News Horizons Release Date – Tuesday 15th December

Whoah whoah... So we won't get to test better planet surface textures / material quality?? Please don't tell me it will stay in the current state! The quality of surface textures, even on ultra, is way too low.

And come to think of it, what about the more color variety. It was said that only about 10% of the texture palette was implemented in the beta... When do we get to test the rest?

Well i see inconvenient questions get ignored...

To Quote Zac From the screenie thread "As mentioned by David Braben in his recent video upload, there are some planets out there which have an extra high level of finish to them. At release, all planets will have this level of finish, but while they are less common in the beta we thought we would have a little fun.

Hi Everyone,
All going well, we plan to launch Horizons with Planetary Landings on Tuesday (15th December – you heard it here first!). This will initially be termed an ‘Early Access’ release to highlight our normal process to our broad audience, some of whom have been with us since the start, but many have joined our community very recently.

RIGHT ON COMMANDER!

David

Any news on what rankings we'll need to buy the Corvette and Cutter ? I'm Viscount, and it would be so nice nice if I could buy a Cutter on day one :)

I'm amazed that everyone appears to have overlooked the most important question. First we had Elite: Dangerous and now we have Horizons. So what should it really be called?
Elite Dangerous: Horizons, Elite: Dangerous Horizons or Elite: Dangerous: Horizons?

As someone who knows how important it is to look after your colon, I really want to know!

FEAR NOT! I am here to answer all your difficult and most important questions.

Elite Dangerous

&

Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

All the downloads come from frontier, not the Steam Servers.

Thanks Mr. Dogg that is what I thought.

That's not true. The game files are also on Steam.

You don't download new files from Steam though, it's all done through the Frontier servers.

Well i see inconvenient questions get ignored...

No a couple of people answered and asked more questions of you. Also as TonyW said David already mentioned at the start that only some of the planets in the Beta have the hi-res textures, but all will have them on release.

They have already stated that there will not be NPC ships. I do not remember where the post was...but it is in one of the dev reports or videos.

Lol, what!?

Thanks for the info anyway, I'm just going to lie here on the floor for a bit before getting back up.

You do know that all game files and updates come from Frontier and NOT the steam servers right? All you download from steam is the launcher, so no. That's not a good enough reason, because it simply isn't one.

That actually not true. If you active your Steam key and install the game from Steam, both the Launcher and the Game itself is updated via Steam. Just watch the Steam downloads tab after an update was released.

Steam just downloads the Launcher, which then downloads the game files.

I got a 500MB Steam update when CQC was released, and the launcher displayed Play instead of Update when it was done.
Steam does update the game files !

To play with the Valve/HTC Vice, will our game have to be linked to a Steam account, or can standalone EDH talk to the VR headset independently of Steam?
