I feel I'm completely excluded from material and data gathering in Odyssey šŸ™

Still unclear as to why the OP wants to gather materials, unless it is just something to do. It is also unclear as to what other game activities he wants to participate in.
There is a very good reason to upgrade suits... night vision, extra battery capacity, extra backpack capacity, and all the other upgrades that are extremely useful for exploration and salvage (as and when that comes). This is the point I made and, no offence, but I think you highlighted it perfectly. People seem to completely forget all the other things you can do in Elite :(
Their 2nd post explained.

Type without much thought, suffer the consequences. Oh well. I feel pretty incoherent after a hard day at work and need to relax firing off bursts of plasma at animated pixels rather than posting rubbish.

Silly question but is there not a person you can wing with? An also possibly allow them to do the shooting for you? As I feel fighting NPC or Scavs is very basic. Most of the time they are less than your skill level from what I have seen. Ground combat is very basic. Still fun though! I was a competitive player for a very very long time. If you need help with your missions i would be happy to tag along and keep you safe if you need it. Feel free to let me know when & where and I shall escort you CMDR

I have a good selection of suits (and weapons) now in Odyssey. I caveat the weapons because, while I looked for them when I was buying suits, I just can't stand combat in games...

I haven't got the reflexes for it, I find that it causes me genuine anxiety, and it's just not my bag.

This is why I feel I'm completely excluded from material and data gathering in Odyssey (so far). In the rest of the game there's not a single material or data type that cannot be gathered completely safely, or traded for, with no possibility of combat. I'll caveat this as everything you need to upgrade your ships and that doesn't involve Thargoid or Guardian sites, but even much of that is perfectly safe to gather.

Even the safest methods of gathering materials and data in Odyssey still have a risk of combat, or an element of combat. For someone who, like I said, gets genuine anxiety from combat in games this isn't good. I feel there's FAR too great an emphasis placed on the FPS element of Odyssey and the rest of us are being completely forgotten. So much for the "play it your way" approach.

I'm wondering how many more of you feel the same way, as I seriously hope this gets fixed at some point.
Hey Travers if you're still in Colonia (you've been in Colonia, right?), send me a PM with what you need, I'm close on finishing
all my stuphs and will propably have some leftover stuphs I won't give to @Bottom Hat for obvious reasons.

I hope it wasn't my post brought that on? I was trying to be helpful.
Consequences well deserved by me. You were right to call me out on what I posted. I should have worded things better.

It is difficult to know what more support and advice can be offered to the OP. Some potential ways around the problem have been identified, but there are other problems.

If he wants the materials to get night vision, getting past Terra Velasquez is potentially a bigger problem than aversion to combat. I found that more stressful than combat, even without any shooting. The most viable way to get night vision is therefore to buy a suit with it already installed.

Bottom line, I think that it is the gameplay loops that cause him feel excluded, but activities can still be done. I cannot face going through the guardian site loops and so cannot get that magical FSD booster. I accept that and do not feel excluded.

When I get back into the bubble (a few days), I'd be glad to go out to one of the module sites and lend a hand, if you wish.

Once you figure out a settlement layout the thefts/heists are easy. I won't murder so I had to cancel a few and back out after I learned the layout/situation. Learning that was part of the fun for me. Apparently the OP won't even consider leaving a reactivation site if it has scavs to find one without so šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I just check the shops and buy the night vision, Iā€™m grade 3 for suits and weapons and donā€™t feel the need to do any engineering as I already feel overpowered.

Yep, imo strictly for exploration, an Artemis with NightVision is more than enough.
Everything else is not really worth the effort of unlocking or grinding

Even without Night Vision, it's fine.

Your SRV has Night Vision if you really need it, and if you're doing exobiology you're going to be in the SRV anyway because it has not only Night Vision but a Composite Scanner (helps locate and scan plants) and it can recharge your suit.

I went without Night Vision on my suit for quite a while, and had no problems. It's a slight QOL upgrade, for dark planets, nothing more.

I'd say it was a problem of people denying that you can get everything without combat. :p

You can actually get a lot without combat. Reactivation missions (the ones resulted from Infrastructure failure) provide rich loot opportunities since they have no fires, no bodies and most of the lockers are intact and lootable and, not at last very rarely have scavs ( which can be dealt with "peacefully" )

Since the last update you don't even get surprise scav dropins, they just all turn up at the start. Once you've cleared them you can spend your sweet time exploring a base.
Sorry - but that isn't true - suprise scav drops after you have started the mission still happen. I have been surprised on several occassions mid 'exploration' after completing the mission.
