About the OP>
I am intrigued why someone would be so concerned about another player not playing in open, or indeed playing another game – not elite, to the extent that they suggest such players should be penalised for doing so. Fascinating.
I really appreciate the work BGS focused PvE groups do, and respect peoples desire to enjoy the game with out being forced to be content for others, but there should be incentives to play in Open. It's the first option in the list and I imagine FDev wanted it used. But currently the risk v reward across the board is pretty low, it's true of missions when comparing average PAX with elite level assassination missions for example, and it is true of the 3 modes..
Would you feel it was wrong then for players who risked more by playing in Open to receive a larger reward, would you consider that a nerfing of solo/private group only players?
I think the undermining mechanic suffers a lot from being just as profitable in Solo, as Open. The weeks I undermine in Open (for my own pleasure) I actively see it harm my power, who are far better off if I just farm merits in solo, or in a wing in private and then drop a merit bomb on a Thursday morning.
You don't even get any merits for killing wanted/enemy pledged CMDRs.
It does seem crazy for this to be the case. If the game is meant to be Single player first and foremost, why is it the third option down?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying get rid of other modes, and I love that we all contribute to this universe while playing the game the way we want. I just think balance is FDevs weak spot, and (imo) risk v reward in Open is second on that list, after Engineers negating any weakness a ship was designed to have.
