GPU Upgrade

Google 'PC Power Requirements' and you will get a variety of hits from both manufacturers and parts suppliers which allow you to put in your PC Build state and will recommend a suitable PSU:

FWIW, I used to work at an OEM and I ran my own business many years building custom PCs. All I wanted to point out is that a blanket recommendation from a GPU manufacturer is unlikely to be very precise and fit every use case.. The actual power needs of the system will most certainly depend on the rest of the system. Also power supplies do wear out and computers can superficially appear to be working while actually being less stable than they should be due to a deficient power supply.

I don't want to claim that I'm right, but IMO things can be a bit more complex than they appear on the surface.. ;)

Edit: And a deficient PS can also cause performance loss when system components detect that they aren't getting the power needed.

Exactly my point, check a PSU requirements site where you can factor in board type, memory, drives etc and you should get ballpark. When building I tend to check a few, then average, then go up a step or two for max peak requirements and a bit of futureproofing.

That said - apologies to the OP as his somewhat innocent question has sparked discussion away from his original question regarding upgrading his GPU. Think somewhere he says he does not wish to upgrade the PSU.

Sometimes, bad PSUs can really create interesting problems. Many years ago, my dad's computer would sometimes (only sometimes!) not recognise the HD. My brother and I went over the system with a fine-tooth comb, checking connections, boot master record, everything we could think of. We even hauled it to a PC repair shop, where the dude in charge told us that "micro fractions on the mainboard might cause this issue."
One day, I had enough, pulled out the LC Power "Scorpio" PSU and plugged in an Antec PSU (380W as compared to 460W, but my dad's PC was not power hungry), just because that was just about the only thing my brother and I had NOT swapped out.

LO AND BEHOLD, my dad's computer ran PERFECTLY after that. No more HD problems, or any problems.

Goes to show that the PSU is a VITAL part of any PC build, and skimping on the quality might result in some very interesting (and difficult to track down!) issues. Taught me a valuable lesson (okay, so the PSU that literally went up in flames the first time I switched on my PC also taught me that, but I digress...).

Hey guys,

Quick question here,

My rig
rtx 3060 12 gb
Amd ryzen 5 4500 u

I can’t get fully 60 fps on concourse or starports.

They are banging around 30-60 but not constant any advice ?

Play on pre setting ultra

I can play Forza 5 on ultra and there is no framedrop or a increase of my cooling system

Wow lots of interesting information thanks. Im currently looking into 3070 not sure about the difference between a 3070 and 3070ti. 3080 and 3090 sound good. Im using a 650w psu i dont want to upgrade psu unless I really have to. I want to get into dcs aswell I seem to be able to run that ok in vr but not perfectly so upgrading ram to 32gb is also something im looking to do (after graphics card) ill probably just buy the same sticks again. I also come from PSVR which is pretty outstanding really so in terms of VR Im mainly looking to upgrade the image quality with my quest 2. I seem to have elite running at about 70 ish frames in space and on foot (not on foot combat zone) and about 24/30 in stations. The picture quality is good but could definitly be better. The super sampling slider and HMD image quality slider seems to be were its at for getting a compromise between visuals and performance. I can get a really good image with one of them up (cant remember which) but it drops me to below 30.
My specs-
i7 6700k @ 4.6GHz, DD4 @ 2900MHz and 650W PSU (EVGA G3) and I upgraded from my RX 580 to an RX 6800 XT. The RX 6800 XT I bought from a miner on ebay for £485 (plus £10 shipping). I've included some screen grabs with the 6800 XT installed if it helps. The GPU has been undervolted and the MHz lowered slightly. Note the power draw.

Will this be enough FPS for you? (1440p ultra settings) and your platform is newer/better than mine so should eke out more performance.

And here is one from a more demanding area-

See what you can get new for £500. It's up to you but be careful if you buy second hand from ebay.
Hope this helps
