I have found Jaques Station!

I think you hit the nail on the head with passenger missions, unfortunately that's now made me a little suspicious about this discovery [cool]

Well Micheal brookes said today in another thread about miners and srv type activities out there, that what happens next depends on what players do with jacques and the surrounding area, so i think they will look at what player do out there collectively and that may determine what happens with jacques, so we should get out there and make sure they push the background sim towards doing something.

Sounds good, but it makes sense that the formerly missing high profile experimental station would become a tourist attraction, and this thread pretty much demonstrates it with players ready to undergo the long journey just out of curiosity.

Now *THIS* is exploration. +rep (of course)

This is APPLIED exploration which we hope the devs maintain momentum behind, which might improve sales and player retention

the nearby nebula should be a high priority for ground based exploration as well, and donation missions at jacques as soon as they become available should also be a high priority

Player activity will depend on how engaged players remain, something Fdev can contribute to by being quick with CGs and the like

as micheal brookes has said today, what players do and how much they do around jacques will determine what happens with him, so if we want new colonies etc, interact with the npcs and trade, mining in space and planet side actitivies are highly recommended and we need to spread the word

Where does "determines what happens to him" imply new colonies?

All it implies is that we can choose to maroon him ...or fix him so he can travel again.

I'm coming with some Meta Alloys. But also guns. Wonder if FDev would let us destroy a station?

Because the system is in an expansion state? This means with actual effort from commanders nearby systems could be colonised; normally it's minor factions taking over nearby systems, but what's to say a few bases can't appear?

Developer is giving the community a chance to drive some outcomes. Sounds like a good opportunity to me.

I agree there are many implications, new planetary ports are easier for Fdev to add currenlty, so that would be my direction, the stellar force engine with inspace stations is harder for them it requires a patch to insert new stations. But it is still possible for them to add new stuff

IUt might require Fdev to put a little bit more dev time into stellar forge changes, and background simulation enhancements, but with so many commanders going out now and the popularity, if they disappoint by not taking some steps at least in this direction, they might find future sales suffer. Its a key opportunity for good press for the game after recent bad press, to step up and push the envelope on long promised but not delivered game mechanics to attract, retain and keep players

In return the players will organise and deliver the activities to justify the dev attention

Jaques is only in expansion because the CG put his faction in this state during the fuel CG. He was completely outside the BGS before that, as there were no other factions or a bulletin board. I think Jaques' state is a Dev oversight and won't come to anything. I also hope I'm wrong about this, a colony that didtant would be awesome.

Not entirely true, there is a famine state pending and with more commanders arriving now and a mission and trade board, the background sim is working as intended, and with a expansion attempt there should be some outcome even an expansion of repaired station services

+ rep OP, but of course! Amazing work mate!

I was headed out to the core regardless, so screw Peter Pan, second star to the Left and straight on 'till morning!

.... or you know, whenever.

That's like finding a needle in a haystack. Not impossible, but time consuming. You made that look far too easy for a game with billions of stars OP. ;) :D

Jaques is an engineer, correct?

He'd have to be if he is able modify station drives, or repair himself.

I hope that the BGS works well. It would be great to see a new colony start this way.

Frontier are many things, but they had to update the BGS to insert the station, so the system state (boom, bust, etc) would need to have been defined. There is some premeditation here regardless. It appears there is an increasing number of commanders heading to Jacques, and frontier haven't just plonked the wayward fool pretty much on the opposite side of the galaxy to intended path for shiggles.

It's not an arbitrary location. It's on the fringes of a nebula, within a dense star field. If I wanted to shake things up by potentially triggering human expansion, that might then butt up against another race? Would I do that near the bubble, or somewhere sneaky? Just a thought.

Does anyone know if there is a planet with a pristine metallic ring in the system? There was one in Gliese 1269, though it had no light so was extremely difficult to mine in.
.
Two more questions for anyone who has made it to Jaques new location:
1. Does Jaques Station have reload facilities?
2. Is Jaques the only faction?

1. No reload or repair currently
2. Jacques or the DD and insert string of letters and numbers faction that is there is the only faction

Mission board, Docking and commodities ar the only facilities available, so using existing mechanics we need to deliver meta alloys to repair him. Once the number threshold is reached other facitilities will operate and a nearby nebula is almost 100% certain to contain barnacles and meta alloys

It's only a matter of time before the swarm of CMDRs enroute arrive and spread out to hunt, it's game on if they find barnacles; never mind meta alloys that are certain to be carried by many.
