Graphics Need Updating

One point that the OP raised was that if you Google for Elite Dangerous Screenshots then older images from Alpha and Beta come up first. Maybe FD need to try and optimise some of their search results (perhaps using some of the snaps in this thread!).
Personally I like the graphics, although someone who was big into their PC graphics wasn't too happy with the AA options.

Did you custom colour your text..?
Cos I'm using "Elite Orange" forum Theme.. and I can't read your post..

odd..

I'm pretty sure he copy/pasted it from the reddit where he tried the same trolling...

People there didn't fall for it, but here... This place is full of troll feeders.

Now that is something that needs improving, but it's not unique to ED unfortunately. It seems jaggies have come back with a vengeance, and even in something like ED x4 DSR and SMAA still doesn't eliminate jaggies on the letterbox, outpost pylons, the blue neons on the Clipper etc.

That really would be appreciated, but I'm not holding my breath as no developer seems to have nailed it yet.

As someone who can remember playing doom on a reduce screen size just to get an acceptable play experience I am constantly aghast at the youth of today complaining about graphics.....some of you wouldn't know bad graphics if it bit you on the butt!

I can also remember being awestruck by Manic Miner on the Spectrum....AWESTRUCK BY IT!!

ENJOY the games for christsakes!!

Well at least the OP gave us a reason for another screenshot thread (some very nice pics have been posted already) ;)
I am not exactly a specialist for game graphics but I do like ED's graphics very much!
Especially the light in this game is stunningly beautiful!

Ships and stations look very different according to the colour of light from their star or even form their closest planet.
The visuals of the cockpit changes when passing stars and other stelar bodies.
You can go from very bright lighting to deep dark shadows when sneaking behind a planet or moon.
And look how the light spreads through the atmosphere of some planets when the star is just rising above them!

Stuff like that always leaves me amazed...

Okay. I guess any opinion that conflicts with yours is automatically wrong, yeah? Like I said, the graphics are poor in comparison to the games being released today.

Ying and Yang... BF2 ... recent ?... get out of here

Negative answers are allowed... don't like... don't post... is really lame

Sure, they should work out dynamic lightning for celestial bodies (non-existent, atm) and to try to simulate interaction between them (result: objects we're currently missing like contact binaries, cataclysmic variables, black holes feeding on accretion disk, etc). Also, adding more variety to stations and their interiors wouldn't be bad. But other than that graphics is generally very good - it should be the least of our worries, IMHO.

There certainly are a bunch of things FD need to enhance and fix in the GFX department, rings around planets disappearing when going into or coming out of SC is one of my biggest issues.

They should add in controls to change contrast and colour, maybe add in some filters like chromatic aberration, this would remove the need for sweetFX for the most part.
(ive stopped using sweet FX now, i found that every version was trying to do dodgy stuff in the background on my network(sometimes killing my internet altogether))

there is a lack of hue variance especially on gas giants, some of the textures really do look 1 or 2 colour blended. Trouble is , this is probably quite realistic, if you look at real photos of Uranus (haw haw) you see its pretty flat in hue and texture.

Stars feel like they should be a LOT brighter, especially up close. There seems to be a lack of light that they actually emit. The star looks bring , but what its hitting with its light dosnt seem to look bright enough.

The ships , stations and all the tech look pretty great (even if i think the ship designs mostly all look very similar.

The metal and rock rings around planets could do with a bit of love, they again, look very uniform, with no Large chunks randomly floating about and the range in which the actual models turn to a LODed backdrop is far too close.
Ice rings on the other hand look really nice, i think the ice even uses a translucency trick in some places which is great.

Generally things are good, like the whole game, it needs some pollish.

There is only one problem with the graphics, and that is the lack of support for proper antialiasing. (FXAA/SMAA/whatever are better than nothing but frankly rubbish, and downsampling slows things down way too much unless you're running GTX980s in SLI or something.)

This is my only complaint with the game so far. Hate on me as much as you like, but when you compare this games graphics to that of modern games that are being released around the same time I can't help but feel disappointed.

Just look at the mess you made of your post text, your graphics chops are not up to the criticisms you are making.

Since they are using deferred lighting (as they should), this one is VERY difficult to fix. Its not impossible to implement something like MSAA to the game, but don't get your hopes up for the immediate future.

The second problem with AA is a graphics design one. ED uses big drawing distances and the scaling of small lines from one LoD to the other (in a structure for example that is 2miles long, 10miles away and moving towards your point of reference at 600+ miles per hour) is not that easy as it sounds.

Elite Dangerous looks great, Granted you are using old screenshots, do you even have the game?
I mean why wouldn't you use screenshots you took yourself?

Elite looks great, the style of ships and such might be something that could be argued you do not like, and like those from for example star citizens more, but other then that I really cannot see how you can say Elite doesn't look great.
