How to navigate on a planet with the SRV

I've reached a point where I have to ask... why are we even still discussing this?
Elite does not use the Unit Circle model for navigation.
It uses the magnetic navigation standard.
Can you use different models? Sure, but the designers picked one and stuck with it.
So the answer to the topic question is going to remain the same, no matter how many different circular models we name off.
0º magnetic north, 90º magnetic east, 180º magnetic south, 270º magnetic west. That's what we have, that's what we use.

(It is probably geographical north, east, south and west, since not all planets have magnetic fields to navigate by, some may have more than one dominant dipole, and some may not have the dipole roughly coinciding with the axis of rotation - and the latter may be a confused mess if the planet is tumbling with wildly *erm* eccentric precession....

I'll get my coat.
