How FD can fend off a hypothetical goon takeover (or even a real one)

If Goons really come en mass you can bet they heavily going after FD to change some major game features.

- drop instances or push up player limit so Goons can use their force in numbers
- allow player controlled space/outposts
- cut off Solo from Open so Open players cant avoid them
- make The Mittani Chairman of FD right next to DB ;-)

If FD doesnt bend over, Goons will be not more annoying then a pimple on your bum.

I dunno, Solo mode is pretty handy because *shock* Goons get griefed, too. We of course exercise guild privilege over each other, as Goon Must Not Grief Goon *unless it's that one Goon in particular, and only if he had a bad day).

Frankly, high-conflict zones are exciting enough without 32 ships controlled by idiots cracked out on Mountain Dew and cheeto dust, so most Goons are okay with that.

Also player-owned stations aren't going to happen just because it's already a lot of fun picking out a pet faction, and helping it take over the system - or systems - you want. And honestly, not joking here - Something Awful Goons are really enjoying that as the Meta-Game. I know that by chance, a user on this forum was interested in trying to flip a system we happened to be backing in secret. It didn't happen.

So my question to you is 'is that griefing?' Is that undesirable behaviour? With so many systems that can be done to, is that really limiting YOU, as a Commander, in this game?

I am almost certain I would get someone who actually would argue it is, and I just want to put it out front - are you sure this game is for you? How is limiting any kind of fun any different than what 'goons' are accused of?

BRB sobering up quick, and it's annoying.

Given that this thread is still going, you have to admire the tenacity of their Keyboard Warrior Propaganda Department.

I wasn't kidding about that. The SA ED community project thread literally elected me to come over here and talk some sense into you guys.

I find it more amusing that there are still people out there who give a broken dime about goons, to be honest.

I know, right? It's like being afraid of a frail, old, bitter man, who they like to call names.

All I have to say is ... bring it on.

Some of what your suggesting is pure speculation and some isnt feasible within the current game design.

However, the basis of what your suggesting will just add some colour to the game...
It will also require a large number of people to play long hours at peak times.

Again I say bring it on !!!

I'm amused at the concern of the whole "Goon Threat". Goons are already here. They've likely been here since Alpha. It's not like the mere presence of a Goon will totally destroy any chance you have at playing Elite.

I say, so what! Let 'em show up, organize, generate some conflict. Goons can be pretty creative, I'm looking forward to seeing what, if any, plans they have in store for Elite.

Worst comes to absolute worst, there's always solo mode.

Well, I dont know the Goons of today since I left EVE over 2 years ago after playing it for close to 8 years. But the Goons I know had a big part in making 0.0 a boring playground cause when you look up old Influence maps every 6 month you would see alot of changes aka conflicts. When I left there were basicly just 2 huge blobs left and the only conflicts were lagfests were you could hope your guns activate 30secs after you hit fire and changes on the map happened only when some Alliance leader had enough money sucked out of his alliance to ebay it for a new BMW and then dissbanded the Alliance over night. Didnt you had that too once in Delve ^^ and lost your initial Alliance name ?
I guess the biggest concern of todays 0.0 Alliance player is to make enough money to RMT with his Tengu fleet before CCP bans him. But CCP had it comming, they didnt limit Standings/Alliance/Corp size so everyone just recruited and befriended like a maniac, also making C64 moons static and not let them deplete and respawn in a different location helped here. WH space was nice at the beginning but then the blobs arrived there too.

/me sad, I loved that game but CCP lost track.

The irony here is I've never even played EVE, so I understood like a quarter of that. Still, it sounds like a fair and even response. Thank you! :)

Wow this went on for 18 pages and counting.

I know, right? This thread is now the official SA Embassy. Be sure to visit the gift shop.

Hey guys.

I'm about to order those "Hug a Goon" teddy bears we were talking about for the gift shop, the manufacturer says we need to specify the exact poundage of pressure needed to release the spring loaded knives. Any ideas?

Also, the shrapnel for the branded "alarm clocks" is costing me a bleeding fortune to get shipped in, it's only fair some of you should chip in for that. Remember, I am paying for the detonators out of my own pocket.

Edit: uh, wrong forum?

O hay guys.

I'm a goon and I find it hilarious how much goonfear...no... goonterror exists in a game where we've pretty much just kept to ourselves outside of a few pilots (mad ups to my broheem Shockeh) plinking people too stupid to realise shields are our friends.

What the seething morass of caterwauling plebs fail to realise is that SomethingAwful is a community of (at present count 190,427 users), and just because a group of goons exists in game A does not mean that exact organisation of goons (and therefore their aims/proclivities) also exists in game B.

Also, most ED-playing goons have long-standing love affairs with both this series and other traditional space sims so the ersome claims that there won't be a goon presence due to some perceived skill barrier is just as funny as watching some pubbie get bent out of shape claiming that we're going to ruin the game and attempting to enact vast gameplay changes based upon the potential that "the goons are coming."

Get over yourselves, screw Eve and its dramaqueening, and keep flying unshielded ships. Thank you drive through.

Pretty much this. Sometimes people also go out of their way to make trouble with supposed 'troublemakers'. One group from these very forums have declared war on goonkind.

Unfortunately, they didn't realize they declared war on goonkind. This should be interesting!

It is perhaps the worst thing you can do where goons are concerned. If we're actually playing the game and minding our own beeswax, not griefing (which, short of mass poop deliveries would be difficult in a game like this) or causing trouble, poking the nest is only going to result in a swarm of angry hornets, or in this case eagles and sidewinders.

oh yeah, almost forgot, +1 rep for reppination because, y'know, rep. Also, flaps.

(once again, mod hat very much off)

I think this sort of thing might be where you get your reputation from. Effectively you're saying "someone has angered us. We're not going to say if it's you or if so what you did. But there will be some unspecified payback against this unspecified group". That means anything you do could be seen as an attack against anyone, so the rational response is for everyone to assume everything you do is an attack against them. Perhaps a bit of transparency might be worth a go? Feel free to PM me if you're concerned about naming and shaming etc. - I'll put my hat back on and we'll work something out.

I'm just flat-out going to say it because it's so utterly ridiculous in its origin.

Emperor's Grace have basically declared war on any and all players originating from forums.somethingawful.com (read: goons) because one of our number repeatedly attempted to talk to their leadership about joint Empire-related ops and was reluctant to use said group's TeamSpeak, while they refuse to communicate outside of said VOIP application. This reluctance (and in the case of some players, inability due to living situation/hardware/whatever) to use their TeamSpeak means that they've decided we're all immature Fed spies.

I'm not going to quote posts and point to threads outside the official forums (but we can provide links) but it essentially boils down to "some guy rents a TS server, wants to feel like it's worth the cost and thus forces all communication to be through said channels".

Can you? As someone loosely associated with EG (I "joined" a group that's using EG teamspeak servers, all pretty easy going stuff)

I am not aware of any *declaration of war*, maybe I am out of touch. I see nothing on the EG's forums about it. If there is then I suspect people haven't been told!

The chap in question attempted to contact EG leadership through multiple methods and was consistently met with terse "get on TS" responses, and when he posted their private board, the hesitance regarding TS apparently offended the guy so deeply he went from civil to blanket statements involving us lying about our numbers, claiming we've been "nothing but issues from the start" and suggesting Barbie Love Mix as a more suitable game for our membership. Basically, the usual kind of crap we expect from people who mean Serious Business™. The KOS is openly stated.

Yeah, all this because somebody didn't want to get on TS.

Anyway, no skin off our collective noses.
