Patch Notes Update Horizons 2.0 Beta Change Log

Downloading the Horizons beta now. Getting only 0.8 MB/s download speeds at the moment, so it will be quite a long while to finish.

Its the same every big launch.. They need to come up with a better solution than what they have. And given the constant server issues I believe AWS are terrible. For big releases they should come up with a p2p torrent solution. Waiting 10 - 15 hours for a download is just ridiculous.

503 is the right code on server overload problem, but that isn't the matter.
Because my updater crashed (server error at 80%) i've restarted the update: no problems at all. Downloading now with 5MB/s (5 min left :) )

Just listened to Dream Theater's Scenes From A Memory while downloading and it's still only half done. This is going to be a long evening. LOL

New kind of error while DLing:

They had the sale numbers and know how many people play daily, it's just impossible to not know the traffic impact a launch like this would be, unless, they really didn't ca......

Take a look at CCP, almost every time they know a very HUGE war on EVE is going to take place, they move their biggest servers to the location where the war will happen in order for players to be able to play, if they know by just paying attention to their product, so can every other company. Frontier could had rented a small server if not bought a new one just to prevent this now (and on the future with any next expansion), they got paid by the pre-orders in the first place.

But anyway, enough ranting, they did a big mistake (again), let's just wait for things to calm down, so we can download the beta and play ^^

In an ideal world that's true, but even major retailers know how many emails and other marketting content they're sending out for an event like Black Friday. The trouble is, once you're adding the human element these things become more difficult to predict and even your best efforts can't prepare for it. I've had numerous clients in exactly the same situation and come peak, regardless of all their forward planning their servers still fall over under the strain. You can't predict every possible thing that can go wrong. But now I'm just getting into professional semantics, we can just wait for Michael to let us know the issues are sorted and try again. :)

Oh, they're using AWS? No wonder! Yes, AWS are absolutely awful! The trouble is while they claim to have an auto-scaling cloud solution, it doesn't scale until AFTER a problem has already started, and it takes time to spin up new server instances in the cloud, so at the end of the day it actually offers no tangible benefit to most companies trying to prevent overloading during peak periods.

- The cockpit canopy can now be repaired by the AFM

This excites me.

Why? Because with the possibility to replenish the AFM with materials scavenged from planets, explorers can now repair their ship and canopy any time, anywhere --provided that they can find the material. :D

Aye the paranoia of busting the canopy thousands of LYs from any station really made my exploration quite short..

P.S Mine is still syncing files...am i doing something wrong?
