Travel through the forests and valleys of one of the most biodiverse areas of the world, North America!

On your hike you might stumble across a couple of the adorable Snowshoe Hares as they traverse the forest floor scavenging for food, or look up there! It's the striking American Black Bear sleeping in a tree. Keep travelling through the dense forest until you'll find an iconic ungulate of the north, the majestic Wapiti rubbing its antlers against tree bark! Finally, we've came out of the forests onto the prairie lands, oh and look its a herd of formidable Musk Ox as they progress along the slopes and scrublands of the prairie! Oh wow and look below us, its the spectacular Northern Leopard Frog, our exhibit animal for this pack!

Alongside these amazing animals you will also be welcomed with a new set of over 200 new Native American scenery pieces! Decorate your zoos with intricately carved Totem poles, large historical tipis as well as a new wall and roof set themed after wooden native american style houses! And your foliage won't be left out either, explore North America with a whole plethera of new shrubs like Myrica Gale and Bush Honeysuckle, or grow even larger with new trees like the Spruce Tree or the Red Pine!

The Planet Zoo: Boreal Pack will be available for purchase on the 9 of April for Ā£7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€) on Steam. This will be out alongside Free Update 1.17 which is available for all players. Please remember that you'll only be able to enjoy the Planet Zoo: Boreal Pack if you already own the base game of Planet Zoo.

Thoughts?
Hmm... I like it, but it's too much "North America 2 pack" for my liking.

I feel like the Wapiti would be pretty unique in appearance to anything we have in game.
View attachment 378551
Not to mention unique sound... Elk make that crazy "bugling" call everyone recognizes.

The Wapiti being switched for a duck was something I considered and almost did, but idk I just think the elk is more likely.

On the point about it being fully NA I purposely made it like that because the last 3 packs have focused on one continent at a time, the 2 most recent being named synonyms of their first pack based on that region (Oceania following Australia, Eurasia following Europe and SEA) North America doesn’t really have anything that catchy, it could be CanadĆ” Pack but that feels too specific, then there’s the idea of doing an Americas Animal Pack which I’m not a fan of because SA is deserving of its own pack (foreshadowing my next pack prediction).
Honestly I think you could do an Americas pack, but the theme would have to be something like the Wild West. You could sneak a lot of animals that extend from North America into South America into a pack like that. You could even sneak in some really nice Mexican theming.

So far I have been loving the packs! Though I would have to agree with some others, I think I would’ve replace the elk with a duck. Nothing against the Elk, but NA has two excellent deer species that fill the ā€œNA exotic deerā€ being the moose and reindeer. I think the white tailed deer would fill a different niche, and might have more viability. Personally I’m not dying for the wtd but I can see its uses. It’s like the ABB, the more small and less ā€œexoticā€ version.

Thoughts Everyone?

Is this Central America or Latin America? Five of those animals--the South American coati, Patagonian mara, guanaco, rhea, and emerald tree boa--only live in South America proper.

Definetly feels like a roster frontier would do and id be very happy about the monkey, coati and mara. But im gonna be honest having the next 2 precious bird slots being spend on rhea and flamingo is the worst possible outcome for me :D
Was tempted to switch flamingo to ibis but it just doesn't seem like a frontier move, especially considering they like to improve base game animals recently.

I’m of the opposite opinion I desperately want an American Flamingo, it’s just so much more colorful than the Greater Flamingo. And it’s a much more common bird here in the states. I think the only flamingo species I have seen are the American, Lesser, and Chiliean flamingos.

Honestly this would be one of my favorite packs ever. I migh change the emerald tree boa to the basilisk lizard though. We already have a South America snake in the yellow anaconda, so I think the Jesus Christ lizard would be cooler IMO. But seriously:
  1. 2 birds so already peak
  2. One rodent
  3. One monkey
  4. One reptile
Already more diverse than most Frontier packs

I like that roster. Of course i want howler more than spider monkey but i'm fine with them. A way for Frontier to improve on the flamingo would indeed be turn it into the Scarlet ibis 🤣

But seriously. In that context i wouldn't be too upset to get the flamingo, specially if we get the rhea, mara, coati and ocelot. Like those four right there are my most wanted from SA.

And now because I still have lots of ideas left and Oakwood Zoo isn't loading so I need a hobby lol, I'm gonna give a few alternates to the next 2 packs, but these first 2 are what I think is gonna be next, but keep an eye out for some more pack ideas soon!

An alternate to the summer pack and since the idea of an endangered pack is floating around right now..

šŸŒ Planet Zoo: Environmental Animal Pack arriving 18 June

Hayo Zookeepers,

Its time to go green and learn about how impactful animals are on the environment! We always appreciate animals for their beauty, but we should focus more on the impacts of how animals affect and shape the environment from all across the world. With that being said, we are proud to introduce the Planet Zoo: Environmental Animal Pack arriving on 18 June alongside free update 1.18! 🌺

NOT OFFICIAL!.jpeg

Explore the world and how much animals actually do for the environment with 8 amazing species!

Starting off with a pretty special place, the Ethiopian Highlands, the only African country that has never been colonized and singling out an animal that is important for maintaining certain animal populations of these highlands, the beautiful Ethiopian Wolf. Alongside California's central coastline, learn about the guardian of the kelp forests, the Sea Otter. Heading over to an amazing conservational leader of the animal kingdom, learn about the PĆØre David's Deer and its miraculous comeback from being extinct in the wild or take a journey all the way over to the continent of Australia to find its keystone species, the incredible Australian Sea Lion whose role in maintaining a variety of animal populations is no easy task.

I suppose now you'll want to return to Africa to find the bright and bold Secretary Bird, a bird symbolized of majesty and controls larger populations of the African grasslands. While we are still here in Africa it might be a good idea to check out a pair of Spider Tortoises, a species that is sadly currently endangered.

Lastly we head over to the most diverse ecosystem on the planet, the Amazon rainforest where we might be able to find the keystone species here, the adorable Agouti, a tiny but very meaningful animal of the forest, spreading seeds around the forest floor that will keep the forest growing. Finally, we had to address a very known animal that is the symbol itself for biologically diverse conservation, the striking Golden Lion Tamarin, a keystone species to the Atlantic Coastal forest, a very special forest located in Brazil that supports over 60% of its wildlife and provides clean resources.

Alongside everything in the Environmental Animal Pack, we've also got some extra additions for you to enjoy in Free Update 1.18!

Wind Turbines

Power your zoos more efficiently with a new power grid system that you can hook up to new proper Wind Turbines that will help generate power in bigger ranges than the generators depending on the wind level of the weather. Of course these won't make too much of a difference if you have "Power Everything" on in sandbox settings (if you are playing in sandbox) but if you want to play without that on these will make a huge difference in your power generation in sandbox or franchise!

Water State Customizability

With this update we are also adding the option to make your bodies of water different states, meaning you will have the ability to make bodes of water frozen or steaming hot! When water is set all the way to the coldest option (meaning it being frozen solid) a few smaller cold climate animals will be able to walk on the ice safely like shown below. When water is set in the warmer state where steam starts to rise, players will be able to use this as an alternative to the hot water taps to make hot springs.

Mascots

As a fun little feature we are adding a new type of staff member, mascots! Mascots won't play a huge part in zoo management, their more important role is to make sure your guests have fun while in your zoos! Placing a decent amount of mascots around your zoos will instantly increase the happiness of your guests!

Free Update 1.18 will also come with various fixes alongside all of this content, which will be included in the Update Notes upon release on 18 June.

The Planet Zoo: Environmental Animal Pack will be available to purchase for Ā£7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€) on Steam from 18 June. If you want to be notified when the game is available, then head on over to Steam and wishlist it now! Please remember that you'll only be able to enjoy the Planet Zoo: Environmental Animal Pack if you already own the base game of Planet Zoo.

We look forward to sharing more about all these amazing species with you! Tell us what you're more excited for below! šŸ’š
