HTC Vive resolution and  focus

For info: the Vive has this too (but the call it reprojection).

Kind of. Whilst they are fundamentally both the same kind of thing, ATW, as an implementation, is better at dealing with unexpected glitches on the fly - that's where the "asynchronous" bit comes in.

The OpenVR Reprojection, as it currently stands, rather expects to consistently get to fill in every second frame, and does not "kick in" seamlessly.

This is getting ridiculous.

I understand the frustrations as I recently got my vive and it's showing was sub par. I also understand the silence too. As a network engineer when there's a problem I often times don't speak to my users until the problem is solved. Bad service? Of course it is but personally I get caught up in the moment trying to fix everything. I remember when AMD cards had big issues with FPS while in SC. I too struggled with that and FD was seemingly almost unknowing judging from their silence. It turned out to be completely an AMD issue that was resolved by AMD. Maybe this is an HTC issue that maybe we need to press HTC on.

This reddit post by John Carmack, concerning recent changes to Oculus' "GearVR Home" store, raises a couple of issues that may well be relevant to our situation.

The last point, in particular, puts a spotlight on how, which-in-hindsight-should-have-been-obvious, the same contrast issues Vive users experience with Elite graphics overall, affects the appearence of text/GUI elements as well, in exactly the same way; If the effective relative output intensity of "antialiased" pixels are off, from their rendered values, of course they'll look kind of squiggely. :7 (Note, however, that filtering issues with textures, and lack of antialiasing on polygon edges, are two separate matters.)

If the Elite/Vive fix that was hinted to: A) being worked on, and B) being rather a complicated job, maybe due to uprooting fundamental systems; ...turns out to involve matching colourspace and dynamic range, and perhaps even making use of any "excess" in those areas, I'll be one happy camper. :9

Every day I check and still not one update. This is really bad service on Frontier's part. What is the point of community managers if they never post to a forum on a key, known, issue? Not good enough.

Exactly! I don't expect developers to write every day while they're working, but at least the community manager should update us every once in a while. IGNORING CUSTOMERS IS BAD POLICY.

Calm down, children. The last update from Frontier was nine days ago. That seems reasonably recent to me. How frequently do they need to say "we're working on it" to satisfy you?

We generally post about updates and such here on the forums, especially when we have solid news to share on the progress of something.

But yes, a fix is being worked on - but it takes time to get right and stable. :)

Hi all,

Sorry as this is probably mentioned somewhere but as Oculus continues with their abysmal delivery rates and my local comp store had Vive at shelf, i decided to give Vive a try with Elite.

I have read and heard some problems with Vive and Elite, but what specifically?
Does my 1000 euros go down the drain if i play Elite with Vive?
I probably will buy Oculus also, but while waiting, i could have some fun with Vive.

That is, if it is fun.. Is it? :D

I still keep saying "Everything is so big" when I play with the Vive. The cockpit of my Cobra is bigger than the room I play in, I know this because I got up and walked around the room; then struggled to find my chair again. lol. Also the drop in frames on my system has slowed down since a new driver update from AMD for the graphics cards and two firmware updates from HTC vive.

I purchased the Vive for 2 games and to do some vr developing with my 2 boys. Those 2 games are Elite Dangerous and DCS world. Over at the DCS forums someone found a setting within steam VR that might do something for Elite Dangerous. Please do not get upset if it does not work as I have not tested this yet. Go to the following post over at DCS to see what they are doing. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=169141 This change is global so every game that uses steam vr will be affected so be aware of that.

I have tried Elite with DK2 a while ago and i just read somewhere that Vive has the resolution equal to DK2..
That cant be true, can it?
If thats the case, ill wait gladly for that Oculus.

Unfortunately, no change to Elite. It probably overrides external settings where VR is concerned, the same as doing a render multiplier in the nVidia driver console (DSR) , nothing.

Actually it works. Check that code for errors. I had extra " symbol there, that messed the whole code. Tried with 2.5 setting. Extra sharp text and UI but framerate was about 2-5. Maybe lowering that setting a bit and tweaking ED graphic options would be nice boost while we wait more permanent solution from frontier.

Yes. I can confirm that it works as well. I added the line but forgot to add a comma to the end of the line above it. Once that was in place I could see a dramatic and I mean a dramatic difference. I even switched my gui colors back to default. Even though I am running 2 gtx 980ti cards (SLI off) I can only go as high as 1.5 without dropping below 90 fps. I also moved the SS inside Elite back down to 1.0 and played around with VR High. This one change has really enhanced the experience.

Ok I'll try this again, heck I know if I can get it to work smoothly in Elite, everything else should run without issue so I could probably leave the higher setting there.
