Hunting with Chiggy....

Looking for a new cube to mine for ELWs, I was trolling along on ECO plot, had a few hits, nothing really standing out. I was just finishing crossing a cube, and got 3 hits in my last 4 jumps which got my Chiggy senses tingling. Soooo, I reversed course and criss-crossed it a few times, and it became quite apparent that I had stumbled on possibly my best cube ever!

I consider a hit rate of around 1 in 70 to be the galactic average (filtering out all but A and F main star systems) 1 in 50 I consider quite good and definitely worth the trouble....this one is 1 in 28.8 (30 ELWs found out of 864 systems searched (around 10% of the total in the cube) I'll post more as the search continues! * happy dance *

Cool, that's near the very top then. Congrats on your find! So, what are the boxel's helium levels like?

3088 searched, 110 found, revised hit rate of 1 in 28.07. The cube only has 9500 or so systems, and as I am excluding G and K systems from the search, I should have just passed the 1/3 completion mark. I'm reasonably confident there are another 200 or so ELWs remaining. A few things I have noticed though, I would say at least 95% of the systems in the cube have WWs....waaaaaay more than "normal"...also very few systems with GGs...and very few with just a single star with no planets at all...not sure if it means anything, but it was enough out of the "norm" to where I noticed damn near immediately....

Those are signs of a low-helium boxel, yeah. You didn't reply to my earlier question about the helium levels of the boxel, but I guess you might have me blocked. Still, it's good to know that you are excluding any stars outside of A and F, because it's interesting that even that way, that "sub-boxel" search hasn't produced a higher rate so far than more complete boxel surveys have. That's not what I would have expected.

I just exhausted a d-mass boxel (was doing a full boxel survey, so ELWs were a side product) with a hit rate of 1 in 30.
Didn't exclude any star classes, but the boxel wasn't very dense (15 ELWs in 450 systems).

Interesting indeed, any suggestions about the best way to scan cubes, or just set it to eco and not visited and criss cross the cube?

That works, although not perfectly, but there is something better: EDJP has features built specifically for this. To elaborate, once you've set the boxel survey up, it'll automatically put the next system in your clipboard (so that you can just paste it in the galaxy map), and can also be set to skip ones that are on EDSM or if you've already visited them before.
