HTC Vive resolution and  focus

It's only one guy opinion, meybe he changed IPD accidently , nothing really changed in beta 5 , they promise UI scale in change log but my guess is that DEVs do not implemented it yet! I'm really confused , no one can find this option in graphics settings...

I'm not sure that's that a publicly available option. I think it just means that there is an internal variable for changing position of the UI panels (they're definitely further away in beta 5). They may make a slider option or allow a config option for it in future, but it isn't in yet.

Their bugfix notes are terrible.

Yeah, that they've said in the notes "default is set to..." implies it is an adjustable parameter. After finding nothing in-game, I did check the .xml files for an option but couldn't see anything.

I expect it's just gonna be... if not specified in xml use 0.7.

Well really they're just commit messages written by devs for devs.

For what it is worth, it feels like the Beta5 is somewhat faster, especially with the audio fix.
I have an i7-2600K, 8GB, R9-390 (AMD 16.5.2 drivers) and in stations and on planets the framerate would drop to 30 FPS from time to time.
With the new beta5, I have not seen FPS drop below 45 FPS. And only when at a planet-side base or in a station. Otherwise it runs at 90 FPS. So in that way, the 2.1 beta seems a big improvement.

Comparing Beta 5 to 2.0, there is a HUGE difference in quality. BUT, as a new Vive owner, I have to ask...

Anyone else feel like the stars and galaxy are closer than they should be? I don't know if Oculus has this issue, but the depth just feels.... off? Don't get me wrong, it feels amazing, but there are little oddities that my brain has trouble grasping.

Yes, a lot of people have mentioned that. Can't say that I've noticed it, but my machine is currently so underpowered, I tend to put most stuff like that down to my very low graphic settings.

Aye, and that has not been improved in beta 5.

Yup, get the same feeling, as if I'm flying around the inside of a giant sphere with a painting on the inside.
This might either be because the skybox isn't rendered as if it is at infinity (so both eyes should see exactly the same image), or it might be because it is beautifully AA-ed, while the 'real' objects have a far higher contrast and stick out more because they are rendered at a much lower setting (VR Low here).

I did a small test in 2D with every thing set to the lowest setting and at that point, the difference between the skybox and everything else is also pretty noticable.

Looking forward to Beta 6 then Sticks. :D

Seriously, take a look at the number of changes done in just over a week. These guys and gals rock.

Yeah, the performance optimisations already in Beta are simply amazing - I would never have expected to be able to play on Ultra in VR on my humble OCed 970.

I was agreeing with you that the stars in the background still feel as if they're way too close.

Oh I gotcha. Yeah, hopefully FDev is aware of the issue. After digging around, it seems that there are really only a handful of users who notice this (including a video that made mention of it by UKRifter). It's quite bizarre.

But in Beta 6 the UI definitely is much more smoothed so that it completely eliminates any visible pixeltoggling. Instead it is blurry. Don't know what is better of the two. Or I am experiencing a bug or something. Will examine more.

Last night, after downloading the Beta 6, I turned off my custom settings and applied the vanilla "VR High" before booting the game. On the hangar pad, I saw an immediate improvement in several areas like less pixelation in the distance, but "flashing jaggies" were obvious. I turned on SMAA and that helped, but I'd love to see higher levels of SMAA to smooth things even more. I then went through and turned on the various settings for motion blur and the rest to medium then high, one at a time as I went back to the screen looking to see how it looked.

Last, I took the Vive from 1.0 SS to 1.5 SS and there was only a very slight choppiness when moving the HMD rapidly. If you were not looking for it, you wouldn't see it. Otherwise, it was excellent. 2.0 SS was unusable due to bad strobing with the slightest of HMD movements. I went back to 1.5 SS. I noted the GPU temps at each stage and the highest I went was 72C. By bringing my settings from high back to medium I was able to reduce that down to 64-65C.

Text was much better, but I do have a slightly modified color scheme on my HUD. I'll reset that to standard tonight. Overall though, a decent set of fixes for the text problems.

If those tall handsome FDevs can throw in higher levels of SMAA at some point, I'm good to go. :D

Well you have a lower resolution than is ideal, so you either get aliasing artifacts, or image softness. You can't have both perfect clarity and no aliasing - unless you go to a higher resolution.
