Thats odd. Until now the statements on this question was something like "we will go down and land seamless on planets surface".
You are comparing it with dropping from Supercruise. Right now dropping from Supercruise to normal flight in space is far from being seamless. I cant image how a mechanic like that will look if I approach a planet surface.
I guess we will find out Monday 30th.
I think that FD probably consider the word "seamless" to refer to the loading of game assets and the planet. They already demonstrated in a recent sneak peak and livestream that they have the technology to do a seamless zoom from planet surface to orbit, so from a graphics perspective, the seamless technology is there.
However there will need to be some kind of special effect to cover the fact that when you suddenly decelerate from thousands of meters per second, to just a couple of hundred, there is also a transition of network instance taking place and it takes a second or so to load that. This can be covered up with a deceleration effect of some kind.
When you transition from SC to orbital cruise, your velocity is probably not changing that much between your minimum SC velocity and your cruising orbital cruise velocity.
I think what FD are following here is that the instance transition also occurs at the time when you make a huge reduction in velocity in the space of a second or two.
This is not a "loading screen" in the sense of a game like Half Life 2 where one bit of space is being thrown away and another one loaded.
This is consistent with the current game, where the transition to normal flight is actually a huge change in velocity from several thousand m/s to 0.
I think this will all start to make sense when we see how it works.
I am comfortable with this, because the way I think of it when your frameshift takes you through that change from extreme speed to much lower (or the other way around), you will experience some sensation and visual blurring at that point due to the forces on your body etc.
The key is whether the animations that accompany this are immersive and make you feel like it's a real experience, and also quick enough to not interrupt the experience.. I do agree that the transition from SC to normaly flight at the moment when you are approaching a station is not ideal with the station popping up in front of you by magic - it would be better if it kind of zoomed in from the distance as if you are decelerating rapidly, but maybe that's something for a further fix.
