FWIW, I used to work at an OEM and I ran my own business many years building custom PCs. All I wanted to point out is that a blanket recommendation from a GPU manufacturer is unlikely to be very precise and fit every use case.. The actual power needs of the system will most certainly depend on the rest of the system. Also power supplies do wear out and computers can superficially appear to be working while actually being less stable than they should be due to a deficient power supply.Google 'PC Power Requirements' and you will get a variety of hits from both manufacturers and parts suppliers which allow you to put in your PC Build state and will recommend a suitable PSU:

I don't want to claim that I'm right, but IMO things can be a bit more complex than they appear on the surface..
Edit: And a deficient PS can also cause performance loss when system components detect that they aren't getting the power needed.
