Graphics Need Updating

The graphics are fine. In fact the graphics are one of the things that wows people whenever I show them the game. Even severe myopia wouldnt excuse OPs ignorance, even low end hardware can do better than he showed. It HAS to be pure trolling. Therefore, *plonk*

There are things that might be considered wrong with ED, but graphics sure as hell isnt one.
This game is far beyond as beautiful it really needs to be.

Agreed that right now, content needs more work than graphics.

I will say that the game is meant for resolutions above 1440 and on small (24" and smaller) monitors. The jaggies are awful outside these specs, even with 1.5 SS. Although, they are only an issue around/inside stations, the HUD, orbit lines, and the windscreen pillars of the cockpit.

Since they apparently can't "fix" this problem with AA, maybe they should have designed the graphics so jaggies would be less apparent (contrast?). It seems they just relied on >1440 res and small monitors.

Guess we could just turn this into a screenshot thread. Are words really needed?

Dunno Op, looks pretty good to me. I will give you the rings though. They need some randomization.

the only thing i'd want to change is the LoD distance (maybe customisable via slider in Options?)

in every other respect ED looks great to me, and i've been looking at it every day since day one

Okay. I guess any opinion that conflicts with yours is automatically wrong, yeah? Like I said, the graphics are poor in comparison to the games being released today.

Absolute rubbish. I also happen to play Star Citizen and ED graphics are of the same quality, albeit SC graphics are somewhat glossier which is more of a style thing. You need either a new pair of eyes, a better graphic card or a look at some up to date screenshots set to high quality.

NMS looks garbage compared to Elite. Or rather a very different style of graphics, certainly not on par with Elite at all. SC wont be out for a while yet and even when it is I had the demo and I maxed it out and I wasn't blown away, that's not to say I was by Elite but to say Elite looks bad is just silly.

Also every picture you linked is from Beta, I find that kind of funny.

From a distance the graphics look the same in ED and SC, but its when you get really close to objects that you see the extra detail in SC. FDev have a lot of work to do to make the close up textures for the ships and stations ready for walking around stations.
.
For an example, use the debug camera to get really close to the wording on your ship exterior, then in your SC hanger look at the outside of your ships, the hanger floor and the storage boxes too. The close up LOD in SC is crazy!
.
That being said, as ED stands at the moment as a cockpit limited space game, the textures are more than adequate. :)

I know I'm going to get down voted by the fanboys, but....

troll warning!

now this is exactly what is the worst part of elite, so many people making this kind of remarks evry time they have something negative to say about the game. cant make valid critique without deliberatly insulting others.
a really great way to make your very first forum post by starting with insulting anyone who might not agree with you, gj OP!

other than that, i do agree that graphics can be improved... it can always be improved, no matter how good it is. but it already does look good, it does not look bad at all.. and no way near that 10 year old game OP wants to compare elite with. to claim so is just another attempt of trolling imo

Well, if we could have a graphics update without having to drop £500+ on hardware updates I would be in but tbh as is the game rocks so far as graphics are concerned as I see it.

I dissagree entirely, I haven't played for a couple of weeks now, and its nothing to do with graphics. In fact I haven't even STARTED to play properly yet because there are so many gamplay mechanics that need to be fixed/implemented first, such as the ability to actually Bounty Hunt/Pirate/mine properly

As far as i'm concerned there are far too many gameplay issues to be resolved before anyone starts to worry about improving a bit of 'eye candy'.

A very dishonest post from the OP cherry picking Alpha and Beta screenshots to try and make a point.

Whilst an argument can be made that the graphics of other upcoming space games may be visually more appealing to some, to compare ED graphics to BF2 is ridiculous.

Yeah, theres a couple of those stations, though I haven't come accross one myself. On a side note; the gamma level on that screenshot is offensive to my eyes!

My settings aren't that high :) I needed shades when I flew in there - these stations are amazingly bright. At first I couldn't even see the dock numbers.

Graphics aren't bad. It just looks a bit.....dead sometimes. But FD is doing a good job keeping it quite "realistic".
With post process injectors like SweetFX things will look alot more alive.

It's just how fast we get accustomed to graphics, sound etc. When I first launched my ship from station I thought graphics were really good. Seriously, good graphics mean a lot to me. But now it doesn't feel that good anymore cause I have seen it all. I am using post processing now and I can assure you that after a while I'll get accustomed to that also. Just like good movies with great post processing spoils our sensed and other movies are looking like crap after that. I say graphics are just fine while waiting 1.3. People are going to have this same conversation with SC after they have played it a while.
