I would love to know what devs think about this thread. It just keeps going and there is an obvious split in the player base. All be it within the small amount of people that attend the forums.

Only on the internet could the absence of something be seen as evidence of intent to introduce that very thing.

Roll on 1.3 and Powerplay announcement!

:D

Wow, the ranting, bile-spitting and demands from some members here insisting Elite wont survive without guilds seems to perfectly demonstrate why they shouldn't be in the game.

I'm so glad the Frontier are making the game Frontier want to play not the one the guildies demand they make.

It is clear that emotions are running high here, so before you post consider how your words will be read. You could, of course, go and enjoy yourselves playing the game rather than attacking each other on the forums causing you to get angry and upset.

Take this as due notice that infractions will follow for insulting, baiting, sniping etc.

Excellent troll post. Given that frontier seem to be supporting player groups on galnet, and they are giving us more social functions and grouping options with each update, I think you will find the game they want to make is in line with the game us "guildies" want to play. Sad day for you :)

Its a very good point.

No one claimed the game would fail without better group support.

But how can we "enjoy the game" when it is so dangerous out there in Open?

Ugh... I've been out for few hours and this threadnaught grew 20 new pages. Where was I? Ah, yes... bring us guilds and guild mechanics, FDEV! ;)

If this was about the mechanical support for a simple guild framework in the Elite universe, this thread would be much shorter. This is about features bundled with guilds elsewhere, and as such never meant to work for this title as it stands. This is bound to grow in all directions, for the roots have been buried long ago...

He didn't say mmo he said Massivley Multiplayer...which it is.

Okay, so it's a massively multiplayer game without being a massively multiplayer online game. That's quite a departure. I wonder how they do that?

You're serious? Frontier calls it as such on the Steam page, on their website, and on the original Kickstarter. They also call it a sandbox on the Kickstarter.

Actually it says MMO (pointing upwards) on the Steam page but I'm pretty sure that Steam categorised it that way not FD because it isn't an MMO (or even massively multiplayer) and I'll come back to that. I can't find any mention of "multiplayer" on ED's website can you show me the context of what it says please? I also think we should just step past the Kickstarter now. It's been kickstarted and now it's released.

It is a multiplayer game, of course, but it's not a "massively" multiplayer game in any real sense. The numbers of players in any one instance are very limited.

So being able to organize groups within the game fits with the game, but having in-game tools to make that organization easier does not?
I would like better organisation of groups in Group mode, but not in Open mode. There is no conflict there, Open and Group are two different things. I would like Mobius (to choose a well-known example) to be able allow others control of his group or even separate the group from Mobius entirely so that if Mobius stopped playing that group could continue. Players could join without having to friend Mobius (that must be a pain in the backside for him and his comms panel must be permanently lit up like a Christmas tree). That is not the same as having tools to organised groups in Open play.

You already acknowledged that organized groups exist in Open play and said yourself that they fit with the game.

Yes, I think they do, in concept, precisely because they are limited in scope and power by the lack of organisational tools in the game.

I figured as much.
Good for you.

So your sole reason for opposing a feature that could improve the game for a lot of people is based entirely on sentimentality?

My sole reason for opposing the feature(s) proposed here is that I don't believe they fit into the world of Elite.

Yeah, well was misquoting the argument on purpose. However, this game is what it is. It isn't a MMO by the ideas of the genre, but many thousands of people 'fighting' over a star system, yeah that has happened. In anyone's books that Massively Multiplayer. It just happened in instances of no more than 32 players. It also happened across Open, Solo, and Private Group. It would have been a lot easier if there were even temporary ways to manage this vast group of people in game. Whether through social guild mechanisms, or some other wizardry within the game. That's my whole point within this discussion.
