How to get the DK2 working

Hi Guys,

after I installed the new Runtime and installed my DK2 i get a weird problem.

My Oculus "split screen" will be shown twice, once for every lense... (not allowed to show you a link, pretty stupid... picture may be send by me...)

This applies to the Demo Scene and even Elite Dangerous. I cannot get it to work.
And as far as I know Elite should be run in Extended Mode (want to try DSR though).

My Setup is a 780 with newest Nvidia driver and Windows 8.1 64 Bit.

Did I miss anything the last months while I did not use the Rift?

It seems like a driver problem... it doubles the doubled image... i really cannot understand why... frustrating...

Thanks!

Dusche

Latest beta driver 347.09 breaks DK2 support in all aplications. So if you use that you need to uninstall and then reinstall 344.75 wich works fine.

Nvidia is aware of the problem and working on a fix

single player works, "full game" nope

so i can play the tutorials fine with the DK2 and the head tracking and everything but in the main game under 3D there is no oculus setting, only side by side which kinda works with major issues and zero head tracking, so my question is why in my full game why is there no "Oculus rift(headphones)" setting??????

After a couple more hours battling extended mode, I've just shelved Elite.
Direct mode or bust, I've had it with this.

Did you get the orientation correct?

When I installed it the second screen (the rift) showed up as portrait in windows. After setting it in Landscape mode it worked like a dream. This game is so great on the Oculus Rift, it's the only way to really get that sense of scale.

Running the DK2 on A AMD Phenom II X6 1090T and a GTX 660Ti

Is there a thread describing optimal settings for the OR? I know some settings, such as blur, increase judder in space-stations for me. I'm sure there are other options that do not provide a linear eye candy-to-performance ratio and it would be nice to know what those are. Thanks!

Hey, anyone else have this issue with their DK2: bottom third of the image is extremely blurry. So much so that's practically useless for anything.

Getting Oculus Rift DK2 working

Oculus have changed how the display is recognised in the latest SDK. So if you have problems running the game with OR try the following:

1 – Right click on the Oculus icon in the system tray
2 – Select ‘Rift display modes’ option
3 – Select ‘Extend desktop to the HMD’ display option
4 - Game should now run correctly.

Okay, so I've done this and the game starts up and I get dual pictures (side by side) on the monitor but nothing in the VR headset.:S Have I missed some other setting somewhere?

Of course it is blurry, the optimal eye placement is in the centre of the lenses. Just get into the habit of moving your head instead of your eyes.

I heard a rumour this will be improved in CV1 as the shape of the lenses have changed apparently.

Anyone know what the optimal settings in VRChanger are for the OR?

What is this upsampling and downsampling I see and which should you choose (if any)?

It basically renders your games at a higher resolution say 2560 x 1440 and then compresses that image to 1920 x 1080 which results in a sharper image. You can do it if you have a Nvidia card and AMD cards do the same thing but their implementation does not work with VR yet. Unless you have a high end setup I would not recommend it though as it is very demanding on your FPS for example in the rift with a gtx 980 overclocked to 1430 MHz at a resolution of 2351 x 1323 my FPS drops between 60-75 depending on where I am. If I go any higher on the resolution its unplayable for me.
To enable it just go to Nvidia control panel then go to Manage 3D Settings and where it says DSR factors just check all the boxes apply settings and you are done. Now in all of your games when you go to resolution you will have more options above the normal resolution that you DK2 or monitor could normally display.

Have anyone done some subjective testing whether it looks better with a sort of medium detail level and supersampling than not supersampling and having it on high in the Rift?

I sort of think supersampling should look best.

I sort of think supersampling should look best.

I did, a while back. Subjective being kept in mind, what I wrote was -

Okay, experimented more last night and here are my (highly subjective no doubt) findings...

Scenes - Inside Jameson Memorial hangar, on the launch pad of said station, outside in the middle of the station under the rotating bits looking back, further out from the station looking back at a 45 degree rear angle.

Settings - 3840x2160, quality slider set to minimum. 1920x1080, quality slider set to maximum. 2560x1440, quality slider set halfway. Blur and AA off, everything else set to max.

All the above gave me a "stable" 75 fps in all scenarios except the degree of stuttering (despite the card not being maxed out) was greater with the higher DSR resolutions.

So my personal views on the above is that the DSR settings gave less sparkle, particularly in the rear 45 degree view and inside the station... basically distant objects are "better" because they don't twinkle so much. The 1080p setting with max quality was sharper, but more sparkly... quite a lot more so in the scenes I just mentioned. The "compromise" setting was just that - something in between. Memory use on higher resolutions was much greater, perhaps contributing to the stutter where fps drops 1 - 3 for no apparent reason. Whatever sort of resolution reduction voodoo the quality slider uses it doesn't seem to be so memory intensive and results in less stutter (and less quality IMHO).

Although the sparkliness of 1080p/max quality is annoying I've settled on that for now as the stuttering is markedly less and it's way more irritating than anything else.

I also played with AA but couldn't really discern much difference although I left it on in the end so maybe my subconscious picked up on it! ;) It didn't impact frame rates.

My current 980 OC settings are no change voltage, 115% power, +225 core, +450 memory.

Hi I've followed the detailed instrustions on how to get elite working. I've set DK2 as another monitor with the correct resolution and 75hz refresh rate. but when I go into the game and select all theings the guide told me too it only displays on the screen and not in the rift. the two spliut screens appear on my monitor and as i turn the rift around IO can see it reacting and working on the screen. When at last I got it to display in the rift the 3d effect wasn't working and all I had was two grainy pictures moving with my head. Considering this is supposed to be coded to work it's not been done well at all. (yes I knwo the rift is in development stage but still...) getting very fed up of it not working... any advice or help very welcome!!

Please help !

My DK2 ran just fine in extended mode throughout the Betas and Gamma but (just updated to current release version 1.07) now when I start it, I get superimposed images. When I go to graphics options and set to secondary, I get the options screen in one eye, and the general menu screen in the other. It doesn't work at all in Direct mode. Any ideas please ?

Forget it guys, just figured it out. Stupid mistake... hadn't chosen Oculus 3D experimental...

Sounds like your rift is not secondary. In options graphics in the game menu are you on primary and that is the only choice?
