How many of you don't play anymore?

Yes. They have. The latest iteration is not only playable but even good... You can rob stations, for instance, exploration is pretty cool, and rewarding, trade is brilliant, especially with the manager mechanic.... Battle is ok I guess, but I always try not to kill desperately...

Word of caution however: I am fully capable to play "boring" games buy other standards, but ED is beyond boring.

whoah whaoh!!! i am a die hard X3 fan.... played over 900h of it... x rebirth is a disgrace. you want a real game play X3TC or X3AP, with mods, get familiar with the mod community and have years of fun on it. Xrebirth on the other hand... is a accident affair child of egosoft and the sooner i can wipe it from my memory the better!

what helps me alot in staying in the game is enjoying my current ship and role playing, of course i take the 10 extra seconds to dock like a real pilot would dock a harrier on a carrier. and i make the wuuush sound. :p

i also role play. take the extra 30 seconds to role play, act like the docks are loading cargo via slaves or whatever, then i imagine that when i refuel, that a mechanical arm comes to the side and pumps fuel (10 more seconds right there). makes it fun and interesting. using imagination until the implement walking around the docks... enjoying what i have now [Type 7] (not focusing on the next ship as much) and acting like a job and a honest living. rather than...

$98 million more to go o_O!!!!!!

that will be 156 trips with this route that has 3 jumps one way.... that will be.....

-40sec per jump x3
-1:20 time to dock
-1:20 time to undock
-2:20 time from star to station ~500km
-3:10 time from star to station ~2000km

-7:45 from tinklesprout 219 to doggybarky 867
-6:39 back

approx.......41.5 hours of tryhard mode grinding!!
(these are all real calculations of mine)

i just spend the extra minute or two role playing to make it fun...
whats 1-2 minutes compared to 14?
esp when you're trying to play a game to have fun... so have fun!! :]

Why imagine what they can actually put in the game for you? It sounds like you are imagining a better game and then dreaming you are playing it :\

I would like to quote many players here in this thread that speak/write/think what I want to write but heres my post.
I was a beta participant and I loved it ! But somewhere in Gamma something happened, something changed and
i really cant put my finger on it.

I did play in beta and enjoyed it very much, have played release and the updates too but..
As one poster said he starts launcher and updates but doesn't play, that's been the way for me too.
Why don't I feel the urge to start up the game ? Here lies the question.

Another twist perhaps is I am a loner in games, I do not want to be forced into co-op.
If I wan't to be a solo player let me, I do not know how many of the ED player base play solo but there must be a few.
The posters saying solo players aren't real players should perhaps let other people have their own way of playing and not hack em down
to pieces every time they talk.

As said many posters in this thread have said many good things, but I will not quote them alll.
Well what more to say, only one thing, sorry about the language, Sweden here.

/Mike

it's because i enjoy the game. every space sim you play is limited with content. ask any hardcore space sim player. this game has the potential that is worth outting the extra patience for. we know they have the money for it, and without a money hunger company like EA or SEGA at their backs, we know their going to want to impalement these thing in later. reason why i do this is because when you get grindy and overly impatient, you tend to stop playing for fun. and when they actually do implement all the cool sht, you're all bitter and cold about the game and you see the game as nothing but a grind fest even with all the cool content. it will taint you're experience and you wont ever enjoy the game. it will turn out to be a waste of your time. so yes, i imagine a better game and it works for me. it makes me appreciate what the devs have done and lets me enjoy the little things.... maybe I'm an old timer remembering that the only choices we had for space sim were EVE and X3.... and try playing X3 without an imagination... amazing game but man can it feel empty and pointless!!

Sorry but i have to ask, is XRebirth resembling more X3 RE/TC/AP now adays? Xrebirth was a 10 steps backwards from previous installations and i haven't updated but once since it was released. It seemed that core was so rotten that it would be nearly impossible task to patch for it to be a worthy X game. Answering to OP's question: I play ED occasionally but not nearly as much as i did in PB,Betas, gamma, it seemed like the development of this game started to stall around gammas.

You know what: I even agree whit you. Even so somehow yet I enjoy playing X rebirth...

X3AP is the best of the X series (my humble opinion), but we are comparing X rebirth to ED. So...

You're definitely right that it's not a space sim, but I can just use my imagination that my prison is the galaxy, and the inmates are ships..... ?

Well, if you like the thought of that have you seen Faster Than Light? That really is a space sim, in prison architect's style, with overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam... and it's £2.79 today I think?

Reviews go like this:

"FTL is like solving a Rubik's cube, it's fairly simple if you know what to do, but then the Rubik's cube starts unsolving itself, your hands turn in to stubs and your house is on fire.
10/10 would die again."

"Mantis board ship. Eat crew.
Hull breach, crew suffocate.
Fire on deck. Crew burn to death.
Ship explodes. Crew dies.
Slavers attack ship. sell crew as slaves.
Out of fuel. Crew wait patiently to die.

10/10. would kill crew again."

"Took me countless tries to get to the last sector and then finally one day I get there. After barley winning one of the most difficult fights I had ever fought in my ship was destroyed by a asteroid.

Cried myself to sleep

12/10"

A space ship sim.
Pros. Cool mods, heaps of replayablity, awesome soundtrack, hard as hell, all that and more for only $10.
Cons. Hard as hell.
10/10 would die again.

Someone said Elite was great value earlier - I would call this one great value, picked it up myself today. Looking forward to giving it a go just been busy with DIY.

I plan on using it to tide me over while I fix my powerline adapters. No solid network connection at the moment :(

This will be a waste of words and I think that no, don't bother to reply. Anyways.

To get that out of the way: Yes, the capital c content is a joke.
There are two shooting galleries where targets conveniently spawn for us, in one of those, for no reason at all.
There is a RandomNumberGenerator we can play and we can also play the same RandomNumberGenerator but with some text attached.
That's pretty much it, true.

But here it comes.

1) I had a phase where I was very negative about it but I have come to believe that Frontier knows and that they are going to do something about it.
2) , and that's the big one: over the years I've become soooo sick and tired of games in which I, the player, am merely some device to advance through
the script of some wannabe Hollywood writer. Games in which I'm railroaded from setpiece to setpiece and am thrown some combat or whatever bones in
between to keep going. Or/and where I only get to be the eyes and hands of some imbecile who I don't give a toss about. I want and I need that player agency and
be able to have choices and make decisions that have proper consequences.
In Elite, I get that. To a scale that I haven't seen in other games. "Lol", I hear you laugh, "how so?" And I will tell you. My actions and decicions
may have very little impact on the galaxy (as advertised) or none at all (as people claim. I'm sure this will change) but they have tremendous impact
on the life of CMDR Pavel Chokev (not even RP talk here). And this encompasses everything: leaving LHS 3447 on the first day, trying to reach that nebula.
Failing that, finding a new home on the fringe of inhabited space. The decision to just not trade. To not grind. The decision to sometimes not pay that fine. Instead, open
fire on the cops every now and then - and always in Empire ;) Small things like the decision to visit Sol in a Sidewinder, leaving my capable ship(s) 160LYs behind; being
somewhat stuck with a crappy Eagle now. Or even big "meta" stuff like playing only in Open in full acceptance of its ruleset.

Yes, I wish I could do more with that sort of mature freedom but finding that freedom here is enough for now to keep me from quitting.

.

i never been negative about ED, but the development has gone kinda low profile for a while. i remember being an excited fanboy while watching alpha videos on youtube ( during the time of the start of the alpha ! ). i was seeing david was really putting a game that will be awesome. yet now its feeling big empty

I have FTL, I haven't played that in awhile I should play it some more, was a fun little game.

no, it's still bad, even for a diehard X3 fan, you'd have to force the gameplay and force the fun... just stick with x3 until egosoft goes bankrupt or decides to stand back up and make a good space sim.

Hmmm... Regarding X rebirth: Difficult to answer. If you enjoy X3AP then maybe not good enough. The game was a train wreck, now it is playable. But as I said before I am a sort a guy that can play on hours and hours of spreadsheet crunching, if the game manages to fuel my imagination, and deactivate my disbelief. The sights are amazing, and the universe feels alive. But the game is much much worse than X3AP.

I am of the opinion that no game have ever managed to reach the ultimate heights of Space Rogue form C64 (it is also available on PC). It had everything really. The things that happened in the game oh I could talk about it for hours, and hours. Independence war 2 is also a brilliant game.

Waiting for 1.2 to give it a try again.

Played the heck out of it at release when I had a ton of time off over the holiday, but got burnt out quick when I realized how much little under the hood there was. All the roles in the game are pretty shallow or feel like place holders, and Trading is the only profession that even scales. I really don't think this game will live up to it's potential until the Mission system is revamped, and Factions along with the background sim that actually DOES something to create emergent gameplay. I just hope Wings and the updates soon after will give us the tools to at least make our own :-/

But until then, I've stop playing all together so I don't truly get burnt out and hate the game before there is even a game ready to play.

I play about every other day due mostly to the need to give my wrists a break and the general responsibilities of life. I still love it and would play more often if I could.

X3 TC/AP in my modest opinion is one of the most brilliant games ever. Iv spend thousands of hours to it. So, mayby i try XRebirth, mayby ill leave it be, and start X3 again instead.

No I have had it for the time being and have started an mmorpg, actually it's GW2 and like ED there is no subscription.

There all similarity ends

I have never ever seen so many players in one instance ever,, and runs as smooth as silk, albeit with reduced fps.

Still I will be back no doubt as there is too much potential but playing something else took the blinkers off of my eyes as far as ED is concerned....

There is no game.
