Although I’ve never seen them myself, apparently they’re more common than I thought - especially in Europe. Zlín Zoo, Vogelpark Avifauna, Antwerp, plus Toledo in the US all have kept kiwi outdoors at some point recently in more traditional aviaries mixed with other birds.

They're often mixed with Australian species overseas interestingly enough, which I’m unsure how to feel about tbh... The exhibit above includes Aussie magpie, but I’ve also heard of crested pigeon, blue faced honeyeaters, and kookaburra being mixed with them. I’ve also seen them with tawny frogmouth myself at Bronx and Columbus (which do keep them indoors).
Luckily they do still seem to have dark places to hide from the public in these enclosures - which they seem to be doing most of the time.
