How many people are still playing in VR?

vr is the only way i play.
yeah odyssey is a mess in vr. its super annoying that they limit us to the flat screen in our hmd... meanwhile, while the carrier jumps i get a full panoramic view.
why not just give us the same view the whole time we are playing in vr? i wont be reaching for my motion controllers any time soon to play this game for any reason, vr included, so personally---
i would be happy with the current controller schemes anf vr IF they allowed us the full view our headsets SHOULD afford us.
if they are going to limit us to that little screen, why in tf are they not letting us at least make the graphics look better? its like looking at 720p when my hmd is 4k.... and my system can handle it.

I only play E: D in VR. Though I haven't for months primarily due to lack of time, but also because Odyssey just doesn't run well in VR (even with a 3090). I do need to take my SRV out for a spin in Horizons very soon, though. :)

Apparently the Reverb G2 is currently $250 off, directly from HP, on a "weekly deal"... No idea whether that offer ended yesterday, or includes orders placed during the weekend, but it still lists reduced...

Get them while you can, because rumor is HP may be withdrawing from the VR market...

hp is withdrawing from the vr market for a reason... all of their headsets contain an engineering flaw (??) that causes the cable to break its braids... only tech savvy people are smart enough to remove the clip from the side of the unit and re route the cable so that its not bending on a 90° angle over the space of a centimeter.... all others get warranty before their year is up. its costing them too much for that little oversight (?? i still have a lot of trouble believing that oversight slipped past every engineer on their team). i suspect their goal was to sell a pile of replacement cables since it does take a while for the damage to happen, unless in the hands of a perpetual gamer like myself.
dont get me wrong here, i love the headset and its crisp picture and have logged hundreds upon hundreds of hours in mine... but that one little flaw seems to be there by design and thats some apple level f****ery right there.... anyone buying one of their headsets should be made aware of this.

Still in VR.
Have been since the rift S days.
The G2 is alot better. Not perfect there's still "screendoor", which should be dealt with come the next crop of headsets.
Lighter and more powerful. Let's hope.
I've just had a run in in VR with a cyclops interceptor. And l did not fare well. In asterope. Gonner try again and again 🙄. Least l didn't get blown up.
5d repair limpet way too slow.
FA off in reverski with a hotas is damn near impossible.
Voice attack app for pips macros cos their also impossible lol 😆
Yet o( still got caned.
VR isn't for everyone. Till you've tried it and cannot go back

Actually, on my G2 there's no 90 deg bend as the DP connector is perpendicular to the PCB. Nor is the cable bent through a right angle on my G1. That DP connector holds a right angled plug so the cable emerges from the plug at the correct angle. Just ordered a replacement cable as, after 3.5yrs and 1000s of hours of use, easily, the G1 headset portion of the cable has just started to become a bit dicey where it connects to the main cable so I've ordered a standard right angled DP 1.4 8K extension to replace it. I see some people cut a hole in the top just to plug the main cable in and do away with the headset cable entirely. To me, replacing the cable with something using the same fitting makes much more sense and doesn't risk applying torque to the DP socket at an angle it wasn't designed for. Might need to trim the plug housing to make it fit flush with the PCB but fingers crossed.

BTW, I can't find a statement from HP stating that they're withdrawing from VR. Do you have a link or is it just the usual unqualified social media speculation in the same group as 'A highly placed source confirms Apple M1 will destroy Intel' and 'NASA scientists confirm the theoretical upper limit for Silicon based processors is 200MHz' - I will never forget that one from the beginning of the 90s.

its the little clip on the side that bends the cable, the one meant to hold it in place and keep it from getting in front of the user. its not any of the connectors or where it comes out of the headset... its that little clip that bears the weight of the (incredibly bulky, probably by necessity) cable as it drops down beside us... the clip is the same on g1 and g2. ive removed and disposed of it, almost as soon as i realized what it would do... but not before i had to limit my headset to 60hz because the cable is too damaged to handle 90hz reliably. i COULD buy another cable for what... $160cdn... and i COULD get my 90hz back but i spent $1000 on the headset and that one engineering oversight (which i believe was an actual planned breaking point for the headsets) should have been warranty work and they refused.
i have seen an article about hp saying they are getting out of the game as well, it was part of a sale article (you mention same article in your op i think). lemme see if i can find it.
ahhh heres one:
and another... mostly the same.

the one i read was part of that promo you mentioned earlier, and hard to find now. dont feel like searching cachced pages today lol.
while the headset is great, and the picture is pretty good... very crisp, but the blacks are a little washed out.... i would absolutely not recommend one to anyone. they are designed to fail and cost more money down the road, and that business practice is something i cannot support.

Ah yes that annoying little clip. Mine broke ages ago so I just draped the headset cable over where the left headphone joins. A more gentle curve so the cable doesn't bend sharply. Where it should've been all along IMO.

$160 for a cable - what? ( Is that for the G2? ) I paid £20 on Amazon for the DP extender I'm using to replace the headset part of the cable on my G1 ( which is a two part cable ). Also, the reverb only needs DP v1.3 so I bought v1.4 because I like to over-engineer it.

So the 'rumours'. The first article is click bait. UploadVR asks if they'll exit the market. Statements from both HP and Microsoft say they support VR - which contradicts the title. I could just as easily have titled it, "HP is clearing stock - are they about to release a new headset?" or "HP lowering prices in the growing VR market?". But nope... the author picks what would be most gossip worthy. "Ah but my friend's cousin spoke to the coffee shop vendor who overheard a man carrying an HP laptop say 'he thinks' HP will exit the market". By the time it gets to us; "My friend was in a meeting with Enrique Lores, who announced the end of VR". Any blog authors who think Chinese Whispers isn't a thing on the internet, needs their head examined.

And the reddit article is clearly in the same vein of 'A highly placed source' group of social media speculation. Also, just checked HP's UK website. Still £600 - no discounts. Some of them >£900 on Amazon. After brexit, UK is a dying market for everything, literally, ergo I would expect here to be the first place to clear stock for the sake of exiting.

On the other hand, if they do exit, I'm glad I've got two of the bl**dy things.

Hewlett Packard have been around since typewriters. Along with olivetti they were in the foreground of PC tech since I was a boy.
I'm 55.
I doubt releasing one of the most successful hmds of all time, would have them thinking "ah let's quit while we're ahead". But one never knows.

I've never had any problems with my G2 reverb v1. Like most I too realised that clip would destroy the cable and removed it.
Never had any issues.

Tried Odyssey in VR last night, first time for months. All the VR issues that affect me are still there (flickering lights, awful aliasing). Spent 20 minutes playing with settings, none of which made any notable improvement, and then gave up again... :(

Thankfully Horizons is still here, and that worked as expected.
