Patch Notes Update Horizons 2.0 beta change log #6

Since you need to hover 2km+ from the surface in Beta 5 and now with Beta 6 only at 1km altitude it is certainly an improvement. ;)

It sounds like they've just extended (fixed?) the rate of fade. Depending on how good your eyes are, it may still be close to unusable at 1km anyway since that will be the lower extent (closest to 0% opacity).

Sorry but the way I read your post it says "You basically need to be in an SRV to even hope to see a POI so why bother flying in your ship" which is even worse than beta 5. Things need to go back to beta 4.

uh....flying 1km up takes, no real time, and why would you go back to fly to next spot and land and not just drive there?

I really wasn't expecting another release today, but it is an awesome one! So many little goodies

- Swap order of long/lat on the orbital HUD: the order is now; latitude, longitude, gravity

It's the simple things, but thanks a lot for this

- Altered the null chance for POIs such that there is a nice fall off between civilised and unexplored space

Excellent

- Fix POI's that were visible form ship in the form of a disk but were not spawning when in the ship

Very nice

- Reduced damage boots from synthesis

Very nice

- Fixed multi-cannon basic synthesis so that it only gives 50% ammo refill

Very nice (see a pattern forming :))

- Adjusted fade off for POI blue circle so that it starts fading out at 2km and fades out by 1km

Great, hopefully this will appease most people, but judging by comments already from those who haven't even tried it, it won't

- Remove the "Warning, thingy has changed jurisdiction" message, it's misbehvaing around POIs and causing more confusion that it's helping

Now I never saw this message, but please tell me that it actually used the word 'thingy' and if it did... Bring it back :D

It was very nice to see the addition of the low end graphics options, I suspect you will make a lot of people happy with that. If only FD actually listened to the community on important matters eh? :p

Wait does this improve upon the change in beta 5 or does this make it even worse? So that we have to hover around 1km form the surface to even hope to see the POIs on the scanner?

Why don't you try it before jumping to conclusions..? Oh wait, yes, of course.

Agree, these missions need an overhaul. POI's seem like it will take time to get them right.
Or they will end up like Unidentified Source Signals. It is full year and that mechanic is still extremely broken and frustrating. It is simply not fun hovering in space in supercruise, hoping USS will spawn and it will actually be correct one. Having to kill 3 pirates and it taking chore of going through 10+ USS is no FUN at all.

Ooh, a bit of last-minute testing. :D

Ports only care about crimes within 4km? Isn't that a bit short? I think the no-fire zone is longer than that. If it's the same as the no-fire zone, perhaps the wording for the message when you enter and exit it could be changed to "jurisdiction"?

I think Sandro mentioned toning down the synthesis benefits before release, so please remember this. Personally, I think bonuses should be in the 10-20% range, rather than 50-100%, and people oddly seem happier about buffs post-release than nerfs. So it's better to err on the stingy side. EDIT: It's already in the notes. Nice. :)

Didn't MB say last week that he liked the lat/long based search approach and wanted to use it in SAR missions? But I think that might take a more fundamental rewrite of the mission than tweaking the current "Any escape pod in this system will do" approach. One is checking the list of active missions for cargo types to use when instantiating random PoIs on any local planet, the second generates a specific PoI with mission-specific cargo when approaching the given location.

I think the mission itself can stay pretty intact as long as they add a "find mechanism" into the game for these. The mission could also include a signature for you to search for, but that would just be a lore justification for how you can search for it. The game "just" needs to do a check when it enters the system where you are suppose to find this thing.

"Do I have a mission that involves finding something in this system?"

"I do! Ok...*rolls dice*...it's now over here."

That means you'll need a system destination, but since practically all other missions already has that I can't imagine that being a blocker since they are using the same game system.

The big thing is to add a way of then triangulating where that POI was placed so that you can find it. Just like what the wave scanner already does in the SRV. In the ship I propose that the compass could be used as an "oscilloscope". Wobbly line along the Y axis means you need to pitch towards it. Wobbly line along the X axis means you need to turn you ship left/right towards it. If you are looking towards the POIs rough direction the graphic could be a wobbly circle, a circle that became smaller and smaller and eventually a dot (just like when you have a destination selected) when it appears as a POI/USS in front of you as usual. You can then drop into it and do your thing. You have now actually found the thing you where sent out to find.

No news regarding the AMD issues in supercruise? I'm sure you, as FDEV, are in touch with the guys at AMD driver section..

Tomorrow is the release date of Horizons and a lot of players are still there with this catastrophic issue (myself included) that's perduring from about 5 months from now.

Thank you in advance. :)

That's AMD's issue by all accounts, and ED is not a popular enough game for them to fix it anytime soon. If it were Black Ops 3 or something like that then they would get right on it.

Give them 6 months and they might eventually get it fixed.

Thanks for the patch FD will be testing soon :)

Does anyone know if the AD Scanner finds all bases in a system or if the DS Scanner adds any Base info or any Horizions info at all?
