ANNOUNCEMENT Hello World! Issues with the new forum? Please post here.

Hello, I have changed the theme to mobile and I can't find the settings button to change it back, pls.

Edit: I logged out and logged in again and know it's ok.

Select the Elite Theme, from the dropdown menu in the bottom left of the screen (or your setting menu)

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!
Feel embarrassed I missed that one )

I'm happy with the rest of the redesign, aside from one detail; When logging out all cookies are being cleared, including the chosen theme cookie.
Since setting a theme preference can be done both as a logged in user and as an "anonymous" user (non-authenticated), it would seem prudent if that cookie would be omitted from being cleared.

Unlike the old design, I can't easily look at a post and see how many posts the poster has made and when they joined. Am I missing something simple?

No link to FD's official Twitch channel in the top bar, you have all your other social outlets there. May be handy if the official broadcasts go ahead as per Ed's thread the other week.

The server seems very frequently overloaded after the introduction of the new layout. Is that pure chance, or is the new layout more heavy on the backend?

Also, I really appreciate the addition of the badge that signals if a frontier employee has posted in a thread, but it would be great if instead of just signaling there are "23" employee posts buried somewhere in the thread, you could also make it easier to find those posts.

Illustration of the problem:

View attachment 540

Currently a reader is required to traverse all 1402 posts in order to read what frontier has written on the subject, wasting both the reader's time, but also putting undue load on the forum server when clicking through all the pages in search for the golden eggs. (perhaps that's why it's overloaded so frequently?)

Would it be possible to have the link the badge is attached to point to a page that only lists the employee posts, with hyperlinks back to the #post<no> anchor in the actual thread (if a reader needs more context) ?

At present when clicking a badge, the reader ends up on the first employee post in the thread. That same mechanic could be leveraged from a "dev post view" to provide the same kind of in-thread discussion context when the reader can't figure out the context for the employee's reply, but instead of linking just to the first post, linking to the actual corresponding post.

There should be a link in the top-right of each dev post to go to the next dev post. There are plans to for a dev tracker, but it'll be a while before we can focus on that.

Server Load Averages 0.51 0.32 0.15 | 3,615 Users Online (999 members and 2,616 guests)

Server load is actually lower, with more users on these forums on Vbulletin4.

I'll keep an eye on the server load.

1. Presume it's been mentioned, but just in case: search function doesn't allow for results to be displayed as single posts. For me this renders it largely useless.

2. Subscribed Threads not available from search results page (i.e. Quick Links menu not available) - a small thing but annoying.

3. Mobile theme: cannot view New Posts.

4. New Posts button flows over to next line when the window is less than about 1000px and zoomed in a bit.

Some feedback regarding Private Messages: the interface is even worse than before with this version. Not only the "Reply To All" option is missing, but now it's not even possible to see if the received message was sent only to me or to other people as well.

Brett, many thanks for implementing this ad hoc. Most helpful, sir!

I found how to get it to work for me with Chrome.

Go to settings tab (up right hand corner of screen on forum page).

Inside the settings page go to the general settings sub tab using the menu on the left of the screen...

Scroll down almost to the bottom of the page and select :

Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing

Hope this helps !

I have removed the colour from that last line as black on dark gray really does not work!

Anyway can't post using Firefox v33 on W7 at work. This is using IE which is only on my PC for others to use when I am away. The fix above DOES NOT work unfortunately.

[...]At the moment I'm spending most of my weekdays on the iPad browser and a couple of evening hours on the PC, so manually switching between the regular and constrained themes twice a day isn't too much of a problem. But if I was constantly bouncing between them during the day I could see this becoming quite an annoyance.
I'm not sure whether it's due to a change in the way the forums work, or earlier finger trouble on my part, but since using the theme changer at the bottom of the page rather than going through the Settings options it would appear that the theme preference is stored on a per-machine basis rather than per-account. So I now have "constrained" on my desktop and "non-constrained" on my iPad and all is well in the world.

Thanks again for all the effort that's gone into polishing the new look over the last week and a half. I'm really at home in the new forums now.

Is it also the same known issue for the iPhone / Safari? I can't view anything in Spoilers, and unfortunately I'm normally on the forum with my iPhone.
