Hot takes for planet zoo

Here’s a new one: I don’t think that anyone appreciates the black-footed ferret enough. It’s one of the greatest conservation stories ever, and we successfully CLONED the creature!
They're cool, but IMO Red Wolf would be a cool addition too. They are more of a warm weather wolf. (I mean I guess technically the Dingo is a warm weather wolf...)
IDK, I guess I'd like black-footed ferret.

Hot take question (cuz i have no patients rn and i'm bored at work): what are the boring animal picks that you think would cover some gaps in the roster and that you actually want for the game?
Probably the most boring animal that’s high on my wishlist is the eastern grey kangaroo. Temperate Australia is easily the most well-represented part of Oceania in PZ but without a representative kangaroo it’s always going to feel like there's a big hole in its roster. It would also be nice if the addition of a second kangaroo gave Frontier the opportunity to finally go back and improve their kangaroo animations so that they can walk pentapedally (walking on all fours + the tail) rather than just constantly hopping everywhere, a change that would hopefully also be brought over to the red kangaroo.

Yeah that was something i noticed with the wallaby yesterday, they only have one way of locomotion.

Yeah, the quokka is the only macropod in the game that gets down on all fours when it's moving slowly. I don't see Frontier updating the kangaroo and wallaby to move accurately anytime soon, but I am hoping it is something we see in a potential PZ2 (along with an improved red kangaroo model of course).

New hot take to drop: I'll gladly abandon modular climbing frames if it meant arboreal animals could move properly. Just having having toys like ZT2's lookout post and monkey bars would be a great way to give lifelike animals
Don’t 100% agree but maybe limit the way you build climbing frames to very specific angles that way there is always an animation that correlates

Honestly I think some alternative modes could be cool:
  1. Sanctuary mode: you cannot breed animals, you cannot access the trade center, all animals are brought to you in little “story moments” and you have to see if you can accommodate them or not. As a sanctuary you are forgiven for certain things, such as an animal being alone, as long as other requirements are met.
  2. Small Zoo mode: you have maybe 1/4 or less of the space a normal Franchise or Sandbox zoo has. All around your zoo are large walls, as your zoo is built in the middle of a public/ local park. Pretty much the only issue being space allocation.
  3. Breeding Center mode: you do not have to worry about guests. Simply put, you are an offshoot of a conservation center or zoo and your main job is to breed endangered animals and maintain a healthy herd/ stock. You will get some money through your parent facility, but you can also get money through grants and donations.

Also, I still think the perfect “boring” animal would be a duck of some kind. Namely the more “dull” species. Like a mallard, pacific black duck, Brazilian teal. Normally we all talk about the more exotic ducks, with the fancy feather patterns. But I still think even a “dull” duck would go for miles in this game. Dare I say, I think they could go even farther than a mandarin duck.

To be honest i would really dislike if they took away the freedom of building your own climbing frames.
But i also think having climbing frame enrichment items where animals play a set animation would be nice to have in addition to that, kinda like the goat mountian. Especially for the animals that dont really function the most natural with the existing climbing system like orang, gibbons and sifaka

I would have been fine with a modular lego set for climbing, where the pieces are pre-built and have their associated animation sets but can connect together however the heck you want. IMO this would nullify the awkwardness with the climbing system while still allowing for no two frames to be identical pretty much to the same extent as they already are. As part of this, include things like tyre swings, hammocks, nest boxes, ropes, beams, towers, nets, and so on.

What controversial animal addition did you feel was better than what everybody else wanted
A fair number of animals actually:
  • Alpine Goat > Pygmy Goat
  • Proboscis Monkey > Doucs
  • Dama Gazelle > Honey Badger
  • African Leopard > Serval
  • Dall Sheep > Snowshoe Hare
  • Siamag > Lar Gibbon
  • Wild Water Buffalo > Platypus
  • Saiga > Pallas's Cat

We got wild water buffalo and platypus in the same dlc.

🔥Weekly Hot Take🔥
What controversial animal addition did you feel was better than what everybody else wanted, for example alot people wanted the markhor more than the takin, but I love the takin ten times more than the markhor.
Conservation - Siamang > Lar Gibbon - while I would have missed the colors had the lar never came in Twilight, the calls of the siamang are FAR too iconic to include if a gibbon were to be added

Twilight - Skunk > Tasmanian Devil - I remember there was a micro-outcry by some about this, but it never bothered me. At the point, the devil was inevitable and I appreciate Twilight's Woodland Critter/Forest Friends vibes

Oceania - Quokka > Tree Kangaroo - Make no mistake, tree kangaroo remains very high on my wishlist, but I think there's a place at the table for the quokka. Plus it was one of my grandmother's favorites

Barnyard - Donkey > Horse/Pony - I love donkeys! Much more than horses, it's such an unpopular opinion, sometimes I feel, I feel...

🎵I'm all alone
There's no here beside me
My problems have all gone
There's no one to deride me
BUT YA GOTTA HAVE FRIENDS!!!!🎵

Is that a hot take? I can only recall two common opinions about horses and the Barnyard Pack;
  1. Some people wanted a horse, but I don't really remember anyone saying the donkey should have been skipped.
  2. The donkey as it is shouldn't neigh like a bloody horse and the fact that it does so pretty much ruins it anyway.
I don't think anyone can deny that donkeys are a staple of petting zoos. Miniature horses are common, sure, but donkeys are far more so.

I'm aware, I just liked the buffalo more than the platypus.
I do agree, but the whole reason for this is to say why you feel that getting a unpopular animal was better than what everybody wanted, which doesn't work if the animal people would have preferred is added before/alongside the controversial one.
