News Horizons and 1.5 launch - Servers offline

I've just read the newsletter again and in fairness Zac it does not say at what time the servers will be going down.
Not the time no. Did say the day though. Common sense would be to avoid the day entirely.
Have to say though, this is the earliest start to an update I remember for a while.

I don't know about everyone else but I've been playing and reporting Bug reports so we could have 6 different Beta builds.

Were you paid for this or did you pay to get access ?

I mean if you have a job, are you getting paid for this or do you pay your boss to have the right to work ?

Words have a sense !

As far as the 24 hour clock conversion goes, if the time > 12 then subtract 12 from the time and you have PM.

Ex: 16:00 > 12:00 = true
so 16:00 - 12:00 = 4:00pm.
(all times below 12 in the 24-hour version are AM)

Or you could just ask Google:

"16:00 gmt in est"

returns

"11.00 Tuesday, Eastern Time (ET)"

(Google fills in the date part)

It's irrelevant whether money was involved or not. A beta is a beta, a stage in the development of software.

A more realistic break down of todays upgrade schedule hehehehe :) :

8am (servers go offline for upgrade)

4pm (servers come online for upgrade)

4.01pm (servers crash due to overloaded bandwidth from players downloading all at once)

4.05pm (the forums explode in anger and bug reports that its not working)

4.10pm (the devs put out the word that they are working on the problem)

8pm (game pretty much downloading now the bottleneck has been unclogged on the server)

8.25pm *gotta take into acount downloading time* (the forums explode AGAIN! as the ingame servers have now crash because of shear overload of players)

8:30pm (the moderators put out a calming message that its been noted and to be patient *as the Devs at this point have gone home for the day*)

*time passes* (sporadic forum posts over night of it working for some and not for others)

11am (servers go offline for an update patch to fix the problems encountered before)

4pm (everything up and running and back to the game YAY!)

so i'll see you tomorrow i guess folks ;)

p.s - in all seriousness though i hope it doesnt pan out like the above bit of fun (fingers crossed)

I too was surprised at such an early start! I do believe someone at Frontier didn't get a good nights sleep? Came into the office really early and decided to take the servers offline and do an early update.

What I would like to see is an estimate when we can expect the servers to be back up and running.

Alternatively, if using Windows you can add an extra clock to your toolbar to give you GMT as well as your local time. In game the time is UTC (which equals GMT) of course, except the servers are down?

(I understand there's an update going on is there?)

:D

Godspeed to Commander Major Tim Peake

2 am i can start downloading the client?? wonderful, I just did a clean install of windows today, threw in a GTX 980TI and reinstalled ED alrerady...I guess ill uninstall it, and start the download in the morning again :(

By PURE definition, it is not a beta, it is an anticipated access !

Beta phase is a development phase where you test the product to find remaining bugs to fix them. It is a work phase, not a play time. There is a new trend among players and dev teams to call beta something they charge players to get access, it is pure non sense and everybody is getting in.

Horizon was an anticipated access so far since we paid for it. It was not a beta !

It says "beta" on the button I press to run it, so I'm going to be crazy like a fox and call it "beta".

You're free to refer to it as An Anticipated Access all you like.

But I'm calling it "beta". Because it's shorter, and people know roughly what I'm talking about when I say it. :)

Everyone who started "Elite: Dangerous Horizons Beta 2.0" in the launcher ... If you were jumping through Hyperspace or had mission running or cargo worth of 20 MCr ... It doesn´t matter.

What is beta and when do they occur:
Beta is a period of testing prior to the full release of an update....

Saved game and beta:
Beta servers are entirely separated from the live servers. The save data is generated from a snapshot of the live servers in the weeks leading up to the beta. It may appear that your beta character has lost progress or has moved system if you played the game between the snapshot being taken and the beta being launched.
Any progress made in beta is lost at the end of the beta test period and no part of beta affects your main save.

You should start in Horizons (NON BETA) there, where you left Elite: Dangerous (NON BETA)
