Gutamaya vs core dynamics

I'd say Core Dynamics would win most of the time.

Simple reason : they've built plenty of highly dedicated Combat Vessels.

Gutamaya so far hasn't produced a single such dedicated Combat Vessel. Instead they're all quite capable MultiRole Ships.
(the closest thing to a dedicated Gutamaya Combat Ship is very likely the Imperial Courier.... this little beast can very easily hold itself in Combat despite its small size even in very hostile environments)

Taking one or two vipers away from the radius of the pack then getting your whole fleet pile into them, do as much damage as they can and then get the hell back out into a wide radius as their CDC team mates catch up is that I meant by running away. Dodge about for a bit and then do it again. Keep out of the way of the corvettes, and hope you have enough ships left at the end to gang up on the corvettes. Still think CDC would win though.

Nah, the orcas and belugas will be too busy hanging outside of the asteroid belt taking selfies and worrying if the added space dust might mar their paintwork. Lets be honest here, the SK ships are the equivalent of the 21st Century SUV's. Sure most SUV's can technically go off-road but only a very small percentage of them will ever do that. Same with the SK, sure you can fit weapons to them, sure a very small minority will take them into combat but the vast majority won't, they just really aren't built for it :D
Its like a mom buying an suv ready made for offroading and not using it

A difficult matchup for both sides as far as I can see, although I'd have to give it to CD overall.

For small ships, although the iCourier is a pretty solid fighter and is widely used in PvP because of its greater utility thanks to more weapon mounts, the Vulture is still very much the king of the heavy fighters thanks to its very strong distributor and oversized shield generator (even if the absolute shield value isn't much better, the Vulture has much better regen than the iCourier). The Vulture also benefits from larger individual hardpoints, so it isn't restricted to specific weapons in order to take down enemy hulls.

Medium ships again go to CD because of the effectiveness of the FGS coupled with FAS support. The Clipper is a solid ship, but it can't hull tank nearly as well as the CD mediums, as well as lacking in most respects other than outright speed compared to the FGS (FGS has both greater firepower and greater potential utility on hardpoints as well as having a SLF). Ultimately, all the medium pilots would have to be quite careful in such an engagement though, as they are relatively large targets but are not significantly tougher than the small ships; a fair amount of the outcome would rely on trying to keep the mediums alive so they can continue contributing (particularly FGSs, as they can support with their SLF from very long ranges even if the ship itself is in poor condition).

For the large ships, the Cutter is notably tougher than the Corvette while the firepower award goes to the Corvette. However, the degree of extra shielding afforded by the Cutter is greater than the firepower increase on the Corvette; if it turns into a matchup of distributor-limited facetanking then the Cutter would win simply due to its large shield capacity. Obviously, they wouldn't just facetank, but even in terms of ability to avoid fire they are not too dissimilar, with the Corvette having the greater maneuverability and ability to remain on target, while the Cutter has the speed to not get caught out and to escape tricky situations. Overall, I'd say that the Cutters have the Corvettes beat simply by virtue of being a bigger, tougher ship rather than any particular specialisation or quirk.

Ultimately, I see CD's heavier firepower, particularly in the small and medium categories, stripping away the small and medium Imperial ships quite effectively. Once it is basically just the Cutters left, their prodigious shielding would simply prolong the inevitable as they are left outnumbered by the Feds. Even if durability is important in a 1v1 matchup, in a team battle it just consigns a damage sponge to be ignored for the first half while struggling to contribute as the enemy forces leave them until last. The Feds, with their greater firepower and ability to stay on target, would be quite adept at killing off the Couriers and Clippers early in the battle.

Sure most SUV's can technically go off-road but only a very small percentage of them will ever do that.

Technically every vehicle is off-road capable. The real question is how many of them will return from such endavour.

Answering OP - I'd say it depends on pilot skills

I think both sides would need prior explanatory training, drill practice and a good command structure. The CDC side's battlefield strategy would have to maintain discipline and they would have, essentially two attack types, immediately after which they are slightly vulnerable.

Remember that even the cutter is a fast ship. So, the first type of attack would be to encircle (best chance of at least a few ships catching up with the target, even if it changes course as they are boosting towards it), then assemble into a wedge formation and charge at it (keeping together during the charge) from sideways on, get underneath, disperse, flip, target and fire, then leave, regroup and try again. The second strategy they would have would be to draw some of the small and medium ships away and then attack them - one vutlutre to accelerate out towards them, so that the Gutamaya pack will charge at it, fa off, flip and boost away as the Gutamaya converges on it (empty fortress strategy), and the CDC charge the Gutamaya pack ina wedge formation.

I think the difficulty in predicting is that most of the fighting would not be ship vs ship (like in PVP); but, rather. It would depend on communication from generals and group captains throughout, and prior time spent learning military discipline and team strategy would probably have the larger effect on the outcome.

The title of this thread conjures up images of a brick (core dynamics) being thrown into a plate of Jelly (gutamaya). So yeh, that's how it would go. To explain why could take anything from 2000 to 6000 words, but bottom line is core dynamics are combat focused, whereas gutamaya ships are all rounders. The relative number of hardpoints and capacitor sizes make it not a contest.

This seems like a no contest to me, with core dynamics winning. Given Equal number of S/M/L on each side, the CDC could just have all S/M ships take down the cutters while the Vettes mop up eagles couriers and clippers.

I think Cutter might have an edge on the vette in a 1v1, but in a mixed unit, the speed disadvantage becomes less of a deciding factor

Oh?

Really?

Huh.

I'd have never known.

I’m picturing vettes focus firing cutters using cytoscramblers and huge multis, but may not even need to bother with cytos vs their massive shields. Huge PAs are an option too. Even huge beams long range.

There are so many variables to consider. It’s actually pretty interesting to think about.

I actually had a very different picture in mind...

Two Wings of 4 Imperials ships, plus one wing of 2 pick a place...
Two Wings of Federal ships, plus one wing of 2 heading for the same place...

They drop in together and...

4 Imperial ships and 5 Federation ships appear in one instance, 3 Imperial ships and 2 Federation ships appear in another, and the remaining ships spawn into their own instance.

They try again, the numbers get juggled around, so they try again, and again, and again, and finally give up.

SK ships are the equivalent of 21st century SUV's. With a bull-bar.
Whatever obstacle life will put on your path, your Orca or Beluga will just ram it out of the way.
