Grind instead fun. Why?

The need to grind is aided and abetted by FD. If you participate in a CG, you are rewarded by how high the total of the CG goal gets and placing in upper percentage player rank.

If you were to do it w/o re-log, well, the results are obvious.

PP is a time sink, I stopped playing mainly due to merit decay, which is meant to be a way of keeping you in PP to reap the "rewards" but had the totally opposite effect on me. I don't like to lose what I worked for again and again. Sisyphus comes to mind.

Engineering at least gives you permanent results that are "rewarding", but unless you were lucky rolling, the ultimate "rewards" were kept out reach, so you made due w/ good enough (except for the cheaters).

With the new engineering, we're back to before engineers were created, modules for everyone with fixed top values w/ experimental effects added but w/ grind. Why not give us set, no-grind modules back and just work for the experimental effects?

The grind is integral to game play on purpose, sure, you can opt out and be selective, but even that seems like you're adjusting to the symptoms, but the cause is not addressed.

Sorry, but is not aided and abetted by FDev. There is no need to participate in a CG. It is a choice, just like PP is. If you want to grind these things, the choice is yours, FD do not force that on you.

There may be no need to participate in a cg, but by the same logic there was no need for the cg in the first place.
At least try to come up with a proper argument.

How is that the same logic?

I did. Sorry that you can't see it. I am begining to think that people have been so ingrained with the grind mechanic over the last 10-15 years that they do no know how to play in any other way when it is presented to them.

Yup totally logical, just dont ever play the game at all and you will never have to grind it. Mines still in the plastic wrapper and i live a great grind free lifestyle, only a fool would actually install the game. I got this tip of reddit.

Riiighhht. So by not doing a CG stops you from playing the game. Yup, totally logical. I didn't realise the CG's and powerplay are the only things you can do in ED.

I must have been playing a completely different game for the last three and a bit years. Whats also funny, when I started playing there was no such thing as a CG or powerplay.

RE my post. If somethings in the game, expecting people not to participate in it is dumb, especially if it’s story related and they give rewards other than credits (like ship discounts, and thus rebuy discounts),

I don't have a problem with people who grind, it just gets silly when they complain that they are doing it...

Why is it dumb?

It would seem that some look at games 'only' to win? As apposed to having fun ... I seriously believe, each to their own (within a certain range) as they choose to play as their is no direct competition outside rollplay or possibly PvP.

And players may complain on any subject at times, to include myself. I would not let it bother you.

My friend's wife hated losing when playing board games. He attitude was "what's the point of playing if you're not going to win". Eventually she stopped playing them with us. Then she got mad because we were having fun without her. Some people will never be happy I guess. My friend divorced her a long time ago. He remarried next year and his new wife is a wonderful person.

perspective helps answer questions.

If you knock a 500g packet of rice crispies all over your kitchen floor, it might be fun picking up each and every one individually for say, the first 50.. but after that, you'll soon start to shovel arm fulls in the bin... because it's quicker, and picking up each and every one individually wastes time, isn't fun, and serves to stand in the way of what you want to be doing. No one wants to voluntarily do something that takes 200x longer, when there's a quicker alternative. Fun is as subjective as doing something properly and unnecessarily.

Maybe if the actual task of collecting them was an engaging, and fun and unique experience, folks may put up with it for the first batch.. but after that... once you have seen it and been there, doing the same old... gets old. It's just a blocker at that point which people just need to get over.

This perspective is very good, however you forgot to mention that the game doesn't throw out the rice to the floor, instead you are given a plate and a spoon, but some players prefer to drop it to the floor and whinge about having to picking up one by one because the spoon doesn't work.

See? perspective helps.

But people can participate in different ways, there is no need to be the best, no need to be the first, no need to finish in 1h and no need to do it.

The problem is when people wants the same with different actions, specifically the same with just no action.

What I find funny is how people now can't fly without a ship fully engineered (900 rolls!!! grind fest!!) or even A Rated (A Rated? who needs a fully A Rated ship????? money!! rebuy grind!!!!), then the argument starts: if you want to be competitive with the PVP gang (which doesn't necessarily make you competitive just a better sparring) so the argument of 'there is no other way to be competitive' can change from ED needs to change or the game will die or they will stop playing the game, repeated like a mantra from the same people year after year.

OP. Like you, I don't understand why someone would play a game for hours and hours doing the same thing over and over, then complain that they don't enjoy it. If I don't enjoy playing Elite, I stop and do something else. Sometimes it's after 5 minutes, other times, 5 hours.

It would be true if there wasn’t a better reward for the top few percent. If people aren’t intended to grind like that, then such rewards wouldn’t be there in every cg.

Where is your problem with that?

Those who want to be first and best and who enjoy spending their time doing the same thing over again will be first. The others not. Does it only make sense to participate in a CG when you are the first? Isn't that your personal issue rather than the issue of the game?
