Honestly Fdev ?

No game ever has been improved by "fast travel" - it's usually the first sign off putting things into maintenance mode in my experience - yeah, let everyone go everywhere instantly with no effort - we don't care anymore. Everquest stands as the biggest example of this.

Doooom... And what experience is that?

We have been able to check flight plans and hitch rides on Capital class ships for quite some time now, some cmdrs even use travelling megaships as permanent bases. Only difference is this particular ship will be a regular shuttle service to a single destination.

Have been on this forum since Alpha, never ceases to amaze me how a few cmdrs are so set in their ways. The game is not just about the hardcore minority, we can still repeatedly hit that J key on a 65,279ly trip to Beagle point.

Experience like playing games computer games since 1984 and MMOs since EQ1 launched... and yes every time a game goes down it start with the "huge crowd of non-hardcore gamers" and their difficulties and the games always ends when those same players having made the game non-challenging go for the next one... oh yes for sure the hardcore gamers arent the ones that keep games alive...

Anyway I thought the bus for Beagle point was the 381 and not the 65,279.... maybe I am wong.

What are you talking about? A Mega ship is going to be going to one system, ONE system, and it's not THAT far for the purposes of building a station and setting up a guardian research outpost, with story attached.

This isnt fast travel.

Yes, Frontier is introducing auto assists and the ability to hitch a ride on a ferry, and they are FORCING YOU TO USE IT! No, you won't be able to play the game like you are right now, you won't even be able to turn the game off. They will strap you to your chair and force you to use Supercruise Assist to fly to the Megaship, then you'll be forced to Autodock with the ship, and then you'll be forced to fast travel to wherever you would normally go. Honestly.

Oh, and when you get there, you'll be forced to auto-undock from the fast-travel ferry! HONESTLY!

"That!... Using Ludwig van like that! He did no harm to anyone. Beethoven just wrote music. "

I think it boils down to the people making the game have no personal investment in it, its just a job to them and so they churn out this lame crap without really caring about the game. Elite as a game has well and truly skipped the rails in the last few months and honestly its not going to recover from where its gone. The forum might be full of old geezers but the game is 7+

This is hardly that...
Even if it does allow instant travel to a given location (which is by no means certain) it is only targeted at one location.
Let's see what they do and how things roll out a bit first hey.
Things that help ease people in to the game aren't a terrible idea provided you are still rewarded for developing your skills and putting some time in.
We do want the game to be a success yes? I've heard of too many people put off by its inaccessibility. We can have complexity and depth and skill based play without hitting people with a hammer.
Not convinced this particular change helps over much or is the right sort of move but let's see first :)

This isnt fast travel.
And it already exists via the slammer. It needs to take 30 minutes or more though, especially if it's the same ship type that brings my other ships from other stations.

We need to vote on the name of this ship. I suggest "The Schmackadoodle Poodle"

Once space legs drop expect a guardian "teleportal" step into one end in the bubble and only moments later arrive at colonia, none of that flying nonesense. :D

I don't even look at it in a game way. It's completely in tune with the gameworld to make the Guardian ruins easier to reach. There is a lot of valuable stuff, so of course they make it easier to reach and exploit. As long as game lore is sound, I don't have any problem with things like that, even if the idea behind this is to cancel out exploration gameplay for those poor people who only want their fancy weapons. :D
There are worse things that contradict with lore and gameworld logic.

One of the earliest games that had fast-travel was The Legend of Zelda. And I really like the way they have implemented it in Breath of the Wild. I also like it in games like The Division 2. Of course, in both examples, I can ignore using it... but it would be madness, I think.

When it comes to Elite: Dangerous... Cannon has had The Gnosis doing this for over a year now. And it doesn't bother me, because it is not forced on me to use it in any form.

Also, you are completely wrong with how this works in Elite: Dangerous compared to other games... It is NOT "let everyone go everywhere instantly with no effort". How can you even use such a false statement?
