Still no fix for the data scanner only working when having "firing enables hardpoints" enabled?
(It wasn't fixed in the Beta 4 either. Tried it out yesterday.)

Also what is with the strange behavior of the buggy not going forward when rolling backwards somtimes until you full stops
and then throttle back to zero and than forth again with the hotas throtle? I'ts totally annoying.

+1 I know these two issues sound quite minor but to me these are the two biggest bugs in Horizons.
I have learned to work around them but the first one will leave a lot of people stuck how to finish missions and the second just makes the buggy handling feel terrible (throttle at max and I am going backwards!)

  • Improved surface details by adding more bump from the normals close up and reducing tiling at distance due to the alpha not being faded out at the same time as the normal

Sounds good. Intrigued to see screenshots of the new surfaces.

Being the pedantic person I am however, I have one question: While the planet scale terrain generation is great (placement/shape/occurence of plains, mountains, craters, rifts etc.), closer up the surface consists exclusively of varying "bumps" with mostly round edges. Even in places that seem to be dramatically shaped rocky areas.

Are there any plans to add vertical cliffs/overhangs as well as sharp rock features etc. to the terrain generation in the future?

Dev`s please stop the hand holding do not have the ships thrusters on by default on respawn in orbit. Let Cmdr`s engage their brain, the ship is supposed to be in hibernation. On re-spawning the ship should be iced up to reflect its reduced temp signature and you should have to do a sequenced system reboot to get up and running, make it some bit realistic and less arcade. Also give the option to leave our ship parked on the surface in hibernation and take our chances or dismiss for safety, free will and all.

...and then when the throttle does work, you are going in reverse at full throttle!

Its worse in combat to slow to escape to heavy to turn lack of power and power distributor that severely hampers boosting and weapon recharge rates the only way to get a good weapons confergence is when using turrets witch do not enough damage using fixed weapons is useless because of its lack in agility.

No offense, but this is pretty much 'criticising-by-numbers'. When you actually fly the ship you'll find out there is a big difference between what people say is impossible and what is actually impossible. The PD is easily able to power 2 medium MCs and three lasers, gimballed works fine. With a cleared beta save I had no problem at all doing all kinds of missions and killing NPCs with a cheap D/C rated CIV. Its a fine ship. You're free to use a T6 if you prefer it, but I'd take a CIV any day of the week.

And this is probably starting to become massively OT...

I hope POIs will scale with system population as well as distance to Sol. A small system with 500 people shouldn't have crash sites everywhere.

Looking good for launch otherwise. :)

I agree... I really enjoy flying around looking for stuff. But I wish there was a larger scan you could do from a longer range and then narrow it down. Personally I think anything man made should flare right up on your radar and show up as maybe question marks on the planetary map ? then you know where to go approximately to find man made objects. I'm sure scanners in the future would be able to detect small man made things from space.

One minor detail fix that I'm pretty happy about - although it has been already included in the Beta 2: The station menu can no be controlled correctly with the mouse pointer when viewed from an angle due to headtracking! :D This will probably something that mostly affected the mouse/keayboard + headtracking players out there.

Before Horizons (1.5? Beta), the "hitbox" for the station menu stayed centered to your view. Meaning that when you looked at the menu sideways, even if only a little, you wouldn't hit the buttons when the mouse pointer was above them. Instead it had to be moved to where the button would have been if you looked at the menu absolutely straight.

Good one. ^^

I have to say, I'm very sad to hear you guys aren't considering tweaks for the Mk IV :( If internal game stats show it's unpopular once Horizons goes live, would you reconsider? I'm honestly not trying to be a jerk - It just seems like a shame for the successor to the iconic Mk III Cobra to end up being substantially less popular than its forebear...

Anyways, good to hear the Headlook issue is straightened out, but how about UI Focus and the throttle funkiness? Thanks again for the quick response, by the way ;)

It happens also to cars in real life, that new model is less popular than old one. Although some people like MkIV as you can see on this forum.

Great work Frontier!

Was any of these Crashfixes the cause of the AMD Graphics Driver crashing while driving on the surface of a planet?

  • Fix a crash caused by a POI activating during a transition
  • Fixed multi-threading crash in physics
  • Fixed crash in mission manager
  • Fixed crash in terrain patch generation
  • Fix for missing texture errors in schematics

Any chance on getting key bindings for moving through the tabs in system map? Cause its the only thing I have to use my mouse for while playing with joystick/keyboard.

Are you conscious that DB Explorer is quite a bit deprecated as a dedicated Explorer ship in Horizons cosidering all the features you've introduced?

Not really.. when you are at a funds level it might still be the best option for you.

Plus there is nothing wrong with having plenty of options and preferences for the same job. Just like there are multiple types of trucks out there that all haul cargo.. All different styles and strengths but all do the job.

I want 10 different types of fighters. 10 different types of traders .. 10 different types of explorers etc..
