How long would you wait for Odyssey to add VR?

If VR isn't baked in to the new engine from the start to beta test, etc then it will be a long long time for them to get around to implement, if not bother at all.
They never bothered making the system/galaxy maps more VR friendly over the last 6 years..

I'm unable to go for VR for the simple fact that I use LOTS of key binds to the point there's not a single spare key... which makes me wonder how do you guys manage to play in VR without a massive number of buttons available to be mapped... I'd have my ship shot to pieces in no time if I had to rely on game's menu for everything I do.

Quite happy with my 4K monitor, though!
my HOTAS gives me all keys I need quickly during combat / normal flight. I also learned to touch type, but need it only for those things I need rarely (e.g. forced supercruise instead of the supercruise/hyperspace combo, external camera controls). Wing targeting and SLF orders are on the numpad. Chatting is nearly as fast as without now, you get used to it.

Back to topic - I'd wait for however long it takes, but I'd stop playing at some point I guess, and there is the risk that a new game comes out.

If I can continue in Horizons in VR, or just stay seated in VR in Odyssey, then I can wait for as long as it takes Frontier to put it in for Legs...

The reality is, I fear, that it will stay in for Horizons and you'll be instanced off, as if you're playing the XBox version (shared galaxy but not 3D environment) and not enabled in Odyssey at all (I suspect its not in the new render part of the COBRA engine at this point)...

I can wait for all the time Frontier needs to put VR in Odyssey, and I'm confident that the emphasis on "at launch" in dev's post means they're going to make it work in VR anyway.

I really don't understand why some people is assuming they won't buy that DLC, I have already taken out my wallet.

FD have used the "not at launch" phrase before eg. in relation to PSVR and it's never appeared.

The realist in me thinks that it should more honestly be written as "we're not planning to support VR in Elite from Odyssey forward but just want to soften the blow/backlash by offering some hope"

FD's current stance is no VR for Odyssey, unless they definitively say otherwise anyone waiting will be doing so in vain.

I simply refuse to buy Odyssey until it does support VR. I played Elite Dangerous base for 4 years without Horizons I can do the same with this as well. I never asked for legs and I certainly am not looking for another FPS. some of the other features sound like they will be cool but I am in no hurry to have to play a broken game because half of it supports VR and the other half does not. I'll stick with what I have now thank you and ignore the rest.

Everything bound to a HOTAS (I have a duel stick and throttle setup) - Works like a charm.

Dual stick myself and everything bound with buttons to spare. 27 per stick before modifiers is plenty.

*When they confirm that it will definitely have VR at some point instead of this vague "we'll look into it" , I'll wait for as long as it takes. But until they confirm they are indeed working on it, I don't believe for a second that it will come.

Sooooo, you can drive around in a SRV in VR until you vomit, but it's too hard to walk around with smooth locomotion (other games manage it). Perhaps it is just too difficult to render a "atmospheric" planet in VR as oppose to a barren airless planet/moon ?? :)

There will be no VR for Odyssey and that is final. The line about VR not being there at the start is PR fluff, pure and simple. I am out. I only play in VR and even now have reached fatigue with the game as nothing serious has been added for so long now it has almost become a joke. Atmospheric landings and different types of planetary environments is needed. Plus dfferent vehicle types. How long can the SRV remain as the ONLY ground vehicle? And I write this as someone who loves the SRV and was the first CMDR to take one into high orbit from Mount Neverest . . . Good times. But all over now.

You're playing with keyboard and mouse then?
First thing: throttle and stick. They provide quite a few buttons. Even ways to double up (or more) on the same buttons by holding one. Though I don't use that, I need that one button itself :).

Then Voice Attack to have voice input (and voice packs if you so please).

I then run one instance of OVRDrop (though there is probably something better out there now). That enables me to show a window somewhere static in my VR world. I usually have a browser open in there so I can lookup trade data etc.

Can't have enough pixels! And with the performance hit in VR I still have jagged lines. Though you're probably rendering about as many pixels as I am with my Vive Pro.

Such a shame but like others if there is no VR at launch I wont be purchasing the expansion. If it takes a year I will rejoin the game then.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's around a year. Clearly they want to do it but they'll need to deal with all the post launch problems with Odyssey before they enable it for VR and that will take time.
