the one I let a volley of rails at after I got the fine. Could've sworn I was targeting the one I shot at, but hey. So it seems to be linked also to them not being targeted maybe? Hence you got slapped with it for hitting the SLF.

I had it happen a third time, but again could've sworn I was was targeting my opponent.

In all instances, I'd scanned, then KWS'd the targets, all were wanted and ample time was given after the KWS, the only thing in common was that I'd scanned surrounding ships before switching back to my intended target. I can 100% say that in each instance, no clean or unscanned ships were within range to get tagged.

In all instances I proceeded as planned and got my bounty and no further fines for firing on my intended target.

Naturally I had to find an Interstellar Factors.

I received another random bounty last night after attacking a wanted ship in Haz Res. Again, the ship had deployed a fighter and the bounty was 200cr.
