How to get the DK2 working

News as of yesterday I have been playing in oculus for some time using 0.6 software and windows 10 experience was fun but there was a constant creep on the display position so I had to constantly re centre plus the tracker was not functioning so full 360 viewing was god but could not stand or lean in to view text and left right panels. I logged on yesterday to find the white light on the tracker lit after further investigation it just works, don't know why or when this started but I can lean in stand up look behind the image is clearer and there is no creep of display position on my DK2. My only guess is that there must have been an update from Microsoft or frontier that I was not aware off. To be clear I changed nothing in settings it just works.

I never had problems with position display creeping, but can tell you that sometimes wierd problems go away just by re-booting PC few times.

Just want to add for any DK2 users on Windows 10, if you search on /r/Oculus, you'll find a Runtime Switcher that'll switch you between .5 and the latest runtime. I was able to get E:D running in VR finally after installing it!

I just cannot get this to work for me. Everything is OK outside of ED - the demo scene works and its in extended mode (Windows 10, used the runtime switcher), but in Elite Dangerous I get a "dual/double screen" effect - one presentation to each eye. I've got the AMD 7970 and the latest AMD drivers.

Can't find any solution to this.

Edit: Well it was quite simple in the end. For some reason the resolution selected was wrong. Changed it to 1920x1200 (or whatever it is) and now it works sweetly.2

I have runtime 0.8 installed and got ED working using Virtual Desktop.
Don't need to start Steam VR and don't need to switch the runtime if I use Virtual Desktop.

My Monitor can only 60Hz. Because of that it's a judder fest if I start Elite Dangerous from Virtual Desktop.
But I can use Virtual Desktop and turn the Monitor off. Works great using Virtual Desktop and the game detects the HMD if it was starting this way.

1. Start Virtual Desktop, after that turn the monitor off if it don't support 75Hz.
2. Start Elite Dangerous using Virtual Desktop, now you don't have judder and game was loaded on the Rift with 75Hz. If you want you can turn the monitor on again after game was loaded.

Using Virtual Desktop it seems that it don't need Steam VR. I start it without Steam VR and it works.
If you go to the Nvidea settings after point 1 you will see that it shows now the Rift resolution with 75Hz and not the monitor.
After the game is loaded you can turn the monitor on again. The game will be judder free with 75Hz until you exit the game.
It only needs to be started with Virtual Desktop running, if monitor don't support 75Hz turn it off before you start the game.

Does not work, at least with Windows 10 and AMD hardware.

As soon as you turn off the monitor, Virtual desktop dies a painful death, crashes and burns. Also if you uninstal SteamVR you will find out that Virtual desktop will not get ED going in VR mode - It needs the SteamVR wrapper as this is what ED looks for to enable VR.

Hm.....strange.
On my system Virtual Desktop is still running after truning the monitor off.
It only switches the resolution on the Rift, I can see that because the Icon positions changes in Virtual Desktop after turning the monitor off.
Also if I go to Nvidea settings I can see that the monitor disapears and have a new one with dk2 resolution and 75Hz.

I use Virtual Desktop only because my monitor don't support 75Hz and the custom resolution also don't work for me.
If I now start ED using Virtual Desktop it starts in 75Hz on the Rift (if it was already set to HMD in 3D settings in ED).
If I turn the monitor on again after the game is started and running on the Rift I have a Window on the monitor an others can watch me playing.
It's great. And yes, Steam VR is installed and seems to run in the background.

Edit:
Tried a little bit more and it seems it is enough to turn the monitor off before the game client starts.

1. Start ED Launcher
2. Turn monitor off
3. Press "Enter" to start the game and wait few seconds. It starts now on the Rift with 75Hz (Steam VR is installed)
4. Turn on the monitor again and play, works great. No more Virtual Desktop.

Bad that my monitor don't suport 75Hz.
But with this trick it works good for now.
Hope this works also for others with 60Hz monitor.

Elite has been working fine for the longest time and now with horizons and 0.8 update, the screen is just side by side and will not respond to head tracking nor does the image show up in the rift. Anybody else having trouble? I tried updating graphics drivers, multiple versions of oculus sdk (including the advertised 0.5) as well as completely reinstalling everything from the os up... is no one else having this problem? (DK2 was working for at least 6 months and then stopped when horizons update hit) the only thing I haven't tried is installing Steam. I keep seeing the word steamvr in forums, but have not found anything from Frontier saying it is needed or not needed or included automatically or not included automatically. Thank you. Not being able to play elite sucks.

This would be getting quite comical... if I weren't wasting my time. So upon trying oculus 8, it says i need win7 sp1 update... when i get that it says i already have it... dead end. The answer to how do you get DK2 working? You don't.

Why are you messing with 0.8 when 0.5 is the recommended one?

Horizons with 0.6 oculus gtx 970 win7/64b everything works fine. I do not use steamvr but bought horizons direct from frontier.
