@NisseNeutron if you've really, genuinely always been attacked every single time you've ever played in open, then I can only assume that you've chosen only to visit open at CGs - or maybe the old starter system.
I've played almost entirely in open since the game launched - I meet
loads of cmdrs - I've very rarely been attacked, and it was never a surprise when it happened. I actually suffered my very first 'pvp death' at the CG last weekend - to an Operation-Ida friend who was blowing up Type-9s. It wasn't griefing, because I know what to expect at CGs, and so they're the
only place that I'm ever not in open if I don't fancy the risk.
If you want to meet up with friendly players in open, then try joining in with community activities that are organised by other players, rather than by FDev. I participate in Buckyball races and Operation Ida station repairs in open mode and have only had enjoyable interactions with other players. There's still
always a risk though, whenever you see a hollow contact. I enjoy it, but if you don't want that risk then don't play in open. The risk is minimal though if you stay away from obvious danger spots, basically Shinrata, a couple of engineer systems and whichever system FDev are telling players to concentrate.
If you play with the right attitude, it's actually impossible to be "griefed" in Elite Dangerous. I love open mode, and most of my ships don't even have guns, so it's certainly not impossible to survive.
